This will hopefully STOP the Defense from attempting to 'delay the trial by seeking this ruling', just before the trial date set in March. Smith is going for the 'Knock Out' in the early rounds.👍🎉🎉

I think we ain't seen nothin' yet. I think he's going to use success in this trial as a basis or practice run for going after harder to prove charges against Trump, e.g., insurrection, as well as charges levied against members of Congress. As individuals see and feel increasing legal peril, they will be more helpful in convicting other parties. I just hope we can win a blue congress. Otherwise, game over, and the real evil (Congress and party monkeys) goes free.

I don't have a lot of confidence in the Supreme Court and I see our justice system as too weak and timid to hold Trump accountable. I hope I'm wrong because the price we'll all pay will be immeasurable. A lot is riding on the integrity of questionable individuals.

WalkawayRene12, I think it's prudent to give the case for immunity to SCOTUS, and let them ponder it (just not endlessly, though!!) and render an opinion that is fair to him, and to the American People.

I suspect that the Supreme Court, because they will want to secure their position as the most important court, will not judge that Trump has immunity. To judge that he has immunity would mean that Trump could do whatever he wanted, including disband the Supreme Court, if he became president again (or what some other Trump-like president could do). I doubt they'd want that to happen. As Judge Chutkan said, Presidents are not Kings!
The only reason I think they might decide against immunity is because it would put the position of the President above the Supreme Court and they might not want to give up their power.
Presidents are not kings. The President is an elected servant of the People. Defendant Trump must be held to the rule of law.

@@wendymontie5660 Shockingly, they’ve ALREADY responded to Jack Smith’s request! Trump’s lawyers have been given a Dec. 20th deadline to respond w their own filing. The lawyers for both sides will have to argue whether or not the SCOTUS should fast track the process, but it’s a really good sign that they’ve responded so quickly (basically, I think they get it)!

Excellent, preempt trump's delay on all cases his tactic based on immunity. Once adjudicated by the SCOTUS, any attempt by trump to use it is moot and automatically dismissed.

With a majority of originalists on the court and presidential immunity not mentioned in the Constitution despite enumerating certain immunities for congress it would seem to favor Jack Smith’s petition.

The Supreme Court rarely takes cases that don’t go through the trial and appeals process first.

Mr. Litman, I heard about this about an hour ago and I immediately wondered what your thoughts were and found you to be as energized as I was. I agree that this is a smart move for Smith to cut out the middleman and all the delay that would cause. ...and, it seems to me, this step, alone, emphasizes speed and the Robert's Court would be hard pressed to malinger hoping it would die in the bottom drawer out of sight! ...but, I don't necessarily feel good about it because this is a craven Court. We all know it. If they see a path being forged that would hurt their power, I have no doubt they would bulldoze it.! Also, what should absolutely happen is that Clarence Thomas must be forced to recuse himself based on the shenanigans of his treasonous wife. There should be pressure applied to make sure that happens. Of course, the Chief Judge, who had no problem with refusing a summons from Congress apparently has no qualms about flipping his nose at anyone who questions the almighty dirty Court.
