    Very nice work. It's nice to hear someone happy with Eco Flow instead of bashing their products. I have learned new tips from your videos. Thank you for doing these.

    Great videos! I just wanted to ask, can you use Super Sheen instead of Tan-Kote before the antiquing? Thanks.

    • @cheaneysaddles
      @cheaneysaddles  8 років тому +3

      +pearlheartgtr Yes, you can I have tried it and it does resist the only thing and problem which was major is the Super Sheen is not flexible if you bend the item such as a belt or guitar strap it will surface crack badly...For flat items it is perfect and works great. Thanks for watching and your comment. Bruce

    Bruce,
    Do you have any videos on Antiquing from start to finish.? I am having a really hard time getting my coloring to look nice. Also, do you always use Sheep's wool as an applicator as opposed to a damp sponge or dauber.? And last, do you always line your belts, collars etc.?

    Hi Bruce, just a quick question. Do you use Neatsfoot oil before using the first sealer? I never noticed you mentioning it. Thanks!

  • @robertsully9351
    @robertsully9351 9 років тому

    Hi Bruce i've noticed some of your saddles appear to be oiled only. What is the finish (if any) you would use on such items that will be cleaned and oiled regulary. Some of your other saddles appear to have a browner colour is this achieved through dyeing, more oil, sun?

    Can you wash and re-use the sheepskin pads Bruce

    • @cheaneysaddles
      @cheaneysaddles  3 роки тому

      I don't think it will work because the wool looses it's body and is flat after it gets wet. Good question!

    Hi, when use antique on a handbag the antique finish can be use in the others parts of the item without the tooling to match the color? Or only in the tooling and regular dye in the others?

    • @cheaneysaddles
      @cheaneysaddles  3 роки тому

      Yes you can antique finish smooth leather as well just be sure to put Fiebings Tan-Kote as a sealer.

    Hi there, Mr. Cheaney. I'm hoping you can help me. I know the products used in this video are not exactly what I'm going to ask about but you mentioned Fiebings products, so here goes. I've asked my saddle maker to use Fiebings acrylic Antique stain for a special effect on my saddle. The results are exactly what I wanted but a problem has come up with being able to seal it properly. It seems anything I put on it reactivates the water based stain. I got to where I can spray on Leather Sheen (several coats) but if I come back and wipe it with a damp paper towel, it pulls off the stain. Any suggestions?

      +Betsy Freeman I would suggest getting in touch with Sheridan Leather Outfitters...I think they may be able to help you. www.sheridanleather.com/

    Hi Bruce,
    What if I'll paint the whole thing in Spanish brown color, apply a tan-kote, then fiebings antique dark brown, and finally again fiebings tan kote, what do you think? Do I have at the beginning soak the oil?
    Thanks
    Jozef

  • @TheChuckler12
    @TheChuckler12 10 років тому

    The reason I and is that some people say to do a proper antique you need to oil the leather.

    Hi
    Tan Kote is not water tesistant , but i need for antique, what are you think if I put resolene on tan kote?

    • @cheaneysaddles
      @cheaneysaddles  8 років тому

      +szymon bujara Resolene should do the job for you it is a good protective finish made by Fiebing's.

    Have you ever painted a surface in a bright color and then applied an antiquing gel?
    The reason I am asking is, I see people that have a good tooling on things like rodeo style belts, and then they paint the tooling in a bright color, like blue, yellow or pink for exp. All the hard work instantly looks cheap plastic knock off, and the bright colors over power all the detail making it even worse. Is it possible to use this to remedy the issue?
    If so, what is the process of applications and what is your opinion on the matter?

      Ok, that was the answers I was hoping for, really appreciate the advice and procedure explanation. Thanks for your time, I'll give it a go
