    My 2017-DIY-newbie fell in LOVE with my first tweak on your forest face lotion, my very first facial lotion ever! I did write my formulation down, but on a friggin piece of paper, thinking that I will rewrite it on a better looking journal soon after. I ended up losing the paper (argh!) and it frustrates me until now because I can never get that same sensation again however hard I try to recall the experience when tweaking that formula. So please just stick to one dedicated notebook/journal/any book, it doesn't have to be a fancy one. Just make sure all the writings stay in one place. *sigh

    Hi Marie.. your videos are really informative.. thank you. Since I don’t use each raw material everyday, I draw a coloured dot on each ingredient to immediately identify the it’s solubility: blue for water soluble, orange for oil soluble and green for cool down phase ingredients etc. this definitely saves me a lot of time.

    I got beakers and a cheap hotplate added to my collection. I love this so much as I live with other people and now I can do so much more in my own space than in communal spaces. The hot plate is slow to heat since I cheaped out alot but it works none the less :)

    I remember I had to throw away something in a sachet and a huge bottle of something I didn't remember what it was. The taking notes part...oh I've learned. This is a beautiful video, very helpful ❤

    Start slow and perfect each item before you start/buy for another and write it allllll down, you won’t remember later, be specific about items, amounts, results and time along with process and ingredients.

    I wish I have known how easy lotion making is. I would have made it ten years ago when I began. I swear newbies it is easy! Not only take notes but by all means, take down notes for a product that you have ordered. I purchased an ingredient and never knew what I ordered it for.

    Another amazing video! Thank you. I am learning so much from you and I also have been on your blog a lot. Thank you for all the information you give and for how easy it is to find things on your blog too!
    Next is to learn to use a spreadsheet properly, as I do think if I want to start changing recipes and learning more I will need to learn to do this!

    Okay, I have a new product category for you, something I just discovered today when I let my barber shave my head for the first time (wow, was that scary, wondering if I was going to look in the mirror and see my father looking back at me! LOL). Afterward he put a product on my scalp, of all things, a "head polish" called "Sweet Comb Chicago Bee Bald Head Polish", which sadly isn't available in Spain (where I live). Inspired by you, I'm going to try and make my own. Their website describes the product thusly:
    "Made in small batches, it contains a generous portion of beeswax which provides a shine and
    protective barrier locking in moisture and soothing sensitive skin.
    We’ve added sunflower oil, hemp oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, vitamin E, aloe vera,
    and essential oils to assist in cleaning pores, nourishing, softening, and moisturizing the skin for a healthy, shiny dome!"
    Have you ever heard of such a thing, Marie?! It looked AMAZING when applied (it certainly helped me through the initial shock of looking in the mirror), and I'm determined to find a DIY substitute (and one that is non-comdogenic). Any thoughts you can share would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your wonderful recipes!

      Thanks for the suggestion! It does sound mostly like a solid body balm or even lip balm. Check out my wax ratio experiments on the blog (search "beeswax liquid oil" @ www.humblebeeandme.com/search) for some good starting points. Happy making!

    This was very helpful. How do you get the percentages is you’re dealing with different units of measurement such as ounces, milliliters and pounds? I guess converting everything to the same unit of measurement would be a good starting point.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  4 роки тому +1

      You really can't-that would be like trying to create a budget using 5 different currencies. Working in percentages by weight is formulation standard, and I can't recommend it enough :) I'm all about the metric system, but you can use imperial if you prefer. Happy making!
