What a sound! I had a '59 XLCH, changed out the cams, pistons different carb lowered the frame but kept shocks and something else I put four screws in the back wheel to keep the tire in place. Looks like a screw on this XLCH around 2:11 it's hard to describe how fast and the sound when clearing it out. Nothing faster in the '60's! Well not until the 500 ring-ding but a rolling start and within the power band it was on.
Excellently made video . I felt like I could touch and smell the bike . I've got an 04 XL 1200 Roadster and I can see where a lot of the styling queues come from . Lovely.
I bought one just like it, except it’s all original bone stock with only 12k miles on it. No extra chrome, it’s just the way it left the factory in 1968. It was stored indoors for 34 years before I found it. It’s a real jewel!
I bought this motorcycle in 1968 new. Was a wonderful bike while I had it. Nice to see it wasn't destroyed or chopped up and remained stock as I had left it. Going to be a fun ride for the new owner. Rob
Sorry Rob. The bike was bought new in Richmond VA in 68. I bought it from the original owner with the original title. It is viewable occasionally on internet pics in Japan. The current owner did not change it either.
Thanks. I am working on a original 71 xlch with an engine built by Bobby Ho, (Cal Rayborn's engine builder for all his race bikes.) Will be ready early next year. Dave
Very nice, in the middle of restoring my 65 XLCH right now and then restoring the 68. Also trying to decide if i should pull the 76 motor out of my hardtail and drop in the kick only 72 with a big bore kit.
Sweet looking 68, my dad had one with duel carbs, said it ran good he had a 63 before that and said the 63 would run the ass off the 68 all were XLCH's !!
This one had the bags, rack for the bags, and the turtle tank. I sold them all with the bike. I have a 1971 XLCH that will be ready this spring. Thanks. Dave
Unfortunately I could not keep it. After the restoration it was sold to a company in Japan. I have since restored and sold a 66 BSA and sold. I build and restore bikes as a hobby and can not keep them all. This was my favorite restore so far. Thanks, Dave
Thank you; I have a 71 XLCH in works. The engine and tranny were rebuilt by Bobby Ho; Cal Rayburn's engine builder and tuner all through the 60's. He was considered Harley's secret weapon on the KR engines. I'm going to restore the cosmetics and leave the rest of the bike untouched. I am keeping the original tins and paint untouched as extra parts. Will probably be ready in 2021.
Very nice ride! I have the exact same bike. It's my second '68 CH. I bought my first one brand new in San Diego in '68 and wasn't smart enough to keep it! My second one is in restoration phase right now. I hope to have it looking just like yours. Thanks for sharing it with us! Is it possible to get some pictures?
Nice to see an era correct original. Beautiful paint and accessories . Good that you left everything like its supposed to be, these bikes are icons and set the standard for "the look" for harley davidson. You can forget just how bitchin these bikes were when they were new, brings back some old memories, thanks for the video and good luck with the bike, don't sell it.
+eppersod1 I have a 73 black XLCH with cams a mikuini 40 millimeter carb and head work it runs well, that is by far one of the nicest 68 sporty I have laid my eyes on!!
hello, how much did you sold it??, beautifull machine, I have a 2006 sportster, but this is a beauty, more than the new harley's.....congratulations, good example of beauty...
Not. I went through whole engine. You heard normal valve noise from the early sportster engines. I built and rebuilt Harley’s, triumphs and BSAs since late sixties.
I can understand having to sell but, I can't understand having to sell to someone overseas. Couldn't find anyone to buy it in the country ? Now everyone is paying for this . Everyone is finally running starting to see. Just like all the pans and shovels everyone has been selling to the Japanese and Chinese. Oh they pay more. So what, is that what's important. That's what matters most ?

I'm looking for one. I originally had a 66 I bought new when I was 20 yrs. old. Any ideas where to find an original like this?

At first I laughed when it had to be primed twice and needed adjustments just to keep it running. AND THEN I noticed the snow. Nice work.
The Icon of Harley Davidson",longest model in motorcycle history".saved H.D.

It is a beauty. Great color choice for a Sportster.
I had a 67 xlh it was blue same seat but mine had white fiberglass sporty saddle bags and a windshield! Wish I still had it!!!
This one had the bags, rack for the bags, and the turtle tank. I sold them all with the bike. I have a 1971 XLCH that will be ready this spring. Thanks. Dave

This old 900s sound great. . . "Along Came Bronson."

@rbjsch
In the 60's they had a 4 digit number. This bike is sold. I have an original 1966 BSA Lightning ready for a new owner now. Thanks.
Dave
A stunning machine.

I loved the part where she said to the gathering."..............
@CourtneyxCourtney95
6ft. 280lb, The early sportsters feel like small bikes to me. they are actually lighter than the new ones.
music to my ears

I want one just like it!!! Or that one would do!!! Awesome 68, real nice job!!!
+Dennis Elliott
Thanks, I built it to sell but should have kept it.
Dave
+eppersod1 common mistake. look at it as an excuse to restore another classic.
+Ryan Dunbar
Just bought a 71 XLCH, be ready in a year and a half. Currently working on a 67 FLH and a 76 FLH. Original bikes, barn finds.
Dave
nothing like a kick start bike thats the balls,,, alot better than a blown out starter clutch on the newer EVO sportsters
You too ? I've just had to change out the Starter Clutch on my 04 XL 1200 Roadster at 20,000 miles .
Nice Sporty!
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thanks, Working on a 1971 XLCH, Will be orange also. Ready in a year,
Dave
+eppersod1 I have a 73 black XLCH with cams a mikuini 40 millimeter carb and head work it runs well, that is by far one of the nicest 68 sporty I have laid my eyes on!!
BEAUTIFUL 3RD KICK START
it was first kick
@@nickl9542 That is correct. after 2 prime kicks.
hello, how much did you sold it??, beautifull machine, I have a 2006 sportster, but this is a beauty, more than the new harley's.....congratulations, good example of beauty...
Now, That’s how you kick over a Sportster! Made it look easy!
@Paul Healy
@Paul Healey. I agree. So many do it the hard unnatural way by standing to the side.
cool bike you did a good job thank you for the video.
Is the bike still for sale? I'm just joking from the future. Lovely bike. I'm almost finished restoring a '69 'CH. Wish me luck. Thanks for the video.
damn beautiful bike ya have there sir
The very best part is where she winked.... ya think............
My 68 xlch has both electric start and kick was that a normal option for them in 68
All XLCH were kick only, XLH were electric start.
Nice
Nice, thank you
Primary chain raising h tension adjuster worn out bad sounds like she's grinding gravel beautiful bike though
Not. I went through whole engine. You heard normal valve noise from the early sportster engines. I built and rebuilt Harley’s, triumphs and BSAs since late sixties.
Looks like a Japanese Harley Davidson, that brat style seat. Looks nice though!

If that is "all original" that's a $30,000 bike.
Nice
