About the trail at 6:40, it's open because it's open. The openness makes it cooler and the lack of trees and brush makes it wetter than the dense spruce on the sides which leads to earlier and more severe frosts which young spruce are very, very sensitive to. To have it grow in you'd had to leave it until the grasses and brush first grows in and then the spruce can get established and start to grow very slowly.
Add to that the fact that herbivores in the area use the trail as well and eat the saplings. Then you add their trampling and fertilizing of the area and you end up with the perfect condition to create a grassland. If you fence the area up against grazers, you will see trees appear soon enough.

Perhaps that "highway" you rode in on is a wet area? Maybe what might be another river or creek if there were more water? In any case it looks like it's too wet and /or the PH changes for that swath so that no trees grow. Don't know. Just a guess.

Im not sure exactly where you rode. But it looks like a pipeline corridor to me. The question about why is there a random clearing through the woods where trees won't grow in. It could be a under ground river. We have underground lakes over here and they look like that, there is alot of grass and skeg but no trees. Basically just grass and top soil floating above the lake, no trees until you get to the outskirts

That looks like a great time! Congratulations to your brothers!
I see you are using the Russian bear tent, watch out for the zippers. I have 2 of them, different models. My smaller one has been up an running for a year and a half. Going on it’s 2nd winter, on my place in Casper, the colors do fade, when exposed for a long time, the tent will turn red…
The trail must have to do with water, it beeing to wet to grow anything else than grass?
Do y’all measure temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius there?

Didn’t see how you packed the meat out? The two were hanging on the cross beam…. Didn’t see them quartered or loaded in the Rig? Wow what a machine! Have you ever got stuck back in the boonies?
We boned both of them and packed all the meat in totes. We loaded them in first as they were so heavy! Lol. Thanks
And we have been stopped a few times but never stranded yet lol
