I listened to this the day I walked out of prison, 4th Nov 2004, after years of drugs and over 60 convictions, 8 years in jail. Today I've been drug free for 23 years and jail free for 20 years this year , now working with guys in jail through the church and Alpha course to save those that like me were helpless..

Exactly. How could anyone put a thumbs down on this performance. It's Paul Freakin' Weller! But even besides that, it's a great song, and a great performance. Who can't feel the meaning in the song, I know he does. For whatever reason you are looking for a brand new start: from drugs, drinking, divorce, loss, environmental issues....it resonates. I tear up everytime I hear this performance. It re-energizes me, and reminds me to try to be the best I can be. Maybe that sounds corny, but I would think everyone should be able to get something out of the song and this performance in particular. I can loop it and play it over and over again.

He makes music for people who appreciate good lyrics and great melodies and the global superstar thing is not really what he is about. having seen documentaries where he comments on his music, he says that he makes the songs primarily for himself and if other people like them, that is a bonus! Yes, he is a God in the UK !

It's not Corny & TRUST ME... you're not alone in that feeling.
Words fail when I try to describe the impact, the raw fuel this song has been in my life in these past years. I'm in the threshold of something amazing, after nearly hitting rock bottom a couple of years ago.
I'm clean, happy, detached of material goods, 8 years later but i finished college, have great relationships with family and friends and I'm about to get (Hopefully I make the cut) a really good job.

@@michaelreddington1234 Such a blast from the past.
My brother, words fail me to describe how fortunate I've been.
Got two boys, a third child on the way.
Years in a job that, while my mentors are a decade younger than me, pays well, is in high demand & I don't hate.
Married to a good woman; she's difficult at times, but she does love me.
It astounds me to see how I felt I "knew how the world works" 10 years ago, how I was so close to "slipping away" some 16-17 years ago.
Thanks for the kind words. I really, wholeheartedly hope you're also leading a great life.

This man played his heart out and we sang and shouted our hearts out too. The security didn't know what to make of us all.
