I listened to this the day I walked out of prison, 4th Nov 2004, after years of drugs and over 60 convictions, 8 years in jail. Today I've been drug free for 23 years and jail free for 20 years this year , now working with guys in jail through the church and Alpha course to save those that like me were helpless..
12 Years sober today, this song means a lot to me and the many many peops out there that are trying, a day at a time. It is never too late, to make a brand new start. x
nearly a year since i lost my dad to cancer, the biggest jam/style council & weller fan you could wish to meet. we had town called malice play at the start of his service, this song however has always stuck with me since me and dad were very close listening to his back catalogue since i was old enough - especially the live version. i hope im doing you proud dad. i miss you every single day, i love you.
Played at my mother's funeral nearly 10 years ago now....she loved this song and aways taught me to love the simple things in life, find your own path and don't worry about what others think ❤
real music, real singing and playing, no ass-shaking, voice modulation bullshit! this kind of music will always prevail over the drivel of today's standards!
This is the song that got me through both my mental health and addiction issues all those years ago. Makes me cry every time,. Not only because of how far I've come, but because how hard it is. Stay strong its never to late.. 👍
My dad has always said to me about how great Paul Weller is and I never took any notice. He was right and now I'm going to learn this and play it for him and see his reaction
Depression has been a consent in my life. When I feel low and looking to come out of the darkness - mental, weight issues, interpersonal relationship issues - I listen to this song and envision a new start in my life. Helps me to map out a better path to be on. Such a beautiful song. Thank you Modfather
My dad is a heroin addict clean for 22 years and relapsed aged 52 this song makes me think of him in his best days addiction is form of evil we can’t control no matter how much love you give
Exactly. How could anyone put a thumbs down on this performance. It's Paul Freakin' Weller! But even besides that, it's a great song, and a great performance. Who can't feel the meaning in the song, I know he does. For whatever reason you are looking for a brand new start: from drugs, drinking, divorce, loss, environmental issues....it resonates. I tear up everytime I hear this performance. It re-energizes me, and reminds me to try to be the best I can be. Maybe that sounds corny, but I would think everyone should be able to get something out of the song and this performance in particular. I can loop it and play it over and over again.
8 year relationship, engagement, family home, pet dog. Came home to a locked door an clothes outside, no explanation no sorry, to never see my fiance for over 2 years. Found out later the dog which was a bday present given away. This song was the light in the darkest time, made me a better person and the man I am today.

This song has helped me through some dark and difficult times in my life and if nothing, it gave me resolute hope! You can pick yourself up and you can start afresh, never give up! :) Paul Weller is a fucking legend and the stripped down performance of this song reiterates that! He is after all, the Changing man! Long may he continue! :)
He makes music for people who appreciate good lyrics and great melodies and the global superstar thing is not really what he is about. having seen documentaries where he comments on his music, he says that he makes the songs primarily for himself and if other people like them, that is a bonus! Yes, he is a God in the UK !
It's not Corny & TRUST ME... you're not alone in that feeling. Words fail when I try to describe the impact, the raw fuel this song has been in my life in these past years. I'm in the threshold of something amazing, after nearly hitting rock bottom a couple of years ago. I'm clean, happy, detached of material goods, 8 years later but i finished college, have great relationships with family and friends and I'm about to get (Hopefully I make the cut) a really good job. I know it's never too late
