Hot Tent Winter Camping in SNOW | Buschraft Build

- Like many of my other adventures, this one does NOT go according to plan. But it's all about what you make of it. I love winter camping, especially in the snow. I've never tried a hot tent and I've had this idea for along time.
Hope you enjoy!

Control your attitude! Single most important piece of advice ever!
Thanks William! Nice to see ya bud!
Love watching your camping adventures every week. This is truly bushcraft camping ,things happen, this is what makes your channel real.
Thanks Tony! I appreciate that buddy
Great night of adjusting to whatever, like you say that’s what camping is all about.👍👍
I really like it when you can admit it when you make a mistake and you do not know everything!! But you are willing to learn!! So hats off to you and take another Nip off the old yellow banana.
Thank you!
Control your attitude when things go wrong. Love it
Thanks man! I do my best
the plastic office chair mats make good sleds the top is smooth so make it the bottom, the bottom has little spikes to grip the carpet that keep things from shifting ... I guess it would be difficult to find stones to prop the stove on with all that snow but logs would have worked, even if the scorched a little they wouldnt likely burst into flame.. enjoyed the show!
Thanks Doc! That’s an interesting idea. About the sled. I also thought about propping it up on logs, wasn’t sure about that one. I think we’re out of snow for the year, but you never can tell. Hopefully next year I’ll have a proper utility sled
Good one Sam!
Summer is for tourists, and Winter is for pro's
Haha right?! Thanks bud!
Lol the fact you don't die in these videos is amazing.
Well, that was an exciting adventure! ⛺🏔😲
Just cuz things are challenging, like using a rusty old wood stove for the 1st time, doesn't mean the trip is a failure, it's just a learning moment.
RIP your lovely down jacket waaaahhhhh 😭❤
Haha thanks! I was surprised how well the stove held up
Awesome as always Sam.
You made it, didn't get to cook your food but all was good, you didn't starve to death.
KEEP ADVENTURING
GOD BLESS YOU
Haha yep! I made it through the night at least
Old sam is bananas I couldn't imagine hiking in with a pot belly stove on my back 😁 you're cool brother I like you admit when shtuff goes south and are modest when you pull off greatness. Keep rocking it.
Thanks man! I do really try to keep it real
Another great video. Someday, I would love to see Steve Wallis, Corporals Corner (Shawn Kelly) and yourself make a stealth camping video together. That would be epic.
Thanks Charles! One can only hope!
True "Die Hard" my friend. You scared the hell out of me when you started to scoot along side the stove to get your camera. Stay safe and WARM!
Haha I was really trying to avoid burning it again! Thanks so much for the kind words I appreciate it bud
Great video Sam. You educated me once again. Thank you.
Aww thanks man! Things don’t always go perfectly but hopefully you can learn from my mistakes.
@@CampingwithSamBananas and having the natural talent to rig things always helps.
You make my night watching your videos Sam. Can’t wait to see another.
Hi Mack! Got another up right now, go check it out my friend.
Oh no the jacket! I know how expensive those are, that sucks! Still looked like a somewhat cozy little chill zone at least
Dude! It did suck but it was a good camp overall. That’s what I get for wearing my nice jacket camping lol
I give you a 10 out of a 10 brother you adapted and you overcame that's called survival. And I tell you one about one of my overnighters payed $400 for a Gore-Tex coat first night camping with it my dog chewed the arm out of it while I was cutting wood what are you going to do LOL. Great video brother glad to see you stuck it out 💯👍💪🤝
Haha dude that sucks about the coat! You’re right it just goes that way sometimes. That’s so much for the support bud it means a lot
Loose the dog 😂
Sam your the man ! I’m loving your videos… If it works great… if it doesn’t crack open another beer and worry about it tomorrow!!! 🤣 Keep the videos coming Brother I’ll be watching !
Haha thanks Mark! That’s my philosophy too
Sam, I've said this before but of all the great UA-cam adventurers (this includes you) you are my most relatable one. Things never seem to go how I picture them in my head. It is the not quitting that shows who we are.
Aww shucks that’s a hell of a compliment. I appreciate that bud. Means a lot.
Good to see ya back and you've got another one in the books and you made it all work 👍👍
Thanks Harold!
Good job on sticking it out. Never stop learning. Great video Sam. I would have come out with ya for sure.
Thanks man! I hope we can get together some day, it’s just so far. Beautiful where you are though. Good luck on the jail camp!
Well I just seen you was going to put a video up I guess I'm a day behind. But I'm here brother let's get into it 👍
Nope you’re right on time! Just went up
As always, a very enjoyable video. You made the most of your situation. Looking forward to the next one!
Appreciate it Steve!
Sams blunders. New channel name!
Another great video Sam!
Thanks Don!
The worst day of camping is better than the best day of work. No banana flask! Stay thirsty my friend.
Haha very true bud!
Perseverance man, you did good.
Thank you! It wouldn’t be a Sam Bananas video if everything went right lol
Great camp Sam, love the perseverance. It occurred to me that you might have been able to boil your kettle on the coals inside the stove with the door open. I’ve seen other hot tent campers do that with larger stoves. Keep up the good work!
Hey that’s an idea! I’ll keep that in mind for next time. That never crossed my mind. Thanks bud!
Hello...
Good morning👍👍👍
Hi bud!!
Great videos cheers from Canada!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Make a sled, one 2"x4"x10' framing cut in half(5'), 1/2 sheet luan, screws, and rope. Make one to last? Then use plastic sheet & exterior screws. :) Cool vid as allways.
Thanks Robert! I may try that one next year. It looks like we might be passed the snow for this winter
You know...I feel a lot better about my camping trips....LOL
Wouldn’t be a Sam Bananas trip if a thing or 8 didn’t go wrong 🤣
Trial and error creates knowledge. Good vid bro.
Thank you!!!
@@CampingwithSamBananas I just watched this vid again and I still enjoy it .
Yeeaaaahhhh buddy love seeing a new video up!
Thanks bud!
Beautiful walking tour wonderful and beautiful my friend greetings good luck I wish you good hearths and your family guys
Thank you!
I like to spend the day watching all your videos. I subscribed the very first video. I knew that it was a class UA-camr and I’ve been hooked ever since. I also watch small plots with Kevin he’s very funny. You’re very good and I enjoy watching your videos, I think that I’ve seen all your videos now even those that are a year or so ago. Keep up the great content and I look forward to seeing more of you soon my friend. John from Sheffield in England Great Britain
John that's much appreciated and thank you for watching Kevin's videos as well! Got lots more coming my friend.
You packed that stove in !! Your the man 👍 - good vids sir - I do small vids (music / farm/hike) and it's a lotta work (for me) so Im thinking you do a ton of work to share your cool camping adventures and your content is great ...BIG THANKS 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much bud! I appreciate you watching. Cheers 🍺🍌
Wouldn’t be camping with Sam Bananas if everything went according to plan lol. Way to adapt brother 😁🍻
Haha ain’t it the truth!
Great camp bro, I hated you couldn’t get your water boiling I know you gotta do the best you can, but hot chocolate is No meal! Keep it up man, loved the vid.
Thanks bud! Haha hot chocolate is definitely not a meal. I had something better on the stealther I just finished. Out next week!
Can’t wait man!
Great video Sam! Just love your energy and content!
Thank you!!!
Love the real camping Sam!!! Glad to see you out again...hope you are feeling better now!!! Thanks again!!!
Feeling so much better now, thank you. I appreciate you watching and I’m already working the next one!
Ahh the old classic stove. I have one of those exact models in my backyard. It’s good to see it in real action.
Maybe you can turn that jacket into a vest. Lemons into lemonade!
Another glorious mission. I love it
Dude! I never thought of that! That’s really not a bad idea. I saved the coat just in case so I’ll have to think about that. Thanks for watching!
This looks like it was fun! Even when you improvise! Cheers!
Thanks man! Glad you liked it and thank you for the donation you'll be getting a shout out in the next video.
Always informative and entertaining. This is one of my favorite channels. I urge everyone to support Sam on Patreon. You will love the bloopers he shares with patrons.
Thanks Joe!
I remember this! It was negative something! By the way, Happy Birthday Son!
Love you Mom!
@@CampingwithSamBananas love you too son
That was a rough night lol. Improv camping is funny when it’s someone else haha
Haha dude tell me about it! It was an experience that’s for sure
Respect ;D These crackles are cracks caused by internal tensions inside the crystal - most often caused by temperature (ice contracts / expands with increasing / decreasing temperature). The best and loudest sounds are the sounds of large gaps forming.
Very interesting! Thanks bud and cheers 🍺🍌
Awesome video I love ❤️
Thanks Paul!
Glad your feeling better, I missed seeing ya. I'm in the process of making one of those wood stoves out of a propane tank. I've seen a couple on Pinecrest. Won't be nice and light lol but it should keep me plenty warm. I will post a pic in comments when I finish it.
Thanks for another fun adventure.
Dwayne
Thanks so much Dwayne! Good luck on your stove 👍
@@CampingwithSamBananas if ya want I will send you a pic when I get it done
Congratulations man. It must be hard to stay in the cold. the stove is beautiful :)
Thank you! Yeah it was seriously super freezing that night. That was my coldest night ever I think, but the stove made it a lot more comfortable.
Nice! No banana, bad omen, but all turned out. Think I would’ve heated up the bacon bits and cheese in pan just to get some grub in my tummy.
Not a bad idea actually
Awesome video Sam. It sure looked cold. Looking forward to your next camping adventure. 😊
Thanks Karen!
Awesome video
Thanks Chris!
Great video. As they say. Of you can't fix Duct it. Sorry to not see the 🍌 flask. Stay safe. I like the old school camp stove and to see that it still held up was awesome. Stay buddy.
Thanks bud! Already shot the next one and banana flask is back!
Always carry thin wire , tie off on the chimney to counter balance !
It's actually a really good idea
Man I really enjoyed your trip. Making memories in the woods bud, aint much better than that!
Thanks man! It’s peak living haha
..cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…
Thank you!
@@CampingwithSamBananas Thank you very mutch... have a nice day.... see you….
See what happens when u forget the banana flask 😂 great video
Haha I know right!
One thing that never crossed my mind while camping, once you consume alcohol, you're committed. Me and a buddy one time were using his tent, it poured rain. Tent got soaked and we were both past the point of driving. Had to pack everything up and get a 60$ Uber to pay for a 85$ hotel just to get back to the car in the morning. Never really considered the worst case scenario of drinking and camping before that experience
Dude exactly! It’s not something I often think to far into either. I am usually pot committed once I set up but I hadn’t cracked a beer yet in this case
Jens Williamson, III (Deaf)
I am happy when you forget about the banana flask. I am proud of you.
Alcohol and Camping do not mix.
We know that. You will know. Okay!
Thanks for your time. Have a great day!

Maybe Sam hide his banana flask in camping. Lol 😂
I am not dumb.
Great learning video.
A couple suggestions to consider…. Stake down and seal the bottom edges of your tarp to stop wind flow, as well as closing off the end. It looked like a wind tunnel at one point!
A small side fire would have boiled your water easily, and given you a very important hot meal before you turned in. An already burning log from the stove placed on a prepped pile of sticks, boom, boiling water.
Good tip! I was thinking to make a fire of to the side but I was so tired by that point. However I didn’t think about taking a log from the stove that’s a great idea. Next time!
How are you still alive? Love how you keep moving along and following your nose. All the best to you Sam and stay safe, healthy and stealthy. From your Canadian friend Up North.
Thanks so much bud! Haha I try to make the best of it
Hello sam วี ดี โอของคุณยอดเยี่ยมเสมอ แซม👍👍
Hi 👋
I was wondering when you would find the grates lol..hey I found the other leg. Also, there is a water reservoir that goes on there too. Didn't put it in bag to lighten the load lol..
Good improvise!
Nice! I’ll have to use that other leg next winter. I think we’re probably set on snow this year I bet
@@CampingwithSamBananas I sure hope so
Get a iron on patch for the jacket. See on with sewing machine. Or hand stitch. 👍
It’s just that material is fragile. I ended up getting a replacement jacket
I ment to say sew on the sewing machine.
You can’t beat Sheffield steel John from Sheffield in England Great Britain
I missed this one somehow! Not how? I like snow camps as well. We haven't had much snow in the last few years, maybe this year.
Fingers crossed! Now that I'm full time, I'm going to be doing some traveling further north to create videos.
I'm trying to spread the work. I'll be mentioning you in future videos from time to time, hoping that will get a little bit more traffic your way. Stay safe! ok?@@CampingwithSamBananas
I am so glad that i stumbled across your vids bro!!! Been watching you for about three months now.Great vids, and keep up with the asskicken!!!!
Dude that means a lot, I really appreciate that. It’s kind of hard getting these out regularly with a full time job but I’m committed to getting three out this month!
@@CampingwithSamBananas .Badass!!!
🤘🍺🍌
Hey Sam, I put together a makeshift ice fishing sled. I took my plastic concrete mixing tub, that looks kinda like a sled, poked holes in the front, and tied a drag rope on it. By the way I never made it ice fishing because I got sick. Hope your feeling better.
Hey Mark that’s too bad! It’s warming up here. Hopefully you have a chance to go still or if not maybe next winter
Oh, that was years ago. I will be going to a State release, Rainbow Trout fishing, outing at our Forest Preserve, lake. Coming up soon.
Sometimes you scare me. But I’m sure you know what you are doing 🤪
🤣🤣Honestly sometimes I really don’t know what I’m doing but that’s part of the fun lol
To keep that stove under the tent tarp, just put rocks down under it.4 is fine.. need a stove jack in the tarp too
It’s a great idea, unfortunately there were none around and I couldn’t dig for them because the ground was frozen. I think I just need a better setup to be honest.
Great video very good 👍l am from lraq
Right on brother, thanks for the support!
Awesome video Sam! Way to roll with the punches! I love your knot work, I’m always impressed by the variety you know! Any good resources that could teach me (who knows nothing about knots) some essential ones to know for camping?
Hey thanks Jason! I pretty much only use Canadian Jam knot (also called Arbor Knot), Taut-Line hitch and a Prusik knot. You can just search those if you want. NC Grayman has a LOT of crazy tarp setups if you check his channel. Good luck!
Just a thought? Maybe you could have boiled the water in the kettle then poured it in the pan to cook the food? Even enjoy these vids when it doesn't all work out. Thanks
That's actually not a bad idea. Maybe next time. Thanks for watching!
Take the back metal leg on the side with one metal leg off. Put it up front and the wooden substitue leg in its place in the back. That way if the stick burns, it's more likely that the missing leg will tip the stove away from your shelter. You could also stack rocks up underneath the side where the missing leg goes and hopefully approximate the correct height. Rocks from a waterway might explode so avoud them. I've had rocks explode and dust both of my open eyes. I'm lucky that bigger pieces didn't put an eye or both of them out.
Very interesting about the legs, you make a good point. As for rocks, there aren't any close to this site and the ground is frozen here, so it's not like I can dog for them.
@@CampingwithSamBananas - I saw where it worked just fine with 3 legs and I did watch the whole video.
@@donolinger6904 Thanks for watching!
I'd take that stove over any of the new ones.
It held well!
You crack me up cuz I'm looking at the video and can see we have the same luck and I'm always like summa bit-h and you always try to stay positive 🤣 if you and I had a 12 pk I bet we could have gotten that water boiling. I'll cut you stoke 🤣
Haha dude yes exactly
oh man, i did the same thing with my columbia jacket. I just barely bumped the stove and the material was gone. patched it with some gear aid repair tape
Yeah that sucks dude. I saved it. Someone mentioned making a vest out of it, I may try that
Here is fodder for the algorithm sir.
Thank you!
it looks like the center of gravity is at the back because of the smoke stack.
obviously i haven't seen the end.
Keeping watching haha!
@@CampingwithSamBananas of course! I still talk to the screen more to Kevin of Small Plots, but you are a close second.
@@pc-yx9uh haha I hear ya! Kevin is the man
Poor jacket the video was great sam
Thank you! Yeah it’s a bummer but that’s what I get for wearing a nice jacket camping lol
@@CampingwithSamBananas You may want to give more consideration to your gear/clothing. It’s a nice jacket for the ski slopes, but not the real outdoors, like the woods. Down is great until it gets wet. Is that jacket waterproof? Will a small tear from a branch shred it? Coals and embers are a regular occurrence to consider too.
Keep the down jackets under a more protective outer coat, like canvas or wool. Props on improvising and persevering!
@@raleighthomas3079 Thanks man! I have a Carhart but I haven’t had a problem until this point. We’ll see what I do in the future. Unless it’s insanely cold I actually usually just do multiple layers under a hoodie and save the down jacket for bed.
How can you forget the banana flask? I might forget a change of underwear but not the flask lol. Enjoyed the video, thanks!
Haha thanks bud! It’s always a bad sign when I forget the banana flask 🤣
@Camping with Sam Bananas is the music 🎶 🎵 yours you wrote and played ▶️ ??
Hi Nancy, I wish! UA-cam gives a library of free music to use in the video. I just really like the song.
@@CampingwithSamBananas Curious about tents and pop up tarp tents in general -- can they ALREADY have floor insulation built into them to protect anyone from the cold??
@@wwcwcp09 usually any kind of tent won’t have insulation from the cold. To fix that you can bring foam mattresses, they are really cheap. They are sold at Walmart for like $10
Could you have used both tarps?
Maybe! I didn’t think about it, but that’s possible

The knorrpack would have worked even though the water wasnt boiling... would just take a bit longer...
Hopefully I don't find myself in this situation again lol! I have a real hot tent now and a real stove.
why dont you just use flat rocks under your stove ?
Because I didn’t have any around. They aren’t very plentiful in this area and searching for them is even more difficult with everything covered in snow.
Wish you'd turn up your mic input, can't hardly hear you.
I appreciate the input! If you have a chance, can you check more recent videos and tell me what you think? I’ve been working to improve the audio.
😢😂😅😅😅
Hope you didn't throw that jacket out. Bring it to a tailor and turn it into a vest
I've thought about it! I still have it.
Definitely mistitled. We can see from your breath in the tent that it is far from hot.
Always enjoy your spirited adventures. My daughter drew a fun portrait of you (check your IG inbox) Have a good one. Cheers!
Cool! I’ll check it out
Looks too close to the ground
Yes absolutely. Once the legs were in it was much better. My mom found the missing leg, so now it’s got all 4. I may try it out again next year.
