Laura the poncho is gorgeous and looks beautiful on you. Love the painting. Being an artist myself, I can tell you that I sign my paintings all over them, some on the back, some on the bottom right, some on the bottom edge of the image itself so dont let that throw you. Artists styles change as they grow and go through different periods of their careers. I think the sigs look the same so In my opinion, your golden! Thickness of paint not a big deal but look at the brush strokes, brush strokes are like a signature so say if the brush stroke has rough edges, edges that trail off or have hard outlines. Artists are very expressive so if you look at a Jackson Pollock, even though the paintings are of paint "splashes" they hold a character that is only personal to his. You and Jessie should visit a painting gallery of the old masters sometime, like Guggenheim in NY and just look at the different brush strokes and light sources each artist uses. It would be a fantastic learning experience for you and help you identify artists faster❤
My dad was friends with De Grazia he would come to the house all the time when I was a kid, my dad would have coffee every morning at a coffee shop while they sat and talked Ted would doodle on the napkins and then get up and walk away my dad would pick them up and take them home LOL.
@@indie825 when my dad died my brother went in and took all of the stuff out of the house so I guess he has them. We lived in Apache Jct. Az, at the time De grazia had a studio there by the superstition mountains.
My Dad and De grazia made a home movie my Dad was the bar tender, that is lost I am sure my brother has that also. Just big boys playing around having fun.
I have a friend who paints. She signs her work on the back with pencil. When I asked why, she said she was inspired by her favorite artist who believed a true artists work should be known by the work itself, over seeing the signature. I can appreciate that.
Girl, I'm commenting at the very start of this video before I even watch it. I just wanna say that every time I see that you have a new video up, it literally puts a smile on my face! Thank you for all that you do!
The parasol lampshade may be meant to hang upside down, from a corded bulb, as a pendant lamp. Then gravity would hold it open. That would also explain why it is not vented -open at the pointy end, for heat to escape so that it does not overheat or catch on fire. Anyhow, that is my guess, that it is meant to work with a corded bulb as a ceiling-pendant-hanging light ❤
I have one like that. Mine doesn't open very far either, it only came with the little wooden stick on a string. They were Urban Outfitters brand. My friend and I each bought one several years ago at Gabriel Brothers store. Mine is red and off-white or beige. I use it on a lamp that was my grandma's that I think she said was from the 40's (it is black and has the town drunk swinging around a lamp post. It used to have a globe shade but that part broke. I love your show! Just found it a few days ago and have been binge-watching.
Years ago I actually found two De grazia paintings at a GW near me! I got them for like 2.99 each because they had no idea what they were! A dear friend of mine (we have been best friends for 50 years now!) whose mother was into Arizona style decor and Indian things. When she saw them she burst into tears! I knew they had found the right home. Her son had them professionally framed and while she has passed they still hang in the home.
My vote on the Ted deGrazia is YES I believe it is an original. I grew up in Tucson and of course his work was quite popular. I don't think it was uncommon at all for him to paint on whatever he had at hand at the moment. My mom had one painted on a thin slab of rock. And the signature? I just makes sense to me. Just my opinion but I hope it is!
@@salala4412 I agree. The top of the G is curved and there are several areas it looks like they started and stopped to readjust like the last "a" which is almost attached though there are other versions of his signature where there is a little trail to the "a".... I suppose the type of media they are using to sign makes a difference too. Artists do perfect their professional signatures over time so who knows.
❤Years ago my husband and I lived very near Eugene and there were so many cool places to shop. Love watching you shop. Your enthusiasm is a real bright spot in my day.
I believe the wood set of 3 drawers that you want to use for silverware is actually drawers from each side of a treadle sewing machine! I have a treadle sewing machine and the drawers look exactly like that! Great idea to repurpose them! :)
I loved De Grazia since I was a little girl!! I was always trying to paint running horses like his .😊 I finally did a painting of horses, not detailed when I was in the 6th grade. I consider it one of my very best paintings ever. It is framed over my fireplace. I love it, people are amazed that I was a child when I painted it. I am 76 now. Still love De Grazia 's style 😊❤
Laura I love your attitude towards things you like.... YOU WILL FIND IT SOMEDAY IN THE WILD... YOU WILL DO IT.. I LOVE YOUR HOME. AND YOUR HUBBY IS REAL HANDSOME :)
If I had that beautiful pottery vase with the chip in the front, I would just paint the chipped area black to match the rest of the black on the vase. Because to me. it almost looks like a little slit in the dress. And I think it would look like it was part of the design. ❤
Love how passionate you are about your finds. I've seen others change to just what they can make in money but it seems you truly love the items you find
Well that was fun , I’m not elitist , I hope not anyway just an old man who collects as an obsession. I was fascinated by the first store you went in. I haven’t found anything in the area like that store and it was great to see all those wonderful things. The way you buy things and stage them is a gift. I try to do that at home with no avail. I keep thinking that I’ll find that great thing like you did with the with the painting. Who cares what it is it’s brilliant. Of course for resale value I am sure you have a different opinion. My best friend who recently passed had an original signed by degrazia. It now hangs in her great grand daughter’s room. My friends mother actually knew degrazia and he gave her that painting!
I've been to the De Grazia gallery in Tucson around 2009, last year, me and my husband went to a estate sale here in Colorado Springs and found a bunch of his work, series of plates, small paintings, candle holders and other stuff for $3 a piece. I scooped up a bunch of them because they were 50% off too🙂. That could be an original because he had his things license on a lot things too.
Love the lampshade ❤ In Europe we call that poncho a cape because it’s a fitted garment; like a jacket without arms and a poncho’s traditionally are just a square piece of fabric with a hole in the middle. I’m so jealous of your amazing taste, for finding the right stuff and the eye for Mid Century Modern ( I’m still stuck in the pop art culture with crazy colours and materials 🎉)😘🇸🇪
I love, love, love your poncho! I would grab that in a heartbeat. I had several ponchos back then. One was knitted and the other was crocheted. Both were done by family members. I wish I still had them.
I love watching you guys you always make the best out of your finds even if you do not find anything! You always are so happy and have a great attitude!
Laura, you have the most exquisite taste! Love seeing you put together items & discover really unique finds in vintage/antique shops, On your lamp dilemma, I love the 3rd, but that smashing shade does take away from the soft & simple form of the lamp itself, my opinion only, I'm staying tuned in!
Definitely love the older fruit bowl. I'm kinda' leaning toward lamp #3. Yes, it might be a little busy, but the other shade is just not working for my eye. You need some more blue in that table-scape! I'm no minimalist either, and I do not care for monotone rooms, and blue is my favorite color!
The blue and white lampshade on the inside should have a wooden ring that slides up that piece of dowel on the outside locks it in. My grandmother had them on her bedside lamps hope that helps
Laura you always come out on the positive side when you follow your gut instinct; after all that is why you took home the painting in the first place. Wow, the pencil name signature, is even more exciting. And the leather-suede jacket from the 70s was made for you. It looks great on and was just waiting for YOU to walk in the store! It was a good morning Jesse.
We just found a DeGrazia print at a Goodwill in Beaverton. It had the printed signature in the lower right, but also a handwritten inscription - "To Layla" signed by the artist in the lower left. Framed. We knew what it was because of you. Thank you! -Bill & Linda, VintageVaultPDX (friends of Brian and Heather, RestateD PDX)
I like the wood bowl for the island too but I would use the atomic one for onions somewhere else in the room... maybe on a lower shelf of an open cupboard or something. I love to have my onions in the kitchen area .. they are kind of like an art pieces of their own... I love your channel! You are so inspiring and the joy you have when you find special pieces flows right through the screen to us! Hello Laura.I am 69 and grew up in the seventies.I love all the mid century things you come across. So much of it I grew up seeing.I now find myself leaning toward furniture from that era.I love the leather cloak you bought. When I was in high school in 1968 fringe leather coats were the thing and knee high boots.I remember when I was in jr high they came out with a dress in a can .They took wild prints made with wrinkle proof fabric and put the in a can . Crazy fads.Keep posting your wonderful shopping trips, love em.God bless
Laura, that poncho looks absolutely adorable on you. Ponchos can sometimes look too billowy, but this one hangs perfectly! Also, both fruit baskets are beautiful. One advantage of the newer one is that it offers more ventilation to keep larger produce fresher. Thanks for sharing another great haul!
Last summer I found a DeGrazia painting at goodwill in Boise. It was beautifully framed and it was so hard to tell if it was authentic. Finally, I concluded that it was a print on canvas, and it came from his studio. Not as valuable as a painting but still very cool. I think his studio does authenticate his work, if you want to look into it.
Love the poncho so awesome and looks perfect on you😊👍. The rustic fruit bowl is you guys. The atomic is for someone else. The giant pepper grinder is crazy beautiful. Love the umbrella lampshade too. Liked it with the tulip base. Great video and lovely finds. 🌈🤗🦋
That beautiful soon-to-be silverware drawer looks like it once belonged on the underside of an antique sewing machine table, especially with the keyholes.
Yes. That looks like a piece of pressed board available in the 50’s. I have a rectangular piece that my late mom used to put vintage tiles on and made an oversized trivet. (I remember her making it when I was really little. I recently got the piece back from my step mom). Boy was I excited! I didn’t know it was still around. Means the world to me. But anyway, that board is exactly the same.
Years ago masonite board was the choice painting ground for oil paint. It was sturdy, stable easy to find and cost very little . Congratulations on your DeGrazia painting 🎨🖌️ 😊
Love your Poncho, it was made for you! As far as your painting, it looks like an original but I have no artistic knowledge, only what my heart feels. Option 2
Lamp #2!!! You have taught me so many things about different artists and vintage--and I continue to learn! Thank you for that and all the thrifting fun. Love your videos!
That signature looks like it may be authentic...could be a study for future painting on canvas. The poncho is perfect for you. The organic wood bowl is the winner!
Suggestions for that shade, I do believe that there was a wooden ring that would prop it open and a pin would go through it to hold it open. Love all you videos.
Hi I'm a newbie but in love with all your videos and finds. I know nothing about art but have relatives that do. When there is in inspiration they will pick whatever to do a somekind of boceto untill they determine what to fix before the ending finish. The painting is still beautiful and at the end the wooden box you are using for napkins and spoons is actually part of the old black singer foot pedal sewing machine. I have two and both come with them. They were used for storage of needles, measuring tape, thread and all the other items needed. I didn't know if you knew. Can't wait for you next finds.
I just love your poncho. It looks good on you. As for the painting on boards, when in high school we learned how to oil paint on those back in the late 70's. Maybe it was a practice piece. The cool lamp shade looks like a Holland print. I love #3. Up here in Michigan we have the antique capitol of Allen Michigan. Alot to see for sure. Its on US 12 not far from the Indiana border. Several in neighboring towns also. Thanks teach 🍎 I'm learning alot from you. ✌💙 Happy thrifting.
Hi Laura. This is my first time commenting. What you have found from Perú from the Colonial period is amazing. Colonial period is after Columbus discovered America and the Catholic Church selected a number of priests from the Jesuit Order, transferred them to the South of Spain, taught them the Spanish language, changed their names to a Spanish origin name, and many of them were also trained as fine art artists who went and taught Native Indians the religious art for their new Cathedrals and churches. The main school of painting were in Mexico City, Cusco-Perú, and Quito-Ecuador. The latest part of Colonial art were also made by very talented fine art artists/Priests original from Italy. That’s why the religious Colonial art can be found made by local native in a rough style, or by a more refined Baroque or Renaissance style made by Italians priests. There are collectors of Colonial art who could be interested in your piece. It’s so great to learn and it would be so valuable to find valuable treasures. One day you passed by an antique store in California that had a Diego Rivera painting for sale. I took an interested and I called the store, but shipping art was an issue for them.
WOW! this episode was so inspiring I've never heard of Ted Degrazia, so I googled and saw some of his horse paintings, beautiful! And YES the poncho looks great on you 😁
Hi Laura, a lot of painters use wood panels to paint on. I actually have an original by a german artist done on a large wooden panel, so don't let that scare you. Additionally, artists have been known to sign on the back of the work, and not the front. BTW absolutely love the leather poncho. Perfecto, it's you 100%.
The first thing I pictured in my mind was to fill it with colorful skeins of yarn. I do a lot of crocheting and it would be nice to display my yarns as I use them with my projects.
I love your new poncho, it looks like it was made for you it's perfection! Secondly, my vote is for the original fruit bowl. The basket would be perfect in a bathroom as you recommend. Thirdly, I agree with you on the items I keep in my home. I don't worry about chips and cracks as they add character. Thanks for another great video.

The new "Fruit Boul" is out of place on your countertop. It looks like it needs a stack of magazines in it.I also like your idea to use it for towels.
The bowl hands down for me!
Eugene is a College town and you can find amazing art in both Eugene & Springfield. I lived there in the 1980's and I love thrifting there.
We have multiple fruit and vegetable bowls. Bounty. Nutrition. Health!
The leather poncho is everything! Could the painting possibly be a very early work or the artist while he was developing his style? Great finds.
I had the same thought
Exactly what i was thinking. Alot of paintings were done on board. Its alot cheaper when your practicing.
Poncho is so you!!! Very flattering on you!! Great buy!
I ACTUALLY LOVE THE FLORAL ONE WITH THE LAMP AND THE AREA👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The knotty wooden bowl is amazing. That would be my vote hands down!
You could place something small and short in front of the chip in the pottery, a small candle, a small plant or lay a twig in front⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love how you share your knowledge. I love to learn, but I have a difficult time retaining it. The poncho is so you!
I said it first that poncho suits your personality. I love the painting.
Back to the lamp. I'm sticking with #2. The curvy negative space it creates helps with all the linear pieces in the room.
The drawers from the old sewing machine cabinet are cool.
Lamp #1, use tulip lamp for bedside reading. Wood fruit bowl as per Jesse. Cape is terrific, however do you feel like you've got TRex arms? Lol!
I love the rustic bowl; and the cape is wonderful on you!
Years ago masonite board was the choice painting ground for oil paint. It was sturdy, stable easy to find and cost very little . Congratulations on your DeGrazia painting 🎨🖌️ 😊
Ohhhh I miss goodwill in the PNW 😬
Love your Poncho, it was made for you! As far as your painting, it looks like an original but I have no artistic knowledge, only what my heart feels.
Option 2
The poncho looks amazing on you!! Great coloring with your hair. Luv, luv, luv your videos!! TY for all you do!!
Lamp #2!!! You have taught me so many things about different artists and vintage--and I continue to learn! Thank you for that and all the thrifting fun. Love your videos!
That signature looks like it may be authentic...could be a study for future painting on canvas. The poncho is perfect for you. The organic wood bowl is the winner!
Am drunk with joy to watch you snag such fab finds😉
The poncho looks lovely on you. Great finds. Really enjoy your vlogs. Lamp 2
Suggestions for that shade, I do believe that there was a wooden ring that would prop it open and a pin would go through it to hold it open. Love all you videos.
Love the shade on the tulip lamp! Even the top of the shade mirrors the tulip! I don't think it's too busy at all!
You look amazing in your poncho. I have quite a few capes and ponchos, I love wearing them. It suits your style perfectly. Fabulous. X
Your photography is fantastic. I love the poncho!
And YES the poncho looks great on you 😁
I like the old round rustic fruit bowl BEST 😀
Yayyyy new video! Amazing finds! I love when you and Jesse thrift together, it's so fun
