Hi Doc! Apologies if this is covered in other videos but I have 2 questions- 1) On EMIS I don’t have access to Configuration tab. Is this something my practice manager etc has to grant me access to? 2) How do you create a new clinical code? My practice has no code prompt for “IM injection of testosterone”. Can I add this? And I want to add the function to enter batch no and exp date etc, and also have a pop up to prompt them to check if monitoring bloods have been done? Many thanks for your help 😊
Is there a way to include an EMIS search ( frequent attenders) into a protocol to create an alert when the Triage team are booking to support continuity ?
That's a really great question. I would probably suggest looking into something called concepts. I haven't really got into that too much because I often suffer alert overload already with the way our practice is set up to be honest.
@@GPONTHEMOVE HI I'll ask an EMIS friend. The concepts allow codes etc but as the type of consult wont usually be coded doesnt seem an easy way to do this
Could you even do a protocol including if-then-else options? I am having a hard time with the SMR-03 IIF and I thought, how good it would be if each time a weight or U&E is added to a DOAC patient it would launch a protocol (one different for each DOAC) which could, based on CrCl, give a guidance if the dose is correct? For instance if on apixaban 5, CrCl 45, but age 80+ and weight under 60kg it could create a task to review the dose or add the code DOAC unchanged with a simple click?
That sounds so cool! I'm not sure that can be done though. Our pharmacist was working on something similar in our practice and he ended up giving up :) but maybe worth having a try!
@@GPONTHEMOVE I have been looking around and I can confirm there is a way of doing it :) but if it’s triggered automatically I would need to do some testing before launching anything or they will have my head on a pike … one other issue could be a task overload, but I really wanted to avoid a pop-up message
Thank you very much. I'll let you know I have just release the ULTIMATE EMIS Course - which has over 50 videos with never before seen footage. Let me know what you think :) egplearning.podia.com/how-to-use-emis-as-a-clinician
Can you create a pop up alert when you are prescribing a class of medication ? I am trying to create a pop up alert to remind people to request a U&E in 2 weeks time when starting someone on an ACei/ARB. Do you have any tips on how i can acheive this on emis
Hi, thanks for these videos, finding them very useful. I wonder if you know of any way to trigger a protocol for only new diagnoses. Specifically what I'm trying to do is make so that every time a new diagnosis of asthma is made it triggers a protocol to ensure they get Spiro / feno. Currently I have it where it'll trigger any time asthma is coded even if it's a review. Thanks
Thanks for your video. I'm trying to set up an EMIS Alert/pop-up if people code a certain diagnosis on patients of a specific gender/age. Do you have a video or tutorial for this?
Not yet :) although I personally sometimes suffer with pop up fatigue - the more pop ups the more I ignore them (at my peril mind you). What exactly would you be looking for?
@@GPONTHEMOVE No, I confess I'm not a massive fan of the pop up either and it's possible/likely that I may not actually activate it in the end. I have a clinical and research interest in perimenopause and I think that it's being underdiagnosed/misdiagnosed as anxiety/depression some of the time because it's not occuring to the woman or the clinician when they present with relevant symptoms. I was going to set up a pop-up that if someone of the right gender (aware of the limitations of gender in EMIS/NHS Digital data....), and age is coded as having a new diagnosis of anxiety/depression (and hasn't been diagnosed with perimenopause or started on HRT), there's a pop-up prompt just to ask the clinician to consider a diagnosis of perimenopause and ask a few relevant questions (vasomotor symptoms, menstrual change).
Is part of a far broader sense that technology *should* be helping us as doctors (especially GPs) by providing us with the right information at the right time... something I don't think it's very good at doing at the moment.
@@yvettepyne3318 That makes perfect sense and our practice doctors have certainly been more aware of that after being forced to watch the Davina McCall documentary :) which was actually really informative!

The last bit. Lifesaver! Thank you GP man.

Mind Blown! Don't need to use my excel converter for height and weight unless they want to do it metric to imperial!
hahaha, gotta love excel too though
I just started st3 and your videos have been really helpful. I find that Emis has a lot of things I have no clue about
Glad to hear it and good luck in finishing off your training! :)
How do you save the document to the patient record
A good question, have you figured this out yet?
@ I can trigger the document but it won’t save to patient record

Hi, it is possible to share useful protocols with colleagues in other practices/networks, and then just import them into the protocol folder in emis?
it's a great video by the way, and I am going to be watching a lot more of your stuff
I'm pretty sure there is an export function from memory, so yes.

Concepts is the way forward, but they can be pretty annoying for other clinicians so I personally have avoided them :)
