Im with on the hair being better sculpted. It makes them look more like statues when you get them posed on the shelf. The rooted hair makes them look doll like.
I've seen rare examples of rooted hair looking good but 99% of the time I'd prefer molded hair. As you say, they usually look like a doll.
Depends on the character and figure. WW would look terrible with sculpted hair because it is too long and would limit posing the head. This BW works as sculpted because it is tied back in a plait, that would be too difficult to do with rooted hair.

Headsculpt looks really good, and so glad there isn't rooted hair. Rooted hair is so rarely done well for the long run and to me just doesn't work due to how it sits (i.e. It doesn't fall like real hair does). Think specifically the infinity war figure really needed sculpted hair.

I love this figure- she’s my only Black Widow HT so far, honestly it’s the most definitive outfit and by far the best face and hair out of them all. I do really want the white suit one as well, because a) it’s really unique for her and b) I think that head is even better. My one complaint here is with her baton weapons, I wish they had red detailing on them, they lack the energized look they had in the film (not to mention the connected one suffers the same issues as Thanos’ blade, why couldn’t they just make a set that peg together ugh) great review!

I agree with you completely. I dislike rooted hair a LOT. They somehow cheapen the look of the figure for me and instead of looking like a nice collectible, it looks like a doll from a supermarket. Sculpted hair is definitely the way to go. I do understand that it's not always possible, especially with figures that have super long hair cause sculpted hair then means less posability. Then again the pictures of Hot Toys Qui-Gon Jinn look absolutely fantastic and he has long hair AND they're sculpted.

Just my personal opinion, even the articulation for the boots is not good, I still prefer HT didn’t split up the join, as in real life u won’t expect the boots being splitted and it is normal u don’t get a bunch of movement with those on in real life. So I’m fine with that
They can do it well like hawkeye
I might have to wait and see if they release the solo movie look, since that has an more comic book vibrant accuracy to the character, where the bracelets are golden, and the belt is golden too. And the hair might also be sculpted on that look too with two braids or something like that.

I always wanted the first Avengers Black Widow but I missed out on it. And the ones that came out after that were not great. This one on the other hand looks even better than the First Avengers movie Black Widow. After watching this review I’m so happy I Pre-Ordered this 👍🏻

Great review as usual, but I couldn't disagree more about the sculpted vs. rooted hair. Rooted hair is vastly superior for the simple reason that it looks like real hair and not plastic. Yes, the rooted hair takes a little futzing to get it just right, but in the end it's much better.
The simple fact that you can instantly capture the perfect look of a character right out of the box with sculpted hair answers it wholeheartedly
SPOILER! (Like anyone hasn’t watched it)
This is the best looking Black Widow I’ve ever seen but sadly she wasn’t into any action in Endgame... The only fight scene involving her was a brief scene against Hawkeye before her sacrifice. Maybe that explains the lack of accessories she’s got

Great review Justin! No doubt about it, this is the best Black Widow ever made, headsculpt is perfect, and the body proportions are really well done, this is not a generic 1/6 female body, Hot Toys really did some serious research and tried to replicate Scarlett Johannson's body

@@aarons8532 I'm avoiding bulky figures like the Hulkbuster, which tend to be significantly more expensive. My only Hot Toys Figure so far is IW Doctor Strange, which was absolutely worth it! II ordered a few others as well but the art is just hard to pass up
Awesome review as always, I find it a bit crazy that Hot Toys released like, four different figures in the span of a week...no doubt you have War Machine Mark 6 on the way too! Looking forward to that~

That box art is really good and the figure is the best widow i've seen! Just wish hot toys would do a better job at expressions.. Hawkeye was a better buy for me tho, what he comes with alone makes him worth it.

Justin's Collection you’re welcome! I understand and agree with the points you made such as the head sculpt looks so good and like Scarlett Johansson. And it would have been nice if the boots had a joint on each so you had more pose-able articulation with the figure.

I think hot toys should've engineered the suit better to get greater articulation. She is quite athletic in the movies. Would be nice to get her in some dynamic poses

Amazing headsculpt! Thanks for the review. I still wish they were able to match the likeness with Hawkeye. Side by side the Black Widow sculpt leaves Hawkeye in the dust

great video, ive been looking at adding a BW to my collection for along time now, i only have cap, iron man, hulk and Thor avengers wise so wanted to add a widow, glad i held off so long as this does indeed look like the best one i think so think ill grab 1 of these versions. I dont have a hawkeye, and I'm in 2minds whether to get one, but which version would you recommend if i decided to get one?

Hot Toys absolutely nailed Scarlett Johansson's likeness this time around. As great as the Civil War version is, this one is even better. The Civil War version has a great looking head sculpt. However, the Endgame Black Widow has a phenomenal representation of the actress. The portrait is very beautiful from every single angle. Rooted hair doesn't always work when it comes to 1/6th scale figures. The Age of Ultron Black Widow was a prime example because the hair had the tendency to get really frizzled and out of control. Hot Toys made a smart decision by utilizing sculpted hair for the Endgame Black Widow, which has been very nicely done. I like the fact that the end of the ponytail has a lighter color than the rest of the hair. The eyes look great. The skin has a realistic texture to it. I love the outfit, which also has a great texture as well. However, it's tight fitting and it restricts movement and articulation. It would've been nice if there was a cut at the ankle areas of the boots, but I guess Hot Toys wanted to go the seamless route. You get a nice clean finish, but you end up sacrificing ankle articulation as a result. Black Widow doesn't come included with many accessories, but she does come included with the ones that you'd expect her to have. The fact that the pistols have moving reload mechanisms and removable magazine clips are much appreciated. To top it off, the display stand compliments the overall piece rather well and I like the half glossy and half matte finish. Though, I would've preferred it if the display stand had a name placard on the front, instead of simply having the name printed, but that's just a small nitpick. Otherwise, thanks as always Justin for the great review. I greatly appreciate the continued hard work!

one problem with the rooted hair is the type they use. I think Hot Toys seems to be inconsistent with the type they use for each figure. I'm not sure whether I like the molded braid. Of all of the Black Widow figures, the one that would probably have the most successful use of rooted hair, they use the molded option. The previous versions, especially the short hair styles, its tough to avoid that flyaway result unless they shellac it with product like with Barbie dolls (ever see the early Barbie version of X-Files Scully?). The type of saran hair fibers makes all the difference with rooted hair. thanks Justin

Finally a Black Widow I’d consider. I loved her look in Infinity with the short blonde hair but they ruined it by making it rooted. Would have looked amazing like this.

I will keep my civil war figure and only buy the endgame headsculpt. The movement possibilities from civil war figure are so much better and the fabric matirial looks much more natural.

It's a great figure but I still like better my CW version, but after I get all my PO figures from end game that are the most important to me, maybe I'll get it (and it would be the third time I broke my rule of no repeating characters) and the sculpted hair looks pretty good in this figure I don't see how it could have been done with rooted hair, but when a rooted hair is doing properly the figure looks more real (and I'm not a person who prefers rooted hair always).

At least in short haired the sculpted hair works cool, but tends to fail with long hair. In Wonder Woman case, rooted hair looks much better. There are some 1/6 th Wonder Woman with sculpted hair and it prevented her neck to move, and even her arms, making posing too difficult.
In Nat case, sculpted hair works great.

I actually think winter soldier and the latest figure here are the standout pieces !! best sculpt on the endgame release by far. Will they top it with the Black widow solo movie releases we will see.

Hot toys figures are looking great lately, however, I'm not big fan of the material used in the latest releases. It would be nice to have more posing options if the materials were not that restrictive.
I will get this figure anyways, but I'm noticing that some of my last purchases are almost statues now.

27:57 is Black Widow too short or is Hawkeye too tall? Scarlett Johannson is 5'3'' and Jeremy Renner is 5'9''. In the film, her eyes if staring straight are as high up as Renner's nose

You need to futz the hair better on your other BW figures. I mean that AoU one can look a lot better than that.

I want a Black Widow but I have some decisions to make. Should I wait for the BW movie figure or purchase this EG BW? I just feel like if I wait, Hot Toys will make even more improvements but at the same time, this is the best Black Widow yet (at least head sculpt wise). I only want one BW in my collection so it'll be tough
