I just wanted to say thank you for this video. I have a brass zippo that I’ve owned for decades now that I got when I was in the army many many years ago lol and the lid came off on mine like it did yours. I sent it back to zippo they repaired it and a month later it came back off so now I used your fix and it worked and it’s holding so thank you because like you said sentimental value was far more valuable than just replacing it.
I love elegant solutions. I would never have thought to use solder, and using the spring to maintain contact was the cherry on top. I did however use my hot air rework gun to flow some flux core solder onto the lid instead of my iron. You just helped me repair the Zippo my now departed brother gave me. Thank you sir.

Thanks for the kind words. I make these videos, because of people like you. Again, thank you so very much!
this was very very very helpful. Did the fix end up lasting this whole year?
Yes, I use it every day. No problems 😊
I didn't expect the solder to stick to a zippo...
Me neither. Luckily it did😊
Its very good idea. thank you 😊
Amazing!
The more metal you add the more heat you need because. The extra metal works like a heat sink
Fixed it with a big gap by the hinge
You should use a higher watt solder iron.
I know. But I have only my feeble electronics iron. I should have preheated it with my heat gun.
24 hour JB WELD works without heat, but I have to say your "spring clamp method is genius! Great job!
Thank you very much!
What type of solder and flux did you use?
I use leaded solder 60/40 and chipquik smd291 flux.
Sehr gut 😇😇😇😇
