- My aftermarket exhaust is rattling against the rear bumper on my NC MX-5/ Miata. And here's how I fixed it for less than $1.
The last time I had an exhaust rattle, I fixed it by replacing my hanger bushings with fresh new ones. So, the next step is adding some cushioning between my exhaust tip and the part that it's rattling against. Quick, cheap, and easy!
THIS is the heat resistant foam insulation I used in the video👉 amzn.to/3kYJYrd

I have a similar issue with my truck where my exhaust is hitting the frame. i was thinking of using some silicone impregnated fiberglass exhaust / header wrap since its hidden under the truck and i already have it from another project. Think it will work? Mine only rattles when reversing, or hitting bumps or cold idle. The exhaust is tucked right up to a natural notch in the frame just before the leaf spring mount to keep it tight to the body where it exits in front of the rear tire.
I'd say it's definitely worth a try. Since you have the material already, it won't cost you anything extra, and it's going to hold up well to heat. 👍😊
Did this work? Also is the heat shield going to burn ?
It did work. Ran the car like that for 1 and a half years. And no the heatshielding didn't burn.
But it did kinda flatten over time. It didn't make any noise but I think maybe in a couple more years it would just be too thin to do its job. So if I were to do it again, I'd use a thicker version of the same thing, or perhaps stick 2 layers. 😊
I have a different exhaust now and it doesn't contact the bumper. So I removed the heat shielding. 😊
Why not just get lower hangers?
Because I'm fussy and don't like the look of the exhaust tip hanging too far from the bumper. 😆
