That’s so sad to hear that someone lost there life to heat stroke 😞 the warmer temps seem to have been devastating this year so great video on some of the tips to avoid heat exhaustion. I tend to stay away from climbs in the heat and stick to low level forest tracks. I always carry a water filter with me regardless of the weather in addition to lots of water. Hope it cools a bit for you there soon 😊

Thank you Yasmin! It is serious business to hike in extreme temperatures. The cold can be just as devastating. Your awareness and precautions are good to. Over exertion should be avoided. Thanks for watching!

Good tips and reminders. I like LMNT too, the watermelon is my fave! Sad to hear about the fatality from heat exhaustion. Have never soaked a buff in water before, that is a new tip. Appreciate you Dan!

Yes! What you did with the gaiter I did with a bandana. It really helped . As far as clothes go, I love my Baleaf shorts, long pants and shirts. For hot weather or cold, they work well. Using your umbrella can provide some shade where there is none.

We have electrolyte supplements to put in our water now, but i remember reading that Grandma Gatewood took boullion cubes with her and would suck on them while hiking. 🥵 I'm so glad we have other things now. 😊

Good video and advice. Putting your water bottle in a sock and soaking the sock will cool your water. Drink a quart of water just before bed. It will hydrate you and make you get up in the middle of the night. This is another opportunity to hydrate. Many hikers(and soldiers) started the day dehydrated. Good Luck, Rick

Wow Dan super lovely to meet you, thanks again coming to our channel from A Tramp in the Hills. This was so interesting, such a shame for the young boy found dead from heat stroke! Great advise on electrolytes we have never heard of this and we sure don’t drink enough on our hikes which we know is dangerous! Jill has just order the 2 l hydration packs for our rucksacks but we will look into the electrolytes, we do keto so would also need sugar free! Super advise on the clothes we always opt for shorts but have ticks in our local area so have to tick buddy each other, we found 4-5 on each other last time! We are not keen on summer hikes! But your channel and this video really helps! You are so super kitted and kaboodled awesome! Look forward to more of your content! Have a great weekend 👍 Nick and Jill

@@WanderingMonkHikes I usually use propel and put one pack in a liter of water. If it's really hot and I'm sweating a lot, I may use a second one but usually one a day and then plain water. If it's not to hot and I'm not sweating much, I just drink water.

Hi Dan great tips here and really helpful, I make our own sugar free electrolyte drink for when we go hiking and always carry and use sun cream too . The hat I need to work on as I only use baseball type cap in very sunny weather. I always use a neck buff too and great idea about wetting it to keep cool . Hope you are well, have a weekend :) ~ Anna

@@WanderingMonkHikes Dan yes I didn't realise you were a diabetic until you said in this video.
I make a 1 litre jug and put in
750 ml water then top it up with lime or lemon juice( we prefer lime)
1 tablespoon of stevia, 1/4 teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt and then vary it each day by adding different fruit. . ..
10 blueberries or 6 strawberries or about about 8 cherries but you can add more or less fruit or none at all . I make a jug a day between us and we take it out hiking in a spirts bottle , its so refreshing and cheaper than buying it 🙂👍

@@WanderingMonkHikes Dan yes of course you can use it . I also did a cucumber one about a year ago putting in about 6 slices which was lovely and refreshing too without the stevia sweetener and you can play around with whatever fruit you like too :) 🙂

Thank you for watching and commenting! Yes, hydration is so important. In the heat I may drink 1 liter every hour. So, I look for trails with reliable water sources and have a good water filter to resupply on the go. All the best and Happy Trails!
