Thank you for this!! I’ve really been wanting to try clouds for a long time, but keep thinking I’m not quite ready just yet (instead of just trying it, lol) so I was very happy to see the topic of this quick tip!! I’m going to try it right now! As someone else just said, teaching us how to think about these things shows what a great teacher you are and is what I love about all of your lessons ❤
Hey Dianne Thanks for the valuable lesson as always. Could you please share your knowledge on how to approach a smooth, empty sky? I struggle with leaving the background completely cloudless like some artist do.
Dianne, how do you keep your paints on your palette fresh for each use? Thank you for sharing your techniques and short quick tips. Are you painting on a dry primed canvas? I have always done wet on wet to get a good blend in the sky. I am just starting to paint more since the garden has gone to sleep and hope to sign up for your monthly subscriptions. Happy Thanksgiving to you.
This is most helpful. Thank you. I notice that when you paint in these quick tips you use small amounts of paint and it always looks so easy to apply. I find that unless I add quite a lot of a medium or just solvent or linquin my paint doesn’t move as easily. Is there something that I am missing?
First, I use only paint that comes out of the tube in a creamy consistency. All the Rembrandt colors and most of the Gamblin artist grade colors do just that. Next, when starting out with a dry canvas, I always slightly dampen the surface with 50/50 linseed (or poppy oil) and Gamsol. It's only damp enough to appear slightly shinny on my fingertips--certainly not wet. If your paint is stiff as it comes out of the tube, thoroughly working a drop of linseed oil into it before using it will loosen it to the right consistency.
You are incredible. Inspiring the student on how to approach and think is the mark of a GREAT teacher.
Wow, thank you!
thanks a lot for making the steps easier and more understandable for us.😊
My pleasure 😊 Enjoy the journey!
