    A lockpicking escape room would be fun to watch - you could take turns setting it up and seeing who can get out the fastest.

      @@mumblecake251 That's the thing, I for one would like to see a first-take video. Both of successes and failures. Even though I understand less than 99% of the terminology, it would be a joy to see him puzzle it out, try something only for it not to work and work out a new tactic. We may never see those, but I suspect a lot of would like to.

    "I knew what not to do, and that's more important than you may think."
    Information by exclusion is a GREAT way to learn. There's an old story about an engineer investigating why planes were getting shot down, I believe in WWII, and how to help reduce that. So he took a look at the planes that were returning and noted where they had received damage. He then recommended they reinforce areas where there was NO damage on future planes.
    Why? Pretty simple. Where there was damage on the planes that had returned, they WERE still able to return; they could demonstrably take damage in those areas and still remain flyable. Therefore, the planes that were not returning must have taken damage somewhere ELSE -- meaning the undamaged areas of the planes that did return must contain weak spots that needed reinforcing.

    • @weichenteo4297
      @weichenteo4297 4 роки тому +65

      There is actually slightly more to the story. At first, they reinforces where the planes got shot at. However, the amount of planes getting shot down did not decrease. That is when they realised what NOT to do which is not to reinforce where they get shot but rather reinforce where they did not get shot.

      @@weichenteo4297 To be precise it was Center for Naval Analyses that pushed for reinforcements in affected areas. And Abraham Wald explained to them their mistake. He died in a Plane crash :(

    • @effyleven
      @effyleven 4 роки тому +9

      It's more complicated. Where the plane gets hit is not the only survival factor. How much the plane gets hit is, too. The problem is the limited data set. The planes that need to be examined are the ones that did NOT make it. That's what plane crash investigation does... most often by rebuilding from the wreckage.

      Albert Lebel - I quadruple this motion proposed by Albert Lebel. I would suggest using common keyways such as Kwikset, Schlage and Yale using only plug , bible and pin modifications. Nothing crazy like adding sidebars or traps that completely seize up the lock and you each pick your own lock then give it to the other. It might also be nice to do some type of charity fundraiser for a charity that almost anyone would support - (charities that help exploited children, tutoring programs - things like that) if someone donates a certain amount, they get a chance at picking one of the locks within two weeks of receiving it and then they pass it on to the next person who earned a chance to pick it.

    Thanks again and you guys cook up another collaboration to keep things exciting.
    How about a dual occupancy video with you both sharing hands on tips with each other and your fans. Like exchanging first time tries back and forth with challenge locks. Draw lots and see who goes first. Time it and let other do it. But in a friendly and funny monologue style. Show off your humor you guys showed a bit in your naughty bucket garage video. That was a riot!

    It’s cool how LPL is humble enough to call his and Bosnian bill’s approaches just “different” instead of saying that his approach is better, which I believe it is. I’ve been picking for almost 10 years and I started with Bill’s videos, he’s actually the first channel I subscribed to on this UA-cam account, but I think it’s undeniable that LPL is the better picker. His heavy handed approach delivers better results based on what I’ve seen. I started with a lighter touch and followed bill’s advice when I started because he was pretty much my only way to learn back then, but over time I’ve transitioned more into a heavy handed approach because of LPL, and it’s been more effective for me as well. To be clear, this isn’t to take anything away from bill, he’s a better picker than I will probably ever be and just in general, a very skilled picker, but in my mind, LPL is probably one of the top 10 best pickers on earth. At the very least, he’s definitely the best UA-cam picker.

    I would love to see more collaborations with BB. Several of the previous comments are right on point... simple conversations, dueling challenge locks, creative pinning interpretations.
    And, my thought... field condition picks. Set up, and open something "in situ". This may play well to BB's strengths, as he apparently has done a lot of that professionally.

Cool explanation and reasoning.😅 Maybe Bill & yourself can do a collaboration lock series, showing building different locks & pin's, core mods etc. Maybe modded, maybe commercial pins but sort of a how-to and a comp on picking them too. Hey LPL, I see you did not pick up the Gerda, I was looking forward of you picking it. I would understand why you didn't pick it up is because tensioning is difficult and along with very high tolerences (about only 20 um of error), there are mushroom pins in it as well. To put in perspective a typical Schlage lock has around 70-100 um of error (the thickness of the human hair). And you probably had trouble with those 2 locks, because of the higher tolerences.

    I apologise if I've missed it but I've always wondered if video or two aimed at lock purchasing would help. Perhaps a few suggestions at different price points and a few different strengths, x for protection against brute force attacks, y against picking attacks and so on. Its a little outside locksport but I also don't think theres anyone who could do it better considering the sheer number of locks and depth at which the locksport community looks at every weakness would help. I also think its something which would be better with more than one person to take preference out of the equation. Its a little outside of what I'd expect and obviously isn't aimed at locksport specifically but I do think it would help a lot of people, myself included when it comes to motorcycle security.

    Hi to Bill and yourself from the other side of the pond ... ! Would love to see you guy's doing a series of aftermarket steering lock arms that you apply to car steering wheels ... Many of these boast of being drill proof and impregnable to thieves ... Would love to see you guy's put to shame some of these spurious claims ... !
    Great series of lock picks, I have been riveted to the series ... Kind regards Dean'o ... UK ...

    You guys are both obviously very gifted. Ive been designing a lock for a couple months now. Basically taking the best parts of each lock and trying to encompass it into one lock. Id like to see you guys design and build an "unpickable" lock.

    Just as your picking styles are different, I imagine your ideas on challenge locks might be as well. It would be cool to see you and Bill blind pick identical stock locks, improve them, then send them to each other. Knowing each other’s styles while improving the locks would make for some very interesting comparisons after the fact. The series could be 2 videos each and one collaboration at the end to discuss.

    To learn from you guys i think it would be awesome to just listen to you talking an hour about different locks which you both picked. This worked for me on a lot of skills, listen to two or more people talking about specific things on a topic.

    My idea, and unfortunately I'm not tooled enough to do it, is the following:
    Having two euro cylinders 90° to each other, connected on the bible. The tricky part is, one is blocking the others pins to move. So you need two skilled pickers to open it.
    I'd love to make that reality.
    And thank you for inspiring me to this new hobby! I love fiddling on stuff and that really floats my boat. You and Bill helped me so much to get started. Right now I'm on week 4 or 5 and just picked two ABUS ISA euro watching your video. :)

  • @AalbertTorsius

    Double euro cylinder, Bill picks one side, you the other, simultaneously. First one to turn the cam wins!
    Nah, kidding. Just talk about locks.

    That cool bouth of you are great picker I stated doing it my self by watching you and Bill. Bouth of you great teacher's for this skill. So what if you know the lock. You can't know all. That why we practice.

    You could send each other packages that are locked together in a way that makes the lock difficult to pick or break, and of course, try to get them open, and just kick new ideas back and forth. These days, it's really easy to break into things. If we can deter it in a simple and affordable way, that would be really practical.
    --For example, a lock on a hasp. Can it be thoroughly wrapped with knotted up with the same chain it secures so that you absolutely need the key to get it open?

      I spent 2 hours the night before last trying to crack one I just got. Paracentric keyway and 2 serrated pins and the tension was just weird, it was very satisfying to turn that bar and open the dammed thing. Lock picking is such a blast.

    Nicely said, I would like to see a collaboration on a dual type of lock. I think a head to head competition would be cool(I understand it puts egos in the front line). Same lock different distructive ways would be neat. That's all I got off the top of my head. You both rock and thank you for the many hours of entertainment, both of y'all.

    Immensely enjoyed both you and Bill doing these videos. What I would like to see is both of you to open locks without commercial or purpose built home made lock picks. It would be interesting to see how resourceful each of you can be using items that can be easily obtained. You can start on simple locks and work your way through a variety of different lock types
    right up to the challenge locks. The scenario is that each of you must open the lock without damage and you left all you lock picking tools behind or been stolen. I am not into you competing with one another as you are both highly skilled in your own techniques and it is fascinating to watch and learn from both of you.

    For picking locks I can see why knowing what not to do would be extremely helpful. You are also just naturally good at it I think. I also think that's why he let you have a chance at it, because he knew you would be the best person to have a chance at some of those locks.

    Colab ideas.
    1. LPL and BB should take turns on the giant Gerda Titan.
    2. Make each other challenge locks.
    3. Have a 3rd party assemble challenge locks and each time themselves to see who can get in quicker.
    4. Design an ultra high security lock for production.

  • @HowlingCurve
    @HowlingCurve 6 років тому

    @Albert Lebel I agree with the challenge lock idea and maybe to add a twist to have both pick in a "pick off" style video with both LPL and BB sitting together to see who can open their locks the fastest while throwing some jokes at each other to try put each other off their game.
    Great videos from both of you guys, the 2 of you have taught me so much about picking over the past year. Thanks guys and keep up the great work.

    I think this is genius! The key to why I like it so much is the friendship. Sherlock and Watson, friends and dare I say it - abstract art. Friendship and investigation. That is what ppl love! So just do stuff together with BB that contains investigation. The banter is great! How about you and BB get permission to get into ppls houses that they have paid good money to secure? This way they can improve their security even further. Would be great fun to see you go on a roadtrip. You would easily be as entertaining as the Mythbusters. Go for it!

    I've seen some nice ideas in the comments regarding Bill and you collaborating (eg. challenge locks, let Bill try your naughty bucket, etc) but I would love to see you and Bill sit down for a cuppa or a wee tipple and discuss some aspect of locks/lockpicking (being a big history buff, I would love to hear about your favourites locks, their design history, why they are constructed the way they are ...a Forgotten Weapons of locks).

    I signed in (twice, in fact) and was put through YT's sadistic hoops (re-loads unasked-for, etc.) in order to say that LPL was very gracious in thanking (Bosnian)Bill for his complicity.
    I'd like to suggest that LPL and BB collaborate on a lock-picking Thneed -- a key-ringable All-in-One tool that can tension (CW & CCW) while allowing various picks (interchangeable, perhaps snap-in, to retain 'feel') to be used to cover the widest range of commonly-seen locks.

    Surely, the simplest idea would be for Bill to select some locks from your Naughty Bucket? That would give him a chance to even up the 'score'. Thanks, LPL.

    Great video and a satisfying conclusion to the Naughty Bucket Chronicles. I have a strong feeling that you and Bill share other hobbies (most notably firearms), so I'd love to see a chat where you talk about the stuff you do for fun that isn't locksport.
