I like traditional linear TV, I know the convenience of streaming but there's something lost when it comes to moving from a linear model to streaming. Who knows, maybe broadcast TV can have a hipster renesance. Merry Christmas!

Shame that the BBC One ident doesn't use the Lens design.

This is the worst year for me since the lament in Hell Year 2016™ that idents are a dying art. The art style for the animated special on BBC1 is gorgeous and the 'afternoon' ident is quietly impressive. Just imagine, we came dangerously close to these introducing election coverage... It is a disappointment that 2 years have now gone without the lens motif Xmased up. The rotating camera angle was used by the Shaun the Sheep set last year, but not the lens. A wintry scene at different hours should be obvious, surely? Just find an appropriate character to tie in with, and Bob's Your Obscure Nineties Game Show for Newlyweds.
ITV's rebrand did Christmas so quietly, I didn't see it until now. Too preoccupied with Netflix-ing itself, I guess. Been bingeing stuff from my youth on ITVX, which is just a silly name, seeming more appropriate for a channel of ITV2's audience than a streaming service. My apocalypse trigger, ITV plc dispensing with Julian's Santa Flashes in 2018, then dumping Julian himself 2 years later. Sky live tracking Mr. Kringle is just not as good. Simple as.
BBC2, Channel 5 and both RTEs are all recycling, the RTE Guide appears to have eschewed celebrities entirely from 2021 onwards, and S4C seems rather uninterested with that POV set they have, which they can't be arsed to execute properly.
So, with a neat nod to 40 years of themselves and their most famous programme other than Countdown, Channel 4 wins by a whisker from BBC1, in what, as I say, is a flat year this time.
Stinger: With UTV in my mind, and still clinging on in trailer graphics and still making local programming, I thought to search for a Christmas clip, and settled on Julian missing his cue 10 years ago:

The end of linear T.V. Not necessary so.
Take for example Saturday 6th May 2023. On that same date. The coronation of King Charles III from 9 A.M. [A full day now] then from 5.30 P.M. [Or later] The 2023 F.A. Cup Final. Both LIVE ion B.B.C 1 and I.T.V. 1. [In the case of the F.A. Cup final same pictuers. Different presenters and commentators. Both of these events need a start time Coronation 9 A.M. F.A. Cup final 5.30 P.M. So in broadcast turns there needs to be a schedule. As they used to say.
Owing to events the death of linear T.V. might be grossly exaggerated!

As I no longer watch traditional terrestrial TV any more, this has been the only time I have seen the Christmas Idents for this year.
Also, judging by what I have seen is being shown this year, aside from Ghosts and Inside Number 9, the festive season is very, very poor in quality.
