@cresentj nah.. it's not really the case for me, ppl need more than 10 episodes to get into such a unique world, they need longer to get to know the characters, and tbh most ppl now who love the show were haters at first, me included. Oda wrote it when he was 17 so obviously his writing will change over time. And approaching water 7 I sensed that change. It's like he went to take a few writing classes then came back to work on his world. I'd still prefer to watch something from episode 1. But you can get away with starting at a later arc, sacrificing the first few seasons, and the show will still hold people's attention.. that should show you how his writing changed for the better over time. Bit hey to each their own I guess
Glad you guys enjoyed this adventure. As an OG OP anime fan I loved it too. I think one of the few complains I have really is the Nami tattoo wasn't explained for new fans. In the anime that tattoo have a great story. I hope that you one day check it out. That aside, I am so happy that this show did not disappoint us. I was so worried when it was announced several years ago, and was dreading it, but the show runners and actors were incredible and thanks to them, new fans like you got to join the crew and the adventure.
@@robinchwan418 Its because of the Orange Windmill, in the anime/manga, the windmill is used by the Leader of Coco Island (Genzo) because Nami loves Windmills.
Ah, the iconic barrel scene. And also the teasing of an iconic character.. 👀 What a fitting ending for the season. When the credits rolled up and "My Sails Are Set" by Aurora started playing.. I got chills. This show is such a love letter by the showrunners & Eiichiro Oda for the One Piece fans. And it also serves as a gateway for new fans to enter this epic world of One Piece. The producers have said that the scripts for season 2 are ready. They can start shooting as soon as the strike is over.
Throughout the series, Zoro and Sanji often get into each other's faces and bicker, but when time comes, when Luffy needs the road cleared for him, those two are often the Sword and Shield that pave the way so their Captain can do what he has to do. It's epic every time. Both of them have a way of saying "Our Captain doesn't need to bother with extras". I'd love to see that in the live action.
Im glad you guys liked Garp. I personally really love him too. I personally found it made sense for his to turn up here cause East Blue is his home and he has influence there. He's such a cool character and you know he loves and is grudgingly proud of his family but also is very much a Marine and a believer of Justice. Pretty complex character. Theres one scene in the manga of him that always makes me tear up and Im hoping if the Live Action ever makes it there that its included.
I always assumed (and it blew my mind that others didn't) that he was in the area to pick up Luffy. Like, there's a reason Luffy left as soon as his birthday and part of it was the promise, but the other was Gramps is coming. Boy was getting the hell out of dodge before he was forcefully enlisted - and Garp was heading towards Goa in order to pick him up (I'm putting money on it). So this adaptation of having Garp chasing Luffy down didn't feel out of place to me - seemed exactly like what Garp would do if he arrived at Fusha village and found Luffy wasn't there to be enlisted. XD
@@7thlittleleopard7 it's like a headcanon for me that it makes sense Garp tries to stop him in East Blue here especially with the line of not calling other Marines for help in a past episode. Can still drag Luffy back and hide his little adventures while in the East Blue where he has influence.

S2 is already in pre-production. I hope the SAG-AFTRA strike doesn't slow it down or delay it. I mean, even Hollywood movies like Deadpool 3 is being delayed because of the strike.
The East Blue Saga is a pretty good start, but the story just keeps getting bigger and better. The next saga is one of my favourite so i really hope that we get a season 2!
As a long time One Piece fan you got to appreciate the casting. They did a wonderful job finding these people for the role. Sometimes the accent throws you a bit but they really know how to play their roles.
I think the reasoning for Sanji solely using kicks is because he doesn't want to risk his hands. He's a chef, his hands are his life. So he fights only using kicks so he never has to worry about his hands getting injured.
It was really fun to watch y'all's reactions! Looks like they've got scripts ready and are set to start filming as soon as the strike ends, so we might be able to get season 2 as soon as 1 year to 18 months from now! If you guys decide to start the anime, I recommend going the English subtitle route as the voice acting is just better, in my humble opinion. (cool fact, they actually use the original voice actors from the anime on this live action adaptation for the Japanese dub!)
Yeah those of us familiar with One Piece recognized Smokey their at the end. I gotta say as a long time fan of One Piece when the iconic OP theme “We Are” started playing after they all made the promises to achieve their dreams(in what is a pretty iconic scene from the story itself) I teared up a little. Just fantastic stuff.
27:40 youre very right. For example, the Garp and Zeff conversation in ep 7 is extremely fitting for the 2 characters and the world of One Piece, where the New Generation theme is super important. Its honestly my favorite moment of the Live Action, and it was not even in the manga, in fact Garp and Zeff never met. Thats what happens when the directors and the mangaka work together to be loyal to the source material.
It's wild how beloved ALL of these characters become in just 8 short episodes. So excited to laugh and cry with these characters for seasons and seasons.

This live action take on the series is so true to the beating heart of One Piece, and it did so much right. Whatever way you both choose to continue your One Piece journey, we're here for it.

They also said that it’s possible that we could see a season 2 air as soon as 12 to 18 months after the strikes end!
This adaptation was amazing it broke so many live action curses we’re so used to and I can’t wait for season 2 since it was confirmed to be already written, but part of me is sad knowing the live action will probably never finish the story of one piece, I think it would take far too long and cost too much money for Netflix but who knows, I hope it continues to go on for as long as it can and keep the same level of quality and integrity
I can see them finishing it, one piece is more popular than its ever been and season 1 was a huge success. As long as the one piece hype doesnt die we should be okay

Zeff was called ‘Red Leg Zeff’ because he fought with his legs 😊 As a chef, they have to take care of their hands and arms, so he taught Sanji how to fight using legs only 🎉
If you do end up watching the anime, I do recommend that you watch it from the beginning, because there were quite a few characters/subplots that were either changed or removed. The overall plot was mostly the same, but it’ll still probably feel like a new experience
problem with anime is the first few hundred episodes can be sometimes really long, with streched and boring pacing by todays standards, which was normal for animes at the time, i wanted to rewatch it but cant find time to do it, might start reading manga cause you can go trough chapters really fast
19:06 The song that plays is Nami's theme: "My Sails Are Set" Talk about Nami, her dreams and the adventure that awaits her as the navigator. In the lyrics I could notice some things that refer to future arcs, It's beautiful music
I love Luffy at the end of this episode. He finally got himself on a wanted poster, he got his ship and his crew, and his very own jolly roger sail. His dreams are finally coming true, and he's just so incredibly happy.
This is what happens when the people working on the show loves and respect the source material and involves the author of the manga itself. I saw many changes they've made in the live action, but the changes made sense because there are some aspect of anime you just can't translate into live action, and they know that. One thing I liked the most in the live action is how they made Zoro so sassy and Sanji changed into a rizz boi rather than simp boi. And the cast is perfect.
As a One Piece Fans or as a Nakama of One Piece.. i'm happy to see u watch this LA version.. both of u should watch the anine or read manga.. because there is still a lot of excitement in it.. ❤❤❤
According to Variety, the scripts for a potential Season Two are already ready to go. Though production is stalled due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the studio's president Becky Clements revealed that more episodes could arrive just a year's out from any negotiation.
I'm worried about the CGI for chopper though especially considering he is gonna have a lot of screen time and even shows like game of thrones had problems making the dragons I can only imagine how expensive the next season is going to be it is almost unfair honestly
The story is good because Oda knows how to make an introduction with back stories and you grow with the crew. It also remind us of our lost dreams and seeing them pursue theirs brings great joy to us.
That guy (at the end credits) is gonna replace Garp's role for next season which is probably gonna cover Alabasta arc and Crocodile of Baroque works (teased in EP1) is going to be the main villain and actually strings better in the original manga rather than Arlong sniffing around the whole East Blue Saga.
Loved your reactions to these live action episodes guys! if you start watching the anime or read the manga you will definitely not regret it and you will also get a whole new fan base who'll be looking forward to your genuine reactions!
24:20 The music that plays in the background is an orchestral rendition of "We Are!" Which is One Piece's first anime opening when the anime first premiered
If you guys want to keep the live action fresh, you can watch the anime up to episode 45. I'm sure many people (like me) at this time especially would love to see your reactions to the anime after finishing the live action and hear your thoughts about the differences from the live action to anime instead! Season 2 most likely will take at least 2 years to come out anyways lol.
Been following you guys for a while and seeing you experience my favourite fictional world has been a blast. The live action absolutely nailed the appeal of One Piece, from the lovable characters with back stories that explain their actions, to the insane world building, to the perfect balance of goofy and dark, wholesome and tragic, and there's still even more to come. Even if it's not on the channel I do hope you guys catch up on the series some day, almost 1100 chapters in and it's still currently some of the best it has to offer.
I loved your reaction. It so much fun watching people get into One piece. The only other live action anime that i have seen that was any good was Alita Battle Angel. I highly recommend it.
Always good to see new people enjoy One Piece in any format, even cooler to see those with no experience with the story reacting in the same way to the live action as those of use who have read the manga and/or watched the Anime. As many will tell you, I highly recommend the Anime, the length seems daunting at first and before you know it you'll be 300-400 episodes deep. The key is don't rush the anime, take it at whatever pace feels comfortable and never forget first and foremost One Piece is about the journey not the destination.
You should watch the anime because watching the live action feels a little different and i think youll love it even more when you know the story. Us seeing it come to life has been everything
Honestly, even if they want to go on for season 2, considering now how popular it is, there are still tons of technical challenges to tackle in order for the adaptation to be good, not to mention how long it takes. I would love to because the actors are so good. But the technical challenges just keep exponentially multiplying as the story goes on. If you think East Blue saga is good, the stories after just get better and better you can't even imagine like you said, wholesome and deep. I just can't fathom how Oda can do more than 1,000 chapters and still outdo himself for each arc he wrote.
Those french names are french names for parts of the meat, things like neck, breast, shoulder, ribs. Sanji's named the attacks after the parts he's hitting. It's his iconic Black Leg Style.
I am really happy you enjoyed the adapatation, if you liked the world construction, i recommend watching the anime too. It could be slower if you compare how they put an entire arc in just 8 chapters, but maybe you will get even more hints and puzzles and questions with the show and enjoy as well n.n
I always say anime is just a medium to tell a story, as much as other medium like TV dramas, movies, novels. One Piece is just a good story, well written characters and great world building. It will attract people nor matter what medium it is in.
What good in this series is it's really an adventure they don't go back again to one place compared to other series/anime. They just keep going and going to different places and their opponents keeps getting stronger as well along the way which makes it very interesting.
Thank you for enjoying this great journey with us, I love One Piece more than anything and this live action is simply my new passion. I can recommend watching the first arc, which is about 60 episodes. This way you can enjoy more in-depth comparisons and see the story in more detail. ❤
22:20 Hair of the dog - at least my grandfather tried to make it look like he was trying to sober up by adding a raw egg to his beer in the morning. Or adding some variety and just having raw egg in tomato juice.
Sanji learned to fight, primarily with his feet, from Zeff who was known to be so good at fighting with his feet that his boots were always red with blood (this was mentioned when they first explained Zeff was a pirate).
5:29 It wasn't explicitly said I guess, but you guys remember Red Leg Zef's reputation of always having the blood of his enemies on his boots? I think it was meant to imply that his kicks are deadly. And in turn, you can also imagine how Sanji turned out to be that kind of fighter.

Fun reaction series, glad you guys enjoyed (and kinda hope you get impatient and jump straight into the anime/manga lol) One of my favourite manga series, Yu Yu Hakusho is getting a Netflix adaptation. Hoping they get it right
Well they did change a lot with Coco Village location since it was supposed to be tropical Island with lots of palm trees thats why its called CoCo village
This adaptation really did the Manga/Anime justice, even with the minor changes they had to make it still had the soul of One Piece. I hope you decide to check out the Anime one day, cuz it is really good. I know having over 1000 episodes can scare most people, but trust me, once you get into the show those 1000+ episodes will be over before you know it and you'll complain it's too short. We all went through that.
Sanji's moves are targets he's gonna hit like Epaulets is French for shoulder and Collier for neck etc. Creators already said the script is ready for S2 and when the strike is over it would take around 12 to 18 months for S2.
Highly recommend watching the anime i love you guys and you can't fault Garp because regardless of reason for becoming a pirate it's very dangerous it's like your kid saying they want to become a bandit and your an outlaw
Why not watch the anime till the point where the live action ends? Its around episode 45 of the anime. You get some extra information from the anime, learn more about the villains and stuff + you have some One Piece stuff until Season 2
Watching you watch this, I can say you've definitely had a One Piece experience. Like, to you, this felt very similar to the way a lot of anime watchers and manga readers felt the first time we enjoyed One Piece. Seeing a live action adaptation do that is kind of incredible. I hope it gets a season 2 and I hope season 2 is somehow as good as this. The source material is even better, but also even harder to adapt. Whatever happens it'll probably be at least 2 years though, and that's ignoring the strikes going on :( Thank you for reacting to this. It's been a joy.
The fact that they, a newcomer to OP, nailed every little details and nuance like for example "Luffy and Usopp shares the same braincells" within just a few episodes of live action, I think that's enough proof that this live action is succesful in terms of adapting the original source. Never thought I'm gonna defending Netflix, but credits given where it's due.
If you really want to continue the story, I recommend watching One Pace. One Pace is a condensed version of the anime with no fillers and unnecessary recaps.
if you guys want another really good live action adaptation i STRONGLY recommend rurouni kenshin movies (there's 5 in total), they're very emotional and the fighting choreography is amazing (especially in the last one), for an added bonus the actor that plays Zoro (Mackenyu) plays the antagonist Enishi for the last movie so you'd see some more of what he's capable of (he did his own stunts) edit: if you decide to do it please watch the original in japanese with english subs rather than watching the dubbed version, i feel like a lot of emotion gets lost when dubbing movies

Yeah there's always that odd person that's like "I needed to watch 600 episodes before I got into one piece" but honestly if people don't like it at the start, theres no point forcing them till Stockholm syndrome takes hold. There's plenty of other things they could be watching that doesn't require them to force themselves to get into.
The "it doesn't get good till" statement is so lame.
Isn't her tattoo means that she was a part of Arlong crew? A sign of their allegiance? They included it though

Did the anime do the same thing in teasing Smoker?

Strike? what strike?
Throughout the series, Zoro and Sanji often get into each other's faces and bicker, but when time comes, when Luffy needs the road cleared for him, those two are often the Sword and Shield that pave the way so their Captain can do what he has to do. It's epic every time. Both of them have a way of saying "Our Captain doesn't need to bother with extras". I'd love to see that in the live action.
Glad you enjoyed it guys☺️
Whether you wait for the new season (hopefully) of the Live Action or deep your feet into the world of OP anime/manga. As a fan, I'm glad you enjoyed the story many of us love and adore.
Either way, enjoy the series the way you want to enjoy it, and thanks for sharing your reactions with us.
Fair winds on your adventure!
i mean netflix (co?) ceo already confirmed season 1 was a success, and the script for s2 has been written so its just left to waiting for netflix to green light it and the writers strike to end
The next saga is one of my favourite so i really hope that we get a season 2!
we are getting season 2:)
As a long time One Piece fan you got to appreciate the casting. They did a wonderful job finding these people for the role. Sometimes the accent throws you a bit but they really know how to play their roles.

Literally my favorite moment in the whole series
Somehow they handled it so well, usually it ends up being cringe but no, it's not

I think the reasoning for Sanji solely using kicks is because he doesn't want to risk his hands. He's a chef, his hands are his life. So he fights only using kicks so he never has to worry about his hands getting injured.
Also Zeff was mainly using his leg and Sanji just learned that from him
yeap. this directly sayd in amine.
Yes, that's how it is in the anime.
So excited to laugh and cry with these characters for seasons and seasons.
the live action is so refreshing! even as someone who've been following one piece in the manga and the anime, this live action is still amazed me..
I've loved One Piece for 6 years now, and I loved this Live Action
Some producers of the Live Action said that Season 2 has been written already and if the 2nd season gets greenlit we could see it in 12-18 months after the writers strike

It's always a joy to see people get into One Piece. I'm pretty new to it myself, I started it 2.5 years ago. It's honestly an amazing anime and manga. This live action take on the series is so true to the beating heart of One Piece, and it did so much right. Whatever way you both choose to continue your One Piece journey, we're here for it.
Some good potential news about when to expect a season 2! The producers have said they already have the scripts for season 2 and so they are ready to start working on season 2 as soon as the writer’s and actor’s strikes end. They also said that it’s possible that we could see a season 2 air as soon as 12 to 18 months after the strikes end!
I say move the production instead, it's not like Hollywood gets better over the years, and they strike so often.

If you do end up watching the anime, I do recommend that you watch it from the beginning, because there were quite a few characters/subplots that were either changed or removed. The overall plot was mostly the same, but it’ll still probably feel like a new experience

It's beautiful music
I love Luffy at the end of this episode. He finally got himself on a wanted poster, he got his ship and his crew, and his very own jolly roger sail.
His dreams are finally coming true, and he's just so incredibly happy.
Enjoy the prologue, the adventure is just started.
They nailed it when Luffy did the battle axe it's crazy🎉

According to Variety, the scripts for a potential Season Two are already ready to go. Though production is stalled due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the studio's president Becky Clements revealed that more episodes could arrive just a year's out from any negotiation.
I hope there is a second season. I really want to see them meet the 5th crew member. He is one of my favorites.
I'm worried about the CGI for chopper though especially considering he is gonna have a lot of screen time and even shows like game of thrones had problems making the dragons I can only imagine how expensive the next season is going to be it is almost unfair honestly

"Red leg Zeff" taught Sanji which is why he always kicks. Not sure they said it but he gets called black leg Sanji, pretty badass
I watched this with the Dos. You two are perfect together..... Loved watching both of you experience one price
Thank you for all the laughs! Hope you start the journey into the anime. & nice new set up. 👌
Those french names are french names for parts of the meat, things like neck, breast, shoulder, ribs. Sanji's named the attacks after the parts he's hitting. It's his iconic Black Leg Style.

I’ve never seen anyone not affected by the barrel scene at the end. It’s so perfect that they intercut it with their kid selves. A great touch!
I always say anime is just a medium to tell a story, as much as other medium like TV dramas, movies, novels. One Piece is just a good story, well written characters and great world building. It will attract people nor matter what medium it is in.

This adaptation really did the Manga/Anime justice, even with the minor changes they had to make it still had the soul of One Piece. I hope you decide to check out the Anime one day, cuz it is really good.
Whatever happens it'll probably be at least 2 years though, and that's ignoring the strikes going on :(
Thank you for reacting to this.
And now we wait two or more years

Both of you are so likeable, it's nuts.
if you guys want another really good live action adaptation i STRONGLY recommend rurouni kenshin movies (there's 5 in total), they're very emotional and the fighting choreography is amazing (especially in the last one), for an added bonus the actor that plays Zoro (Mackenyu) plays the antagonist Enishi for the last movie so you'd see some more of what he's capable of (he did his own stunts)
edit: if you decide to do it please watch the original in japanese with english subs rather than watching the dubbed version, i feel like a lot of emotion gets lost when dubbing movies
