Thanks for such a thorough review. I'm considering buying one of these to use at work and this is the only video I've found that goes into sufficent detail about all the features - including those on Karrimors own channel! Cheers.
Really interested in the Thor 40 for an overnight pack. Do the Karrimor SF Nordic 7 litre pouches fit on the side? Just in case I want to expand the volume
Good video thanks, just purchased a Thor 40 having seen this. Does anyone know if the Magni 25 has molle on the base as that would be useful as I am thinking of buying one of those to keep in the car with some kit for emergencies/get home?
Great to hear, thank you. Out of interest, would you mind sharing where you bought your Thor 40? The Magni has laser-cut MOLLE on the back panel and sides but not on the base. Being exceptionally nosey, what were you thinking of attaching? I use a Modi 15 as my 'grab-bag' in the car and for my needs it's just about right - but obviously we all carry different kit. Summarising, I carry a trauma kit, water, emergency light ( emergencyprotection.co.uk/product/safety-lights-red-blue/ ), torch, disposable poncho, hi-vis tabard, tiny power-pack, some kind of food bars, notepad and pen, woolly hat, a small bundle of paracord and some cash - just enough to keep me comfortable if I'm delayed anywhere, to provide an elect of safety if I need it, or to give assistance if I come across an incident. The clamshell opening design of any of the Karrimor SF Nordic packs makes them a god choice for emergency bags because it's easy to compartmentalise and then access kit (I think I mention in the video that I used the Thor as my response pack when on a rescue team in the Arctic) I hope that helps, but drop me a line any time if you need more information. @@ExplorerJust Thank you, I'll get some small straps placed onto the bottom then when it arrives, probably drop it into Jay Jays in Brecon. Perhaps advise KSF adding molle to the base might be useful? I wanted to place a dry bag with a basic sleep system within it or add a place to attach my Litefighter shelter in it's cary bag. I don't always need a large pack as I run an Arktis smock with planty of kit within that to see you through a pinch, so a smalll pack is useful for a day or two and lighter fast moving stuff. Agree on the Nordic range access is excellent and as much as I loved my old Sabre 45 the Thor is easier to manage kit (acces being the key design factor there). I purchased my Thor 40 in multicam from Kit Monster in Tunbridge Wells, Kent (online with some other items, we don't live in Kent). We also have a Odin in multicam that is used on longer term treks out and about in Winter...... along with a collection of older DPM/olive kit from a previous life that probably won't see the light again unless it's a crisis situation. The Magni sounds like a good option for the car, I will have a similar load out most of the time to you as it's not a tactical choice but we live in the sticks and if I had to walk back or stay away in the event of a problem it will hold enough kit to keep me going up to 72hrs. I wanted to add the sleep/shelter section because if I had to walk back home it's always going to be overnight and while a bivi might do I wanted the option to deal with winter weather which can be cold in this part of the UK certain times of the year. Likewise a little more food than the smock allows! Thank you for your response and look forward to seeing more videos.
@@ExplorerJustWhat would my options be if i wanted to add side pouches to the THOR40? 20-25 extra liters would be lovely. The THOR40 is really the only one i want to go with. I can't seem to find the answer on their website..
@@TomahawkActual The Thor isn't PLCE compatible, but it does have webbing for MOLLE. This won't give you the 25L that you want, but it can expand the load carrying capacity of the pack. The video link I sent in my last reply gives one option, or look at the MOLLE pouches on the website. Or, if you're requirement for an additional 25L a permanent you could look at the Odin 75. The Odin 75 (75L) is from the same Nordic range so has the same 'clamshell opening' design.
I need to stop looking at all the SF Karrimor packs you show. Or get a higher paying job... lol This looks a stonkingly good pack to run alongside my SF Predator 30 & 45. #mykarrimorsf
No, buy them all! Both the Pred 30 and 45 are fantastic packs, and in real terms the Thor 40 wouldn't really provide you with any differentiator other than the clamshell opening design. However, it appears that you have a gap in your pack collection for an Odin 75... similar Thor, but built for multi-day use - go for it ;-)
@@ExplorerJust TBH, I don’t need a 75lt pack. 66 would be my top end capacity nowadays. The more knowledge you have, the less you need to carry. And I don’t carry the kitchen sink anymore 😁
Hi All Karrimor SF products are constantly evolving according to feedback from clients, from disruptive changes such as the introduction of the Nordic range with the clamshell opening, to smaller, more incremental innovations such as those in materials and features. The Thor 40 was developed to fulfil a particular military contract with a specific design brief. The original packs (like mine) had the quick release clip on the harness. As the product was used in the field it became apparent that the quick-release buckle wasn't required and in fact 'squeaked' in use, so the latest incarnation of the Thor 40 is manufactured without this clip.
I recently bought a Thor 40 , and it doesn’t have the quick release option on the strap that you refer to. Am I missing something, or does the latest model not have that option. I bought it a few weeks ago from Heinnie Haines here in the UK.
Hi, thanks for dropping in. My pack was one of the earlier versions, and the latest versions don't have that particular feature. Thanks for dropping Heinnie Haynes too - it's always interesting to find out where people are buying them
Thanks for posting such a thorough and high quality review of this. It looks like a cracking rucksack.
Thank you, for taking the time to watch it! If you have any questions just drop me a line.

They'll fit, but it won't create a totally snug 'rattle free' connection

Is it compatible with their sabre side pockets?
Hi! No, it isn't. However, if you wanted to add side pockets you could do this ua-cam.com/video/gdVP9tSS_Xw/v-deo.html

Is it made in UK? Or any other countries like China or Vietnam?
No, it's not made in the UK. They are designed in the UK and manufactured in Vietnam
Werid, My Thor 40, came without the quick release tab. I was kinda cross about it tbh.
