Sounds amazing and it's great to see you guys branching out. Personally, I would love a video (or more info on the site) covering some real basic FAQ type questions for someone like me who has never done it before. How does it work? Where do I sleep? What do I wear? What's an average LARP day look like? Are there NPCs/quests/battles etc? It sounds like something I would want to try but tbh I saw cost of general admission and my immediate thought was "£100 to stand around in a field for 3 days?"
@@evilscary I would imagine it is a way to ensure the people coming are going to commit and get involved. If you made it £20, almost anyone might turn up, some of which might not be that interested and could ruin the vibe for others.
@@DeanTheDMsure, but Empire is an established entity, with a proven rules system and loyal audience, as are the other fest-larps of this scale (Curious Pastimes and Lorien Trust), each of which runs for around £80 a weekend.
Really happy to see you working on a passion-project like this! Larp _is_ something I'm interested in but also conversely don't really know much about in any kind of detail, so this is very useful!
I genuinely wish you guys the best in this endeavor. This is definitely a huge undertaking and while I know you'll succeed in some capacity ya'll are gonna jinx yourselves with all the LARP 2.0 talk even if it is just bants
This isn't a Shlog this is a Glog (Glorious Vlog). This certainly is not what I was expecting from the secret project but it is cool as hell! Good luck with this guys!
Sounds like a fantastic venture for you lads and I look forward to seeing it all come together. LARP is something I've always been interested in but sadly due to PTSD, social anxiety, depression and recently added to the list kidney failure, it's not something I can really partake in. So I'll be living the experience vicariously through you 3 legends. Keep up the good work.
I have those things apart from kidney failure. I am recovering from cancer though and I still larp. The good thing about larp fest systems is that you can do as much and as little as you want.
This is the sort of content I like to see you guys put out, just genuinely your passions. Also, kinda going into a new business adventure is exciting too
I recommend trying to use Ross'es questions also to help proofread rules, so that you can identify what phrases/words players stumble on. For me, it was moving from cosplay to larp and with no frame of reference for what a "physrep" was.
i don't really see myself larping let alone in the uk but I like to watch this. the setting seems really interesting. I hope there will be much more content for those admiring the magic from the outside as well
boys this is so fucking cool. you lads and the awesome team at menhirs fate should be so proud of yourself - this has really made me want to get involved in it, as i definitely experienced the issue you mentioned of how do you actually get involved. so proud of you boys 💖
haven't been to eyelarp for a few years and it's so cool seeing how much the site has progressed! pumped to hear about this project, it sounds amazing!
This is exactly the kick I needed to start LARPing. I'm going to book the dates off work tomorrow, and buy some tickets. See you there! I'm very excited
As sombody who has been trying to get into a larp system for many years now and being annoyed by feeling like I’m trying to break into pre-existing groups of people who don’t like sharing plot with others, the possibility of getting in on the ground floor of a new profesional looking Festival larp is very interesting.
Love it! I sincerely hope that this venture pays dividends for you and everyone else involved, not just monetarily, but- most importantly- with the community (even ALL related communities). While I have zero LARP opportunities anywhere near where I live, I hope to partially live the experience through your continued videos. Cheers, boiks!
I'm not in the part of the globe to participate but I'm excited for your new venture and will be watching whatever content you put online! I've never done larp before so I'm going to learn with Ross.
These zoomers with their fantasy boffer LARPs! Back in *my* day, we'd hang out on college campuses or in parking lots, smoking cloves in our trenchcoats and fingerless gloves, being vampires or wereweolves and fiercely emoting at each other. This does look fun, though, but it's the wrong continent for me to attend. 😭
I feel like I'm the exact target demographic for this. I've been wanting to get into Larp for many years and have planned to go to Empire etc. but never actually followed through. A fresh Larp where everyone is starting on more-or-less equal footing would be amazing! Definitely interested in this project, boiks EDIT: Holy shit, I've just seen that the site is basically just down the road from me too! It's a 20 minute drive (I even have a mate who lives in the closest village). Will certainly have to go to this!
Really stoked ta see the boiks getting to do be a big part of something like this & contribute to a big event that they feel passionate about and in a way ta help get other people into it!
Calling it now, there's gonna be *AT LEAST* one Hat Films fanatic at that festival that didn't listen to the "Don't come for us, come for the LARP" instruction
More like 50 fanatic i’m going to do it if there’s not at least 100 people that don’t understand it, I’ll be shocked i’ll be honest I’ve tried going to Empire didn’t enjoy it but that was mostly because everybody seem to know what they were doing, except me and there was no way easy OnRamp for people who don’t know what they doing but I know the boys love the hobby, so I’m tempted to give it another a try again and if I see them, I’ll just be watching them for a distance
Very cool to see. Sadly i'm in America and just can't afford the expense to regularly travel to the UK (although I am planning to visit either 2025 or 2026), especially as I would choose to be in the Syradonia nation. Making some paladin type armor with backlit LEDs, crystals, and glow in the dark+metallic paint would just be epic but freakn expensive. If I do something I go all out. I can't half way do something. Hopefully you can post videos of the events. Like a live action Shadows of Israphel for youtube and or streaming.
Can't say LARP is my kind of thing, but I'm really happy for you, boiks. I hope it's all a massive success, and it's wonderful to see you do a passion project. Hope we get to see more behind the scenes stuff, maybe it'll open my eyes to it. Who knows.
Yall should really get with this Channel called "Skill Tree"!! It is an American based channel however its a channel designed to teach people how to make Larp type things in very easy ways, without expensiver tools. They recently were a huge part of a Large Popular Larp that took place in Germany and brought a ton of people to it form all over.
genuinely feels like a proud moment seeing all this. even if ive never considered larping and before. I'm fascinated in the psych and sociology side of things!!!
This is so exciting and I'm so pleased for you guys! I've always been LARP-curious, but not confident enough to attend. I can't wait for all the content though!
As a fan from the US I'll be happily following along! Would be cool to get a travel vlog style video out of this venture. However you do it I believe in your creative energy and drive!
Congrats guys! I wish you success in your endeavors! I'm quite happy you all are doing more than video games! I've been thinking that needs to happen for a while now!
Oh damn, I really hope I'll be able to come to this. Looks incredibly exciting and the possibilities feel endless because of it being brand spanking new!
Wow, that's awesome! These shots you've shared already look amazing, both in filming quality and in terms of like, outfits and setting! Seems pretty exciting for those who enjoy it! I don't think LARPing is really my thing (tho I'm not in the UK anyways lol) but I always love behind the scenes stuff, and these forest settings you guys are in look gorgeous, so I'd of course always be up for vlogs like this one! Also, gotta say, love Smith just crouching in the forest like bigfoot, followed by him just casually exiting a bush, haha
Looks great! I'm a novice larper also, I've only played in an online larp and haven't ventured into a field yet! While fest larps don't really seem like my kind of vibe, its really cool to see what you guys are making here.
Never been larping but I've always always wanted to try it, however I've always found it so hard to know where or how to start so this is like a golden ticket opportunity for me! The excitement is untameable, well done lads 🙌
Can't wait for all the Menhirs Fate youtube and Netflix exposés 😂😂 Just joking, hope this is successful. I've never done LARP so its a bit outside my wheelhouse for me to personally get invested in.
I love this idea. Wanted to get into this for ages, but hard to do! LARPs seem hard to get to from my neck of the woods. There is indeed not enough of it in the UK!

2 Nights of camping *without* a fantasy world is like £50-80. The premise of big larps like this is that you get a lot of game for being there.
I'm happy to see them make this type of content, and also to be involved in 'real' things!
Having met Smith at MCM and chatting to him and hearing about this, I for one have been looking forward to this!

Have you considered trying online larps? They can be much easier in some ways - no stress of travel, easier to stay comfortable and drop in/out.

I haven't been to a LARP since around 2000/2001...
But I'm VERY tempted now.
