Breathtakingly beautiful sounds! Nobuyuki's crystal pure sounds trully moves me with tears even after listening to it manyy times... fresh heatache everytime.
Conlon did this inspiring pianist NO FAVORS. Conlon's was a disgraceful display of unkindness. For anyone who plays, the close to the keyboard technique Mr Tsujii must employ may somewhat curb the sheer power, but this is so small a caveat when compared with the lyricism displayed. This is a MATURE performance, especially under competition conditions, a refreshing change from the "off to the races" approach too often heard. God has blessed him, but imagine the hard work that went into this.
@castout888 I am really disppointed with Maestro Conlon here...he seems to have his own agenda at play and his players are winsome to even dare to get back on track. I hope he has better days in the opera house.
@spiritualhealingct Annnnnd YOU sir, is what is wrong with classical music and its listeners today. No, he is not Rubenstein, no, he is not Horovitz. He is Nobuyuki Tsujii, a blind Japanese pianist who fell in love with the piano when he could barely walk and made that his entire life. Perhaps you don't find his performance very riveting, but I, along with plenty of other viewers have evidently found this performance to be absolutely captivating.
As the previous post stated, orchestra was way too fast going at the most important bit . Nobu managed the last movement beautifully and it doesn't take anything negative from his performance but for the entire concerto, the pitch was way off. You can NOT carry this last movement in such a hyped fast pitch. In addition, Conlon told the one of the former orchestra member that it was such a difficult and cumbersome task to perform with Nobu {because he is blind}. Apparently, he had very little appreciation for his natural talent. If anyone watched the segment of practice with Conlon and Nobu prior to the final, he mentioned to Nobu " this is the part that the Pianist and the conductor would normally eye-catch the que in the normal setting". I found Conlon's direct comment of such to Nobu utterly offensive, unkind and unnecessary.
I agree with you totally. I watched two of them's rehearsal video, then Conlon was telling him to count in his head to be harmonized into the orchestra. but the assistant(?) of Nobu told Conlon that Nobu is always listening breathing of conductor so it'll be more confusing for him to count in his mind. "just let him feel your breath." So according to whole back ground of this situation, Conlon was not mature enough to understand genuine music. whether Conlon was intended to be messing or not, he proved that he is not a great conductor by himself to performed this kind of such a mess concert after all. Juries noticed that, I think.
What is wrong with the conductor? Does he have such a big head that he refuses to follow the soloist? At the close of the 3rd movement (4:24) you could tell that Nobuyuki wanted to take it slower and had to speed up to catch up with the orchestra - absolutely ridiculous and disrepectful to ignore his choice of interpretation. Saying that, at least he didn't just fuck up the entry like he did in Yeol Eum Son's Prokofiev 2..,there was nearly a full minute of the orchestra playing a beat off -_- What a joke.
@spiritualhealingct The point of it all is that at least for myself and plenty others, his performance of this piece hit that spot emotionally where feelings are experienced that are beyond our immediate understanding. For you to arrogantly bombast about how boring you found it and thought it was the most expressionless performance ever is a flat out insult to everyone who legitimately connected with this performance.
@spiritualhealingct I'm going to have to disagree with your critique as it wasn't an unbiased critique, but a very biased opinion. Constructive criticism is one thing and an opinion is another. By putting your opinion here, expect yourself to defend your opinion. Attacks to users don't strengthen your opinion nor is your criticism a well thought out one.

satyu131089 Well you have a blind man and a white dude that can't speak Japanese. If you watch their practice videos it's pretty frustrating even as a third party.
Breathtakingly beautiful sounds!
Nobuyuki's crystal pure sounds trully moves me with tears even after listening to it manyy times... fresh heatache everytime.
so beautiful
Every time I listen to his play at final of this competitions, I cry. His play moves my soul.
me to!
Beautiful !

I cried like a baby to this last night at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester - amazing performance!!
He is a gift from God! What a superb unbelievable miracle talent!
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Incredibly honest and direct music! Truly from his heart!
Gran pianista. La interpretación. INCOMPARABLE
just listen to that MELODY! How beautifully played....!!!!!!!
this made me cry! amazing....just amazing

This is beautiful. He seems so happy and full of life and joy. I hope he's a Christian because he looks like he is filled with Gods love.
thank God! what a heart! what a divine sense for sound universe! thank you for Nobu`
s mother!
That finale... absolutely jaw-dropping. Wow.

HE CAN HEAR THE DIRECTOR'S BREATHING!!
ISNT IT AWESOME WHAT THE HUMAN IS AVALABLE TO DO???
Mind blowing Y.Y

@13PUR1LA Indeed, the infinite loving face of God shines from within this blessed soul...

Does the conductor have ears?
Why stop the video so abruptly after the performance?

But I don't know who ruined it.. The conductor or the pianist..But some important places were out of sync..
