I went out and got my first helmet and jacket today!!! The journey begins
@@SirSpinalColumn I got an awesome HJC IS-max2 helmet and I love it!! Can't wait to actually ride now lol
Good start! Better than buying the bike first.
Ride safe and enjoy

@Paul Barrick What Jacket did you buy?
I'm gonna talk about my little experience here. I'm 26 now but at 8 i had an accident with my uncle in a dirt bike and i lost memory and conciousness. For so many years i always saw motorcycles on the road and thought about how awesome should be able to get one even after what happened when i was a kid. Fast forward to a few months ago, i just decided i wanted one, so i went to the dealership and got a brand new yamaha xsr700. And I can't express how happy i am now, how relaxed i feel, I'm not in a bad mood all the time. It changed the way i see life too. So, for all the guys in the channel waiting to get one, just be patient and get it when you can afford it, be smart about your decisions but don't give up on getting one, i hope it changes your life too as it did with me.
Same feeling with weightlifting. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
How are you doing? Is the XSR700 a good beginner bike? I want one but I'm scared it would be too much.
@@xav_crack yeah, as a beginner you have to respect the bike, it has a lot of torque, so you have to be gentle with the throttle if you're learning how to ride in that bike, I'll highly suggest if you've never driven a manual car or a motorcycle to go to a msf course, learn the basics first and then go to your xsr and practice before going into the streets. That's what i did, and it's been two years with the motorcycle and i don't regret my purchase or the decision to start riding. If you buy it keep in touch so we can share our mods 😊
Hello! I'm actually someone who is also aspiring to get a motorcycle one day. I started off with tiny power-wheels cars, all the way to little pocket mod that I have now. I've always loved to drive vehicles, and I hope that one day I can own a motorcycle of my own!

If a paragraph explaining about me isn’t enough, maybe we should all write yammie pages and pages of back history on our lives to have him help decide which 2 wheeled death machine to buy!
Chris Breezy Could be a fun podcast! Lol
Yammie giving motorcycle buying tips around tax time, I see what you’re doing
Guys. Buy a bike cheap, you can do it in college but it has to be cheap. You can find nice bikes for under 2 grand. My 99 Honda Magna 750 (second bike) was $1,750. Fun, good condition, powerful, and handles very well. You don’t have to get brand new whatsoever. You just have to be smart about it all. I just bought my third bike, an ‘01 R6 with 9,900 miles on it for $4,000. I got my first bike at 19, second at 20, third at 22. You can do it. Just be smart and everyone can get into the saddle!
I’m glad you covered this topic. I was able to hold of on buying a motorcycle until I was in the Navy and handling my own finances. A teenager would definitely have to factor in insurance and available riding weather because it really sucks when you are making payments on something that is sitting in the garage for 4 months out of the year. Routine maintenance gets pricey also. It’s supposed to be 50 degrees in Chicago tomorrow, I am going to ride!!!!
when you're me, and 2 wheels is cheaper than public transport answer is yes. :-P
I’m a 19 year old college student and I bought a CB300R and it’s amazing I graduate in a year and I just couldn’t wait
Tips unclear, bought a BUSA!
Hey Yammie, I found your channel a couple weeks ago and it definitely got me back in my feels for being on two wheels again. Found a 07 GSXR600 , 14k miles , never been dropped, bunch of replaced stuff for $4,000. Your channel has become my go to for two reasons, you have a great sense of humor and you’re down to earth with wise information for riders of all experience levels. Keep up the great work. 👍
I'm currently still on my first bike, I bought a 2006 HD Dyna that had a couple nice ergonomic mods and I'm loving every mile!

Tons of great advice here. Figured I would share my story. I got the itch to learn to ride in June and bought a 1992 Kawi 250 to learn on for $1300 after watching every video on UA-cam about beginner bikes. It served me well but more importantly it taught me to ride. I just sold it in December and picked up a new 2019 Z400 for $5k. I put 1k down and got a 4k loan @ 7% interest. My monthly payments are $87
Been watching your channel for a couple of years while dreaming about having a bike and now finally talked my fiancée into letting me get a bike. Just got a 14’ Honda CTX700n today. Thanks for your content and wisdom!
I'm 42 working in the IT industry, so I'm at that place where I can shop for pretty much anything I want but it doesn't mean I would just buy anything. For my first bike I'm thinking of staying within 10k
bought my first motorcycle at 18, was a waiter and lifeguard on and off through highschool. bought a new 2017 crf250l, modded it a bit since then. I absolutely love it, ride it all winter. If you save up some cash and get an affordable bike its not too hard. Wouldnt trade my motorcycle for anything!!
I would also let them know about the initial costs like helmets, gloves, leathers etc... That stuff gets expensive
I use a bike as my only vehicle and it saves me tons of money.. insurance costs less than any car I've had, gas mileage is great and most importantly, I can work on it myself. Simplicity was king and the rebel250 seemed like it would suite my needs well. Found a good as new 09 with 1500 miles for 1400. Great bike! I don't really care to speed but it's still fun and fast enough for me.
I feel like all these people who keep asking what to buy haven't stepped into a shop and sat on them sitting on them getting an overall feel is the way to go pick a top 3 and pull the trigger on one yammie has already said go in and sit on bikes that's usually the best way to see which bike speaks to you along with that keep to a smaller engine dont go 1000 if you're no not that it's not possible it's just a larger engine is less forgiving stay safe out there bros and ride on
Black Lavender yeah tbh best thing you can do is go see em in person, see what you think. Sit on them, look at them, score a test ride if possible.
Been watching for a while.... Just got my own bike today! It's a 2014 Honda cb500f with 11000miles on it. Loving it! Thanks for sharing the knowledge yammie!
....can you give us an update... cheers.
ALWAYS buy private sale. Butt make sure to take it to trustworthy mechanic for full check! 10 out of 11 times your saving half of whatever your paying on dealer comission Ex: bike cost 5k private, dealer would sell 7.500 -10k.
Also, 6/10 new bikes (1st gen) are mainly experimental and will have some issue.
- just a mechanics perspective
I passed my MSF and got my endorsement yesterday. Got my helmet, jacket and gloves as well. I’ve been hella set on the Yamaha MT-03. I haven’t rode in 15+ years. So I figured I’d start small first then move up. Sadly I work a cash job so no way to finance the bike. So I am having to save cash up. I’m up to $3200 now! Local dealer says drive out is $5700ish. So I’m not to far off! So I can’t wait to get back on 2 wheels man! Thanks for all the rad content you put out man!
How’s it been for you since you got back to riding? I’m saving up money to get my first bike and am very excited

Hey ya'll, yammie gave good advice in this video (like usual). I'm actually in graduate school (5th year in college in a row) and what I did was buy an old but reliable dirt bike for like 900 dollars and I ride that around when I'm home from school. And bc I get the itch to ride like once a week bc Im busy working like a made man when I'm home from school it works out. However, I plan on using college graduation money to get an older used bike from craigslist. I am a bit mechanically inclined, so I can do most simply maintence stuff my self.
Thanks yammie!
This is also relevant to bicycle, help me a lot on my thinking and decision on my next mtb! Thanks

Bought my first bike 1 yr ago. I'm 54 and a cruiser guy. My mistake was buying a new bike and paying too much overall. I had a good down payment and should have paid outright for a good used bike. My advice to a new rider is get a well cared for, not too heavy used bike that you can pay cash for/buy outright. After a year of riding I am ready to move up in size and weight for highway travel but still have that pesky bike note to pay off first.

Check with banks about their apr rates too. See about getting preapprovel on a bike you’re considering buying. Make sure you’re able to make the payments.
Did mine through a credit union bank, they had an 3.4 apr rate that I got on my bike. Paying $300 total a year on insurance. $200ish on maintenance that I do myself.

Yammie: Love getting to watch the best bike channel on UA-cam! Haha. I am in a unique situation
I am 21 years old, living on my own and pretty much fully paying for every aspect of myself (rent, bills, insurance, etc) I got immensely lucky with a sales job making just shy of $60k annually, which is absurd for my age.
Although I recognize that even in my position I cannot escape the grasp of insurance rates for guys my age, even with a completely clean record.
My pure passion is cars, but seeing as that market is fucked I’m looking into my secondary passion of bikes! I still have a long way to go, haven’t purchased a single bit of gear much less done my riding course, but I’ll get there :)
I’m thinking of a budget of around 8k, and just buying outright, to soften the insurance blow as much as possible, but past that… unsure what I want!
I live in a tiny mountain town in northern NM, with a significant number of unpaved roads, and the ones that are paved aren’t smooth by any means. I’m not saying i need a duel sport, but it’s worth noting. It also gets quite snowy in the winter months. I’ve looked into mostly naked and cafe style bikes, in the 400-500cc range, but maybe I’m getting ahead of myself with that level of power
I had a little 90cc Yamaha dirt bike when I was much younger but that’s the extent of my riding experience. What naked bikes would you recommend? I know you had an Mt-07, and I quite like the look of that one, what do you think?
PS: It’s awesome to see you in Austin, I lived there 12 years and loved it so much, I used to work at Barton springs. I used to ride on the back of my dads first year Triumph Thruxton and we would park at that spot at 13:25. Good memories :)
Mr.Yam... you should do more videos like this. No one ever really talks about the financial aspects of the Motorcycle lifestyle. You have the knowledge lol.

Lonely Gym rat dope!!
How you liking it?
I searched and searched and research and... for two years before I bought my first bike. I purchased a Husqvarna TR650. Only after I created a spread sheet of all the BMW parts for cross reference. Because the bike was an orphan year I purchased for 2800 bike had 600 miles. I sold two years later for 8k with 10,000 miles on it; with spares wheels, tires and other parts that would be difficult to find. Today I wish I kept it.
My point is take the time, research, test ride, go to riding events and talk to riders. Your dream bike is out there. Good luck to all looking for euphoria in riding. So much fun.

I still have yet to find a video that truly addresses all the things you have to handle at a dealer. Every single one I talk to is obviously out to scam me. Even with all the info they know we can see on YT they still play like all buyers are ignorant. That being said...bought gear, registered for MSF looking at a gently used Versys 300x as a 1st bike.
I love 150 or 200 cc bikes, to be honest. They give impressive mileage. Yamaha r15 gives 45 kmpl. It's like 105 mpg. And they're powerful too, for a beginner. They can go like 120-140 kph, which is enough for daily commute and safe long distance riding. 400, 600 and 1000 ccs have got only power, and nothing else, may give you a lot of speeding tickets and may even take your life. On a racetrack, it's different, but on the streets they're not reliable.
Bruh I didn’t know yammie noob lived here in Austin, I would watch their videos and keep thinking how familiar the scenery looked 😂
Buy used with cash is sound advice especially for a noobie. Great financial tips from yammie. I would never get into debt to finance a depreciating asset. Only if you have money burning a hole in your pocket and even then I rather invest it.
There isn't much that can beat getting your first bike and riding it home (or after it gets home and riding it for the first time if you don't have traffic experience). I'm really looking forward to getting my second bike after I recover from this injury. Maybe I'll luck out and win one in the give away. That would be awesome.

When i was 17 i had 3 older friends that bought motorcycles in 2011, two financed them and one bought an older cheaper bike. Ive ridden dirt bikes from 6-13 years old. I really wanted a bike and every spring since 2012 i went to shops, sat on bikes and wanted to buy. In November 2018 i finally bought my 08 CBR 600RR used in cash. 1 year later in so happy i waited and got the bike i wanted for less than i wud have spent on a bike that was what i thought i wanted. The 3 friends one enjoyed the cheap Honda Shadow sold it for similiar to what he bought it for, one still has a Ducati Evo 848 that he hasnt ridden in years, the third traded his Ninja 250 for a another bike he financed.
Hi Yammie,
(Amazingly helpful content BTW) I am 15 but in several months will be the age(in UK)to take my Compulsory Basic Training and ride anything up to 50cc. I can get a dualsport bike seeing how it's light frame makes it easier to handle and makes a great transition from a broken chain bicycle to motorcycle, should I get an aprilia Sx/rx50.
That jacket you're wearing looks amazing. What is it and where can I buy it?
Still got my first bike (I'm aged 34) and started riding 4 years ago. If I can give any advice: buy a beater and mod the shit out of it. I've Chinapoviçed every single part of my 2001 SV650. I don't care if I drop it. I've carved every single curve in the Nijmegen area and had an awesome time owning the piece of crap. I'm saving up for a MT07 at the moment but I've never missed having more power. Fun is in corners for me, not in power or top speed.
Buy a beater and have fun!
thanks man
I wish you would expand a bit more on your preference of financing or getting a loan over paying in full cash.
I just prefer staying liquid with my money. But in other cases it makes sense to just buy cash, like for our giveaway bikes
Awesome video. Question - Any particular reason you stop so close to vehicles in front of you? Honest curiosity. Once I got rear-ended and hit the car in front of me (luckily not a scratch on me), so I always make it a point to leave a good amount of space, also in case I need to get out of the way.

Have you reviewed or checked out the Royal Enfield interceptor 650? Curious about your thoughts about theses bikes.
Bought my gear the day before my moto class. 👍 Passed and next, update my license in a week. Last buy my first bike.
My first bike was a 98 250cc hornet, unfortunately in the EU it's cc doesn't pass you for any licence, so I only got passed for A1 on my A2. I sold it and bought a 06 Honda CBR125 with a 150 body kit in great condition.
Cheap & reliable. You will drop your 1st bike so don't get a new flashy one. I bought a used 2015 Z300 that a young fella (im 41) did not wash or cover but mechanically looked after. It cost me almost half what others are asking just because he left it outside too much. Gave it a quick spray job & looks mint now.
HAM on a license plate is a amateur radio operator for emergency communications!!!!!
If you're in college just get a used low end bike. Used 250-500s going pretty cheap around where I live. I bought a 2014 CBR500r with 7000 kms on the clock for like $2800.
I hate commenting in the middle of a video, but I just wanted to add onto a really good point you made about taking out a loan to pay for a bike when you're young - it frees up your capital to invest into things like mutual funds, which you will not regret doing (and you should be doing), but it also gives you a great opportunity to build up your credit too. If you've got a decent credit score, you're at your first entry level job out of school, you're pretty disciplined and responsible, then taking out a loan for the bike instead of saving up and paying cash will really help you launch that credit score up into the high 700's by the time you're going to start thinking about, you know, taking out a mortgage for example. Okay, that's my two cents, back to the video xD
my very first and currently bike is a triumph street twin 2019, very good beginner bike, everyone was like "900cc is too much, too heavy, too much torque for a first bike" and I was like: look my new bike kkkkkkkkk
I think people ask for your opinion is because, for ex: I never rode a bike before taking my motorcycle license. And considering that I spent 30 hours at the moto school, on different bikes, I was not aware of which is good or not. Even if I drive test, I still had some fear or little knowledge.
I chose my bike with no help. My first factor was the riding position. Second, I want this for commuting and drives to the mountain. Third, not so many hp, but not so few, so I chose a 650cm3 bike.
Fourth point: I didn't want to buy a bike now, and then another one in one year. I wanted a long ride bike, in years and kms. So I asked myself these 4 questions, logically speaking, and it was the best advice for me.
