I'm gonna talk about my little experience here. I'm 26 now but at 8 i had an accident with my uncle in a dirt bike and i lost memory and conciousness. For so many years i always saw motorcycles on the road and thought about how awesome should be able to get one even after what happened when i was a kid. Fast forward to a few months ago, i just decided i wanted one, so i went to the dealership and got a brand new yamaha xsr700. And I can't express how happy i am now, how relaxed i feel, I'm not in a bad mood all the time. It changed the way i see life too. So, for all the guys in the channel waiting to get one, just be patient and get it when you can afford it, be smart about your decisions but don't give up on getting one, i hope it changes your life too as it did with me.
@@xav_crack yeah, as a beginner you have to respect the bike, it has a lot of torque, so you have to be gentle with the throttle if you're learning how to ride in that bike, I'll highly suggest if you've never driven a manual car or a motorcycle to go to a msf course, learn the basics first and then go to your xsr and practice before going into the streets. That's what i did, and it's been two years with the motorcycle and i don't regret my purchase or the decision to start riding. If you buy it keep in touch so we can share our mods 😊

Bought my first bike 1 yr ago. I'm 54 and a cruiser guy. My mistake was buying a new bike and paying too much overall. I had a good down payment and should have paid outright for a good used bike. My advice to a new rider is get a well cared for, not too heavy used bike that you can pay cash for/buy outright. After a year of riding I am ready to move up in size and weight for highway travel but still have that pesky bike note to pay off first.
My first bike was an 02 Kawasaki Ninja 250 in 2008. Cost me 1200 bucks and I rode the crap out of it. It went 100mph and was faster than most cars. Still like the little bikes.
I just got told I need a REALLY good co signer to get one from this dealer I had 2k ready to put down. I am 20 years old with little to no credit so it’s understandable . But I got approved for a 17k Mercedes Benz alone last year. Wtf...
That is exactly what I want, a Ninja 400. My issue is that they are impossible to find cause everybody wants one! I have the cash for one cause all I can do really is save since I literally don't have the option to buy one... 🙄
Ohhhh the 360 bridge. Looks really cool from underneath too, from a boat on Lake Austin. Great place to waterski in the mornings before anyone's up. Grew up in a lakehouse just south of the bridge, across the lake from Ski-Shores. Dude, youre taking me back!
Hey ya'll, yammie gave good advice in this video (like usual). I'm actually in graduate school (5th year in college in a row) and what I did was buy an old but reliable dirt bike for like 900 dollars and I ride that around when I'm home from school. And bc I get the itch to ride like once a week bc Im busy working like a made man when I'm home from school it works out. However, I plan on using college graduation money to get an older used bike from craigslist. I am a bit mechanically inclined, so I can do most simply maintence stuff my self.
I’m 40, U.K., put off buying a bike due to family and friends horror stories. I’ve finally decided I’m ready and not getting any younger. Done CBT and theory within last 3 weeks. Can’t get a test date or training in local area for 5+ weeks. So bought duke 125 to have fun for rest of summer, well when it finally comes in 2-4 weeks. I wanted 390 but can’t wait much longer so will see how year and 125 pans out. Credit to sales guy he told me not to waste money on the first bike and buy used... but done it anyway
Update: no sign of duke 125 I ordered so I switched it to 390. and I’ve gotten big bike lessons now. I’ve been riding a 2020 CB125R for a few weeks. Love it. Still waiting for 390 to be delivered also zzz. That could soon be cancelled and I’ll reconsider a used one or something else...
@@222wheelsdown congratulations! Sadly the 390 never came and I’m waiting for mod 2 in may before I can progress beyond my 125...should be a good summer when I finally get full license.
First bike on my A1 license, Aprilia SX 125 with a 154 big bore kit with enough HP, then a Aprilia RS 125 with a 140 big bore racing kit, with also, more than enough HP. (Both Fully Illegal)
Check with banks about their apr rates too. See about getting preapprovel on a bike you’re considering buying. Make sure you’re able to make the payments. Did mine through a credit union bank, they had an 3.4 apr rate that I got on my bike. Paying $300 total a year on insurance. $200ish on maintenance that I do myself.
I totally agree with this being a very personal matter. It very much like your style of clothing you prefer. Nobody else can tell you. You just have to figure it out for yourself.
I searched and searched and research and... for two years before I bought my first bike. I purchased a Husqvarna TR650. Only after I created a spread sheet of all the BMW parts for cross reference. Because the bike was an orphan year I purchased for 2800 bike had 600 miles. I sold two years later for 8k with 10,000 miles on it; with spares wheels, tires and other parts that would be difficult to find. Today I wish I kept it. My point is take the time, research, test ride, go to riding events and talk to riders. Your dream bike is out there. Good luck to all looking for euphoria in riding. So much fun. Dee
Yammie: Love getting to watch the best bike channel on UA-cam! Haha. I am in a unique situation I am 21 years old, living on my own and pretty much fully paying for every aspect of myself (rent, bills, insurance, etc) I got immensely lucky with a sales job making just shy of $60k annually, which is absurd for my age. Although I recognize that even in my position I cannot escape the grasp of insurance rates for guys my age, even with a completely clean record. My pure passion is cars, but seeing as that market is fucked I’m looking into my secondary passion of bikes! I still have a long way to go, haven’t purchased a single bit of gear much less done my riding course, but I’ll get there :) I’m thinking of a budget of around 8k, and just buying outright, to soften the insurance blow as much as possible, but past that… unsure what I want! I live in a tiny mountain town in northern NM, with a significant number of unpaved roads, and the ones that are paved aren’t smooth by any means. I’m not saying i need a duel sport, but it’s worth noting. It also gets quite snowy in the winter months. I’ve looked into mostly naked and cafe style bikes, in the 400-500cc range, but maybe I’m getting ahead of myself with that level of power I had a little 90cc Yamaha dirt bike when I was much younger but that’s the extent of my riding experience. What naked bikes would you recommend? I know you had an Mt-07, and I quite like the look of that one, what do you think? PS: It’s awesome to see you in Austin, I lived there 12 years and loved it so much, I used to work at Barton springs. I used to ride on the back of my dads first year Triumph Thruxton and we would park at that spot at 13:25. Good memories :)
Man i cant wait for the experience! my car decided to throw a rod, and i looked at my wife and said well i guess i can finally get a bike? and somehow she said yes, so in 3 months ill be all set!
I love 150 or 200 cc bikes, to be honest. They give impressive mileage. Yamaha r15 gives 45 kmpl. It's like 105 mpg. And they're powerful too, for a beginner. They can go like 120-140 kph, which is enough for daily commute and safe long distance riding. 400, 600 and 1000 ccs have got only power, and nothing else, may give you a lot of speeding tickets and may even take your life. On a racetrack, it's different, but on the streets they're not reliable.
Still got my first bike (I'm aged 34) and started riding 4 years ago. If I can give any advice: buy a beater and mod the shit out of it. I've Chinapoviçed every single part of my 2001 SV650. I don't care if I drop it. I've carved every single curve in the Nijmegen area and had an awesome time owning the piece of crap. I'm saving up for a MT07 at the moment but I've never missed having more power. Fun is in corners for me, not in power or top speed. Buy a beater and have fun!
Bought my first bike('85 Nighthawk 450) a few months ago and absolutely love it! If it wasn't in the shop currently I'd be joining y'all down in Tuscon. Feel free to swing up to Phoenix while you're in the area!
I'm starting on the same 450 nighthawk, '83. Fantastic riding machine. What's getting fixed? I need a tachometer, waiting to break in new Dunlops in a couple months, cuz Canada. Hello from the frozen few.
You like your Ducati Scrambler better, right up until the time you pay for your valve adjustment at the dealer... Ooops there it is! LOL love your videos.
I still have yet to find a video that truly addresses all the things you have to handle at a dealer. Every single one I talk to is obviously out to scam me. Even with all the info they know we can see on YT they still play like all buyers are ignorant. That being said...bought gear, registered for MSF looking at a gently used Versys 300x as a 1st bike.
If you're in college just get a used low end bike. Used 250-500s going pretty cheap around where I live. I bought a 2014 CBR500r with 7000 kms on the clock for like $2800.
I got two bikes within a month or so as both first bikes. Grom for in town, driving to work (first). A drz400s for riding out to the trails. I'm 36, have all the important things in life taken care of first.
Cheap & reliable. You will drop your 1st bike so don't get a new flashy one. I bought a used 2015 Z300 that a young fella (im 41) did not wash or cover but mechanically looked after. It cost me almost half what others are asking just because he left it outside too much. Gave it a quick spray job & looks mint now.
Not bad man! I'm 65, still ride and on my 5th bike. Really impressed with the mature advice given 👍👍 Oh, by the way, rode with some young dudes this past summer and they got me into ATGATT.
Buy used with cash is sound advice especially for a noobie. Great financial tips from yammie. I would never get into debt to finance a depreciating asset. Only if you have money burning a hole in your pocket and even then I rather invest it.
Recently discovered you...love the vids and YOU'RE IN MY HOMETOWN. I recognize ATX! Very cool. Took that bridge home over Barton Creek many times. Thanks for the memories and the awesome moto vids 🏍✌🏼🤘🏻
I took a 5 year $12000 loan out for my brand new 17 ktm 450 excf and work a regular retail job. I have no regrets and it will be paid off next year. It's only a bad idea if you are just a kid who just started their 1st or 2nd job. I have never missed a payment and even pay more than the minimum to pay it off faster.
Def gonna get a motorcycle now while I’m in high school because the feeling of wanting ride again is such a strong feeling I have now that I can’t wait any longer
Ya do it. I’m about to get mine next week and I’m 19 about to be 20. My parents never let me get one when I was in highschool so ya fuck that. It’s my time to shine
I hate commenting in the middle of a video, but I just wanted to add onto a really good point you made about taking out a loan to pay for a bike when you're young - it frees up your capital to invest into things like mutual funds, which you will not regret doing (and you should be doing), but it also gives you a great opportunity to build up your credit too. If you've got a decent credit score, you're at your first entry level job out of school, you're pretty disciplined and responsible, then taking out a loan for the bike instead of saving up and paying cash will really help you launch that credit score up into the high 700's by the time you're going to start thinking about, you know, taking out a mortgage for example. Okay, that's my two cents, back to the video xD
Yammie ✌️⬇️ Just wanted to say thanks. With the advice you gave on your channel last year I had the interest of riding from when I was a young kid back. I found a bike that fit me, a YAMAHA Bolt new but old stock. 2018 $6100 total and with renewed warranty. Thanks to MOTO tubers like you I’m having the most fun I’ve had in years and to submit my idea for a beginner rider topic. “Customize your motorcycle and why” keep it up Papa 🍠
my very first and currently bike is a triumph street twin 2019, very good beginner bike, everyone was like "900cc is too much, too heavy, too much torque for a first bike" and I was like: look my new bike kkkkkkkkk
I think people ask for your opinion is because, for ex: I never rode a bike before taking my motorcycle license. And considering that I spent 30 hours at the moto school, on different bikes, I was not aware of which is good or not. Even if I drive test, I still had some fear or little knowledge. I chose my bike with no help. My first factor was the riding position. Second, I want this for commuting and drives to the mountain. Third, not so many hp, but not so few, so I chose a 650cm3 bike. Fourth point: I didn't want to buy a bike now, and then another one in one year. I wanted a long ride bike, in years and kms. So I asked myself these 4 questions, logically speaking, and it was the best advice for me.
If you want to get a bike, you should think what you need the bike for. If you just need to get around town on your own on the cheap then look for a moped or a microcar(if you live in the EU). If you need a vehicle to get around in the countryside where distanses are long and speeds are high and you are not old enogh to drive a car then you should start looking for a bike to sute your needs. If the roads are in good condition and you have nice wether all the time, then a regular street bike or a cruiser or a naked bike is fine, If you have a bunch of dirt and gravel roads and the wether is unstable then an enduro is probobly better suted for your situation. But if you just want to have fun then get a new or a lightly used model of the bike that you like.
I’m 16 I’m selling my mustang and taking some of the money from it to by a Honda grom as my first bike. I like the small cc and small bike luck hopefully everything goes smooth
That was a good chat...Im not a new rider, obviously, but that was the best ride! THANK YOU SO MUCH Yammie. There isn't much that can beat getting your first bike and riding it home (or after it gets home and riding it for the first time if you don't have traffic experience). I'm really looking forward to getting my second bike after I recover from this injury. Maybe I'll luck out and win one in the give away. That would be awesome.
Mr.Yam... you should do more videos like this. No one ever really talks about the financial aspects of the Motorcycle lifestyle. You have the knowledge lol.
I’m 37 and have always wanted a motorcycle because my dad had one when I was a kid and I rode on my uncles bike, and I always just loved it. But still don’t own one and don’t have the money for it.
I see what you're saying. But my problem is that I just need a form of transportation. I'm 21 years old and I've been relying on other people, the bus, and uber for transportation and I don't wanna do that anymore. Plus, buying a car(and car insurance) is way more expensive and I can't afford that.
Can't wait to have a throttle to twist... im so lost on what bike I want lol I want so many of diffrent styles from a ninja to a drz to a freaking shadow! Lol I can't chose!!!

I never rode a motorcycle but will be taking the MSF course next month. I am 61 years old and do not plan on purchasing multiple motorcycles so I purchased a Indian Scout for my first motorcycle. I am about 5'6" and 165-170lbs, do you think that bike is a good starter bike?

My first bike was an 02 Kawasaki Ninja 250 in 2008. Cost me 1200 bucks and I rode the crap out of it. It went 100mph and was faster than most cars. Still like the little bikes.
My Yamaha TZR 50 (50cc) actually thaught me a LOT about riding and in my country I could ride it while only 15 years old.
Jeeez 16-17? I am freaking 30, not living at home and my mom still wont allow me to have a bike. I own one anyway tho :D
*Yamaha FZ1 perfect balance, ergo, cost and power for a careful beginner wanting to grow up on a single platform*
I've never heard the term lawnscaper before and I mow lawns and landscape lol
I bought a Suzuki bulovard m109r for my first bike and I love it and just started riding in December of 2019
Because you probably have riding experience.

Bought my ninja 400 for $4,000 a few months ago. I’m 17 now I bought it when I was 16. I saved up all summer and it was worth it lol.
Good effort.
@@ShuffleMasta damn that sucks. Best of luck to you though.
Thanks yammie!
Bought the ktm 390 adventure last week myself, how are you enjoying the new 390 Duke?
@@222wheelsdown congratulations! Sadly the 390 never came and I’m waiting for mod 2 in may before I can progress beyond my 125...should be a good summer when I finally get full license.
I'm getting my first bike when I get my returns back, I'm stoked
@@SirSpinalColumn a Kawasaki Ninja 650r

Had it right the first time yammie, going to be hard to continue living there without a motorcycle. Lol
Yammie: Love getting to watch the best bike channel on UA-cam! Haha. I am in a unique situation
I am 21 years old, living on my own and pretty much fully paying for every aspect of myself (rent, bills, insurance, etc) I got immensely lucky with a sales job making just shy of $60k annually, which is absurd for my age.
Although I recognize that even in my position I cannot escape the grasp of insurance rates for guys my age, even with a completely clean record.
My pure passion is cars, but seeing as that market is fucked I’m looking into my secondary passion of bikes! I still have a long way to go, haven’t purchased a single bit of gear much less done my riding course, but I’ll get there :)
I’m thinking of a budget of around 8k, and just buying outright, to soften the insurance blow as much as possible, but past that… unsure what I want!
I live in a tiny mountain town in northern NM, with a significant number of unpaved roads, and the ones that are paved aren’t smooth by any means. I’m not saying i need a duel sport, but it’s worth noting. It also gets quite snowy in the winter months. I’ve looked into mostly naked and cafe style bikes, in the 400-500cc range, but maybe I’m getting ahead of myself with that level of power
I had a little 90cc Yamaha dirt bike when I was much younger but that’s the extent of my riding experience.
I just got a KTM DUKE 390 as my first bike and I loved
I just picked up a helmet , gloves, jacket and boots. MSF course is next month. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out!
Man i cant wait for the experience! my car decided to throw a rod, and i looked at my wife and said well i guess i can finally get a bike? and somehow she said yes, so in 3 months ill be all set!
J G her best friend died on one, so she’s been pretty upset about the idea
I love 150 or 200 cc bikes, to be honest. They give impressive mileage. Yamaha r15 gives 45 kmpl. It's like 105 mpg. And they're powerful too, for a beginner. They can go like 120-140 kph, which is enough for daily commute and safe long distance riding. 400, 600 and 1000 ccs have got only power, and nothing else, may give you a lot of speeding tickets and may even take your life. On a racetrack, it's different, but on the streets they're not reliable.
You’re not a true Yammie fan unless you watch the video only for Papa Yam’s sweet voice.

I got a r3 the other day you motivated me man thanks

If you're in college just get a used low end bike. Used 250-500s going pretty cheap around where I live. I bought a 2014 CBR500r with 7000 kms on the clock for like $2800.
Man ... i love this guy 😌..thanks again for the good video
I'm 80 and just got my M license. I'm looking at the Hayabusa for my first ride

Buy used with cash is sound advice especially for a noobie. Great financial tips from yammie. I would never get into debt to finance a depreciating asset. Only if you have money burning a hole in your pocket and even then I rather invest it.

Just get one, PERIOD!
Bruh I didn’t know yammie noob lived here in Austin, I would watch their videos and keep thinking how familiar the scenery looked 😂
Yammie ✌️⬇️
Just wanted to say thanks.

I wish you would expand a bit more on your preference of financing or getting a loan over paying in full cash.
I just prefer staying liquid with my money. But in other cases it makes sense to just buy cash, like for our giveaway bikes
my very first and currently bike is a triumph street twin 2019, very good beginner bike, everyone was like "900cc is too much, too heavy, too much torque for a first bike" and I was like: look my new bike kkkkkkkkk
"*Counting bikes...* So, i bought a lot of bikes... anyway, what's the point I'm trying to make?" ROFL Dude, you are hilarious :D
Can you do one for England please. I wish I lived in usa but I was born in Canada and live in boring old England 😭

There isn't much that can beat getting your first bike and riding it home (or after it gets home and riding it for the first time if you don't have traffic experience). I'm really looking forward to getting my second bike after I recover from this injury. Maybe I'll luck out and win one in the give away. That would be awesome.

I see what you're saying. But my problem is that I just need a form of transportation. I'm 21 years old and I've been relying on other people, the bus, and uber for transportation and I don't wanna do that anymore. Plus, buying a car(and car insurance) is way more expensive and I can't afford that.
