The problem is that his diet plan itself promotes poor eating habits. It's been shown that insufficient calories can lead to weight gain, yet his diet plan promotes a very low amount of calories. His plan also promotes a uniform amount of calories (1200), even though not everyone has the same metabolism. Fasting and Low carb-High fat diets seem way more effective and sustainable (especially since you don't need to worry as much about calorie counting and calorie deficiencies with those diets).
He is absolutely hands down one of my favorite doctors..... I love how honest and open he is and he doesn't take any s*** from them and he doesn't take excuses either.... And he always gives them every outlet for help...whether it be mentally or physically from beginning to end he's with them through everything.

Dr. Now is an amazing man. And some of the patients make me angry because he is getting up there in age. They don't want to follow the program but they are wasting his time. He could help many more people if he didn't waste time with people who don't want to follow his instructions.

Besides, why count calories, the calories you get from eating ice cream, is not the same as that from eating a steak. It is the nutrient density that matters. I love this Doc. He tells it like it is. These people who come to him for help want a quick fix. What gets me, is they most all of them can lose enough weight to get surgery, but cant seem to continue to lose weight without it. It takes a lot of hard work for sure. Sometimes surgery is even worse... My heart goes out to this Doc. Oh how he must get so frustrated, and he keeps trying to help.

I adore Dr. Nowzarandan. He seems to really care to help his patients to live a healthier life. He takes no BS which is 'tough love' which many only understand. But his patients treat him so bad and disrespectfully, often speaking to him hatefully and he never loses his patience. When he retires his show will be over. No one wants to see "My 600-Lb Life" without him.
His patients have a very bad addiction and he doesn't require all of them to seek therapy unless they aren't losing weight. They should have to get therapy throughout the entire time on the program.
I agree many of his patients are rude to him. Also, he has to have the “tough love” approach as many are in denial about how life threatening being overweight is

he got lucky to be the first one to do this care. It's Luke a first invention. Anyways, he's got 1 foot in the grave and the other sliding around on a banana peel. There will be other doctors he has trained, but he's going to have the fame, to bad like veterinarian Dr Pol, it's way late to use their money while young. Fitzpatrick has another 20 years, but I don't agree with his methods he's trial n error, all of those doctors are trial and error. but it works for about 30% but Dr Now gets people free care to use as dummies, but Fitzpatrick does not, hence the money difference, and pol was just a dive in n fix n no care if the animal is in pain.. Dr Nowsardan is good hearted, Fitzpatrick referrals he give no discounts for TV publicity, Pol just doesn't care, he knows he's got numbers in his life, they all do, so the saying goes polocks are cheap.

So he took a woman with three bastards and supported her throughout the marriage but was deemde unsupportive... ok... marriage and divorces are a joke for men.
The problem with this dr. is that he doesn't tell his patients that they will be very hungry and they have to soldier through that feeling. Eventually, he should tell them, their stomachs will shrink and require less food. He needs to prepare them for the inense hunger that occurs when you deprive your body of the amount of food it's used to. He needs, also, to give them tips like drinking 32 fl. oz. of water first thing in the morning and drinking water or artificially sweetened drinks throughout the day. Also, eating mostly protein and veggies, etc. He says the SAME things to all his patients...stop eating so much. Period. (If he gives them dieting tips in a brochure, for the benefit of viewers, he should refer to those tips on air to let people know there are ways to facilitate dieting.)
I've become quite frustrated, at times, watching the program as I've NEVER seen him check an individual's thyroid level. Hypothyroidism, strangely enough, causes one to gain weight almost through thin air. I speculate (I'm not an expert or specialist or even a dietician) that in individuals with hypothyroidism that everything ingested is stored as fat and not utilized to nourish one's body. THAT would explain the enormous swelling of ankles, dry hair, sallow looking skin, lethargy, etc , that we see quite often on this show. What I have always found interesting is that, despite how many calories in units of nourishment these people are putting in, they have enormously inflamed calves, sparse unhealthy hair and skin, extreme lethargy, etc. Those are all symptoms of malnourishment. Wouldn't hypothyroidism, by its very definition, also effect malnourishment as the units of nourishment being taken in are not being used to nourish one's body but being stored in fat instead? This became very dominant in my mindset watching the show just recently when a patient asked about tests to be conducted at the onset of their treatment. His response was that tests would be done further down the road and not at that time. HOW would he know WHY the problem exists if not through tests???? I have found that medicine in the United States nowadays is TERRIBLY lacking the fundamental essentials.
They don't show everything acourse they do all the levels and blood if you don't understand this your sir are truly a more ON and probably obese eats 50000 calories a day and complain your overweight because of your thyroid

It turned out that I had severe hypothyroidism that was caused by cancer treatment. I am attempting to sell the very multiple sizes of clothes that I had to purchase in an attempt to be able to wear something to go outside of the house in and taking a gigantic loss on the thousands of dollars I spent on clothes while idiot "doctors" ignored everything I told them. Those shows are markedly evident that that doctor never bothered to check levels of thyroid

Admittedly, getting names wrong is a personal hot button for me but I am genuinely curious as to why so many (although not all) Americans will not make the effort to pronounce people's full surnames properly. Particularly if those names are long, foreign or unfamiliar. This seems to be a habit that is almost exlusive to the U.S. This is far from the first example I've come across of someone being referred to by an an extremely abreviated version of their name, or sometimes even by an initial only (as would be Dr. N. in this case). I know some names can be incredibly tough to try and pronounce, but one of the foundations of basic ettiquette is getting someone's name right. If it is intended to seem like creating an endearing nickname, it doesn't work and comes across only as ignorant and disrespectful. If you are flumoxed by a name that you can't get your tongue around, just ask how it is pronounced. I have never come across anyone insulted by that kind of honesty. I have quite a variety of cultures making up my personal background but I am no world expert so would be interested to know it there are other countries that rename people for their own convenience. Before this video I was only vaguely familiar with Dr. Nowsaradan, but found this offered some fascinating personal insights. Thanks for an interesting video.

The problem with this dr. is that he doesn't tell his patients that they will be very hungry and they have to soldier through that feeling. Eventually, he should tell them, their stomachs will shrink and require less food. He needs to prepare them for the inense hunger that occurs when you deprive your body of the amount of food it's used to. He needs, also, to give them tips like drinking 32 fl. oz. of water first thing in the morning and drinking water or artificially sweetened drinks throughout the day. Also, eating mostly protein and veggies, etc. He says the SAME things to all his patients...stop eating so much. Period. (If he gives them dieting tips in a brochure, for the benefit of viewers, he should refer to those tips on air to let people know there are ways to facilitate dieting.)

I've become quite frustrated, at times, watching the program as I've NEVER seen him check an individual's thyroid level. Hypothyroidism, strangely enough, causes one to gain weight almost through thin air.
I speculate (I'm not an expert or specialist or even a dietician) that in individuals with hypothyroidism that everything ingested is stored as fat and not utilized to nourish one's body. THAT would explain the enormous swelling of ankles, dry hair, sallow looking skin, lethargy, etc , that we see quite often on this show.
What I have always found interesting is that, despite how many calories in units of nourishment these people are putting in, they have enormously inflamed calves, sparse unhealthy hair and skin, extreme lethargy, etc. Those are all symptoms of malnourishment.
Wouldn't hypothyroidism, by its very definition, also effect malnourishment as the units of nourishment being taken in are not being used to nourish one's body but being stored in fat instead?
This became very dominant in my mindset watching the show just recently when a patient asked about tests to be conducted at the onset of their treatment. His response was that tests would be done further down the road and not at that time. HOW would he know WHY the problem exists if not through tests???? I have found that medicine in the United States nowadays is TERRIBLY lacking the fundamental essentials.
They don't show everything acourse they do all the levels and blood if you don't understand this your sir are truly a more ON and probably obese eats 50000 calories a day and complain your overweight because of your thyroid
Because hypo is not an excuse for a 600 lb weight, and he also do a lot of checks, is just we dont see that, only we see it when is a problem.

I've seen a lot of those shows where are people balloon up enormously for no apparent reason.
I started gaining weight, seemingly just by breathing.
It turned out that I had severe hypothyroidism that was caused by cancer treatment.
I am attempting to sell the very multiple sizes of clothes that I had to purchase in an attempt to be able to wear something to go outside of the house in and taking a gigantic loss on the thousands of dollars I spent on clothes while idiot "doctors" ignored everything I told them.
Those shows are markedly evident that that doctor never bothered to check levels of thyroid
That's messed up that the wife got 70% of all their assets, when you divorce you should get 50-50, especially since she was a no job sahm while he is a freaking surgeon who probably funded most of their assets.

So sad so many have passed away. But my goodness. All the years that they were in such bad shape have wrecked havoc on their bodies. Just the lack of movement kills off organs, lack of proper blood flow, etc... he does try very hard to beware if their health issues before surgery. Hes just a doctor not God.

Admittedly, getting names wrong is a personal hot button for me but I am genuinely curious as to why so many (although not all) Americans will not make the effort to pronounce people's full surnames properly. Particularly if those names are long, foreign or unfamiliar. This seems to be a habit that is almost exlusive to the U.S.
This is far from the first example I've come across of someone being referred to by an an extremely abreviated version of their name, or sometimes even by an initial only (as would be Dr. N. in this case).
I know some names can be incredibly tough to try and pronounce, but one of the foundations of basic ettiquette is getting someone's name right.
If it is intended to seem like creating an endearing nickname, it doesn't work and comes across only as ignorant and disrespectful.
If you are flumoxed by a name that you can't get your tongue around, just ask how it is pronounced. I have never come across anyone insulted by that kind of honesty.
I have quite a variety of cultures making up my personal background but I am no world expert so would be interested to know it there are other countries that rename people for their own convenience.
Before this video I was only vaguely familiar with Dr. Nowsaradan, but found this offered some fascinating personal insights.
