@@omarsorianolopez5290 I'm currently moving between places so I can't really shoot with bigger setups unfortunately, but hopefully that won't last too long!
I have a few of those Jazztone 10-inch records from the 1950s. They usually contain “remastered” 1940s recordings - remastered, because they would take the metal master of the original pre-tape recording and transfer it to tape while adding a whole bunch of spring reverb. 1940s recordings are bone dry, but in the 1950s adding tons of reverb to everything was all the rage. Just a bit of trivia, don't mind me.
Hey as far as I remember it was pretty straightforward : the Keystep data is going into the Digitakt where it's being recorded, then the Digitakt sends some of those data to the Octatrack (which play the piano chops). The Octatrack is also sending the main clock back into the Keystep so that the arpeggiator will stay in sync at the end. Hope that helps!
@@Aldoistaken Super clear! It has been a journey since I first saw your random jams and I finally have all the gear and some knowledge to go with it. I will try to put together the pieces of the puzzle! Thanks a lot for sharing!!
Yes probably, I’m currently moving between different places so I can’t shoot with my big setup but I should be able to make more Random Jams in a few weeks. 🙂
As an exercise I'm doing what you're doing with this beat, learning quite a bit through the process. How do you start recording slices on time with the new tempo just by visuals cues though ?? of all things that's kind of impressive !
Hey, I'm not entirely sure I understand the question but here what happens during the first 30 seconds : at the beginning, all machines are stopped, then at 0:06 I press on the Octatrack which starts the recording/sampling process. Beforehand I set it to a BPM that would roughly match the record speed so that it would record 4 bars of the song. That process stops at 0:17. Then at 0:18 I press record+play on the Digitakt which starts the sequencer and allow me to record my pattern. There is no pre-roll or anything, I just start whenever I want to. The Digitakt is in a different BPM, the one I chose for my jam. The two machines are not synced together, the Octatrack is still running at its previous BPM, but I don't use its sequencer so it doesn't interfere with the jam. Hope that helps!
@@Aldoistaken Yeah that's what I've been doing ! works wonders! It took me a while to get that your OT and DT were not in sync. My question was : you start recording your pattern on the DT without a click or beat, I suppose you rehearsed a few times but that's still impressive!
@@Aldoistaken Thanks for the inspiration and taking some time to answer me. I feel bad you had to re-explain your process as I had (humbly) figured most of it out (correctly, I might add), and I *actually typed it* in my original comment, then deleted it to keep it short. I guess I can't escape one long comment. This is the one.
Would you recommend the octatrack for looping style performances? Im looking at getting one but not sure if it's overkill vs. just getting something like the aeros loopstudio.. Would love to hear your perspective since you are so adept at using the hardware. Lovely performance!! I always love watching your videos, they are so inspiring and give me energy to work on my own music! Much love
Hmmm, if you're talking about looping guitar (or any non-MIDI instrument), the Aeros is 100 times better. I bought the Octatrack hoping I could pull this off but unfortunately it has too many quirks and limitations. :/
I've heard good things about these non conventional loopers: *****Blooper by Chase Bliss Audio Loupé by Glou Glou Deluge by Synthstrom Beebo by Polyeffects (beta) You are only looking for hardware loopers? I can suggest Enso by Audio Damage, is Vst. Mac, Wind, iOS Mobius looper, standalone and 32bit vst. This one is free, for Mac, Win
Yeah, if you play a long portion of a commercially-released track like I do in the intro, UA-cam's Content ID algorithm will often detect it. It will notify the right holder who can either remove the video or apply some ads and take the money. Somehow I got lucky and this one wasn't detected, but all the money from my previous video (ua-cam.com/video/lsPwKwsyGZg/v-deo.html) is going to Warner Music Group, aha. I mean that's actually fair since I'm using someone else's work, but yeah it's still pretty annoying. :/
@@KenithCopeland I'll release a breakdown video of that setup on Patreon next month but I don't think I'll go into much details about the Octatrack settings because I believe a very small portion of my patrons own one. That said I'd love to help, the setup is actually pretty easy anyway. :) You can shoot me an email (aldo.watergun@gmail.com) or I can write a short step-by-step guide right here if that's enough for you. Cheers!
I'll have a martini with that please
Can't go to bed without listen to it in the last 5 days
These are so rad, this one reminded me of the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for some reason. Very relaxing beat
So awesome! Youre doing awesome sampling with your setup, sounds so good!
Thank you so much man!
Aldo only drops fire 🔥! Nice groove, loving the new format!
🙌🏻
I do miss the guitar chops a bit, but this is still super dope!
Yeah me too, I hope I can return to the usual stuff soon, but thanks anyway. :)
what if you could use your guitar as sound source in one Microgroove instead of the vinyl? That would be dope 🤘

These are so dope. Please put those on a Spotify playlist like the random jams.
I second that!
Hey thanks but I can’t because of copyright. :/

OT for live looping is way too much money for a device that can do it, but not particularly well when compared to others like the aeros
