I’ll get this gun eventually, looks so badass in all black. I just wish you could change the sights, other than that I like that it looks close to the original plain 1911.
Yeah a big part of the appeal to me was the classic design which I guess is the idea behind the sights as well. I also wished I could change the sights when I first got it because I'm used to larger modern sights but it didn't take long for me to get used to and they are quite functional.
@@GigatonsGunworks yeah I love the classic look, I just like my guns all black so this gun really grabbed my attention. It was just a plus that it is double stacked too. The only sight solution I could think of is a mount on rail for red dots.
@@TheGentileGabe Maybe give the GI sights a chance unless you know you won't like them or they don't meet your needs. I find them pretty serviceable especially for target shooting and plinking. Once you install a dovetail mount and red dot, you delete a lot of the "classic style" points 😅
@@TheGentileGabe It works great. It's in rotation with my other .45ACP 1911's and I take it with me to the range every so often when I'm in the mood for a double stack one.
I picked up mine last month and it shoots a tight group low left (which is me not the pistol). I personally like the feel and even though slightly heavier than my 1911 single stack, I think it feels like less recoil.
I like what I'm seeing in this video. Not that I'm looking to buy a gun like this but as a writer I curious about one thing:Is a hi-cap 1911s 45acp a good concept carry choice?
I suppose that would depend on your holster fit / body shape and whether the additional grip bulk and ammo weight bothers you. If not a concern, then the 14-round capacity may be a good incentive over carrying a 1911 with the standard 7 or 8-round magazines. Personally I prefer compact pistols for my CCW because I am a slim guy and I dress light because I am from a hot southern state, so this would be better suited as a nightstand gun for me. But for bigger guys who don't mind carrying things like a Glock 21, or similar double-stack .45's, this may be a good carry option.
The mags cost me almost $20 back when I got them. They don't seem to have gone up much and appear to be a similar price from some quick searches on a couple online shops. Hope you enjoy your upcoming pistol purchase 😄. I'm glad you enjoyed this video, thanks so much for watching!
Would a person with smaller hands have more difficulty using the double stack in home defense high intensity situation? My wife has small hands. I was about to buy a normal single stack with extended magazine capacity. But then i saw your video. What's your opinion for this situation?
For small hands, a standard single-stack 1911 grip is going to be significantly easier to use. Even without the extended magazine, I don't think the difference in round count is worth sacrificing shootability / control. I also think there are few handguns that feel as ergonomically comfortable as a classic single-stack 1911 so there's also that. Good luck to you and the Mrs.
I haven't tried hollows. This is a recreation / target pistol for me so I always run the cheapest ammo I can find and hollows are more costly. The only thing I've shot aside from FMJ is some flat-nosed Jacketed Soft Point ammo that was on sale. I didn't encounter any issues with those.
It's a double-stack .45ACP mag so it's fat, and it will not fit in standard 1911's that use a slim single-stack magazine including most other Rock Island Armory standard 1911's. To my knowledge, Springfield Armory's only double-stack 1911's are their DS Prodigy pistols which are all 9mm guns so I don't think this will work in anything Springfield makes. It was originally designed for the Para Ordnance P14-45 and will only work in double-stack 1911's which are kind of rare. If you have a Springfield Armory 1911 in .45 and want slightly more capacity than 7 or 8 rounds, Wilson Combat makes a nice slightly extended 10-round mag that is very reliable ua-cam.com/video/sZ0CevWynFs/v-deo.html. Good luck to you.
@@GigatonsGunworks Thank you so much for the reply. One more question. Do you full conceal that 1911 in the video or is it too big to full conceal or uncomfortable cause of the bulkiness? Thank you for the help.
@@anthonymartinez3525 The 1911 in this recording is a range toy / plinker for me. It wouldn't be too tough to conceal during the cooler months when I can wear a light jacket or hoodie. You can conceal carry anything if you're determined. However, I'm a slim guy and I live in a southern state that's hot most of the year so I dress very light almost all the time which makes it harder for me to conceal something like this. My personal preference for CCW's tend to mostly be subcompacts as a result.
I haven't had any issues with reliability and the pistol has always cycled well and is a breeze to shoot. Springfields are definitely nicer which reflects in their price tag. The fitment seems that much tighter and the finishes that Springfield uses are gorgeous. This specific Rock Island 1911 isn't going to win any beauty contests, but it's a workhorse and will get the job done. I like both manufacturers and own pistols from both, but if I had to choose between them it would depend on what it is I'm looking to get out of the gun.
@@GigatonsGunworks I think RIA did a good job designing this pistol. I like how it looks like a standard gi model except I wish they did more to design the grips. Springfield Armory actually used to make a double stack 1911 that looked exactly like the one you have. I wish they still made them.

Low left groupings are usually indicative of flinching. Adjust your trigger pull and reset and check if the groupings improve.

Is the guns width larger than a p14?
It's the same size as the P14-45.
Do you get hammer bite at all?
No, that has never happened to me.

No you cannot. The rear sight is in a dovetail slot so you could potentially change that, but the front sight blade is pinned in place.
