From my estimate, we eat about 6-9 lbs of onions a month if i include dehydrated onions. That's just two of us. We eat a lot of peppers also, it takes a lot of pepper plants to grow enough peppers for us. I had 27 plants last yr it was not even close to enough, but I also didn't have water available like they needed either. People eat a lot of food.😊

Great video. Thank you. I've grown my first red onions. They're smaller than I expected, because they were started by great big store bought onions three time the size of these. I wonder if I'm doing it right. The stalks turned brown and fell over. They've maybe been about 60 days in the ground. Thoughts? I'll try again and again. Practice is a good teacher. Can't wait to never have to buy my usual garden veggies again. Cheers!

This is my second-year gardening, but my first-year planting onions. I wanted to know if you trimmed your onion tops any time after you planted them in the ground. I have been trimming the tops monthly when they get long and bend because some UA-camrs mentioned to do so, but they are not forming large bulbs. Also, I mulch around them with straw, but that only brought tons of slugs, so I removed it and mulched with wood chips. Should I remove that also and just weed regularly? Lastly, I saw that some remove soil (spoon) around the bulbs to encourage bigger bulbs, should I do that? What should I do?
