@ColleenTinker I’m listening in 2024, and it’s so relevant for me today, thank you so much for sharing. My family and I left our SDA church in 2022 and officially left the organization this year. Your presentations have been extremely insightful and I can’t thank you enough. I thank God for opening our eyes and we pray that He will continue to do so for other SDA members.

Until you read Hebrews (and let's throw Galatians into the mix as well), I am unwilling to pursue this discussion. Scripture is crystal clear what was wrong with the Mosaic covenant. It is equally clear what law was changed...the Mosaic law depended upon the levitical priesthood, and vice versa. With a new High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, the Mosaic law was no longer valid. The priesthood had changed. The law of Christ is the law of Christians.

Colleen Tinker, that was absolutely magnificent. You hit the nail right on the head. Some 30 yrs ago or so, I showed an Adventist good friend of mine the 2 Corinthians 3: scripture that you taught from and he told me he would study it and get back to me. Well I don't know if he did study it but to this day, he has never gotten back to me on that subject.
    Very well done sister.

The book of Hebrews is entirely about how Jesus is better: better than the angels, better than the levitical priesthood, better than the sacrifices, better than the old covenant (Heb. 8). Jesus has better promises, and He offers us a better day...TODAY (ch. 3-4). Hebrews does not endorse the "sanctuary service"; rather, it explains how Jesus is better than all the constructs of the law. Heb. 7:12 states, where there is a change of the priesthood, there is a change of the law.

As a questioning Adventist, this was really insightful. The explanations of Adam and Eve being made into rest and Colleen's explanation of Israelites keeping the Sabbath pre-10-commandments are both more beautiful than the literal Adventist explanations. Thanks Colleen!

Hebrews explains it clearly. Hebrews 8:7 and onward begins thus: "For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second. For finding fault with them, He says…" The book of Hebrews goes step-by-step through the flaws in the Mosaic covenant and ends showing how Jesus is better, and God gave a new covenant. Check out Heb. 7:12: where there's a change of the priesthood, there must be a change of the law.

The old covenant is the Mosaic covenant. The book of Hebrews is explicit in showing how Jesus is better than all the features of the old covenant, and chapters 7 through 10 are detailed in explaining why the old covenant was flawed and why God gave a new covenant and foretold it in Jeremiah and Ezekiel.

I have left a media ministry that have some churches where the members believe in egw books.
They don’t reveal the root of their doctrins and they mainly spread sabbath day is the God’s seal and people cannot sure that the life from God is eternal they insist that we can get life from God but we would lose it if we don’t follow “the light” that from egw.
Egw mentioned her writing as a small light for guiding to the big light, pretty sounds humble, but being based on her doctrin, the bible readers gets to totally different results- no assurance of life, no perfect save from Jesus..etc
Those can be together the teaching of bible. So I left that church, now I set free from sin and keeping the law people insist.
I left there not to eat meat, stop eating meat is not that difficult. It was torturing me that seeing people keep their eternal life and build up their knowledge of books of egw and interpret the Bible by that and that was not God’s intention. There’ s no fruit of spirit so people there are struggling make the fruits by making effort..

Hebrew 8:7-8 is talking about finding faults with the people but not the covenant and the new covenant is the same covenant but place it in their heart. As Jesus said in Matthew 5:27-28 You have heard that it was said to those of old,‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Meaning the new covenant is not to sin and take goat or ram to the priest and pardon is received. No. Our heart will forbits us to refrain from sin, not even contemplating on it. The Ten commandments is the only handwriting work in the entire Bible that God Himself Wrote and its stands as a guide to humanity to all eternity. Or would they be à time that we will worship other gods and prostrate before them? Or take the Lord's name in vain? Or worship someone else other then the creator? Or do not honour our parents,? Or Do murder? Or commit adultery? Or do steal? Or bear false witness against your neighbour? Or covet anything of your neighbours? If all these are still biding, where is the new covenant? The problem is about us and not God's. Thanks

We establish it (fulfill it) by living in the spirit... the new covenant. The law isnt fulfilled by works or keeping the sabbath (which no one does perfectly and we failed at it)
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Galatians 5:14
13For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love. 14The entire Law is fulfilled in a single decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15But if you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out, or you will be consumed by each other.…

    @skykiss12 9 років тому +37

Now we can keep the Sabbath rest every moment of every day, by faith, by not working, but letting God work through us by the inspiration of His Holy Spirit. The physical sabbath was only a shadow of this. You can rest while you work, because God works through you. See Hebrews 4.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath CEASED FROM HIS OWN WORKS, as God did from his.
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Let go and let God and rest in the Lord. "But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." John 3:21. " How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" Hebrews 9:14. Let God work while you rest in Him.

Rome had calendars with eight days, eleven days, and so forth. There have been many variations. Where is there a text that says we will be in heaven for 1000 years? Rev. 21 and 22 say that there is no sun or moon in the new Jerusalem...no passing days. The 1000 years in heaven idea is only in EGW. Rev. 20 describes 1000 years on earth, with Christ ruling over the nations. The Bible doesn't say we'll be in heaven for 1000 years.

Thank you for this most informative lecture. I am pleased to see that your conclusions closely match the onclusion that I reached after looking into this matter over many, (30+) years.
There is an obscure passage in Nehemiah, 9:13 & 14 which demolishes the sdas' claim that the sabbath was kept from creation! Nehemiah plainly states that the sabbath was made known to Israel at Sinai! This, of course fits nicely with the many passages that state that the sabbath was the sign of the Mosaic covenant, also made at Sinai and as you so well explained, is no longer in effect.
I look forward to listening to your other lectures on UA-cam. Thank you again.

The words of the creation account are the words God gave us. We have to see the "evening and morning" distinction as different on the seventh day than during the six of creation. (The seventh day, by the way, was not a day of creation. Creation was six days.) God created nothing on the 7th day; He ceased. He did not resume His work of creation. His "ceasing" did not end, and it was not a single day.

Colleen Tinker Genesis 4, Cain killing Abel was sin. God specifically told Cain his murderous thoughts were sin and it would control him. Joseph sleeping with Potiphar's wife would be a sin against God (Adultery), which Joseph refused to do. These are samples of parts of the Decalogue which are before the period Paul refers to in Galatians.
And the interesting thing is that Paul says the law he is talking about was added because of transgression. What was being transgressed?

    • @ColleenTinker
      @ColleenTinker 9 років тому +15

Elebert Vundhla Right and wrong are not determined by the law. Morality-right and wrong-are attributes of God Himself. God didn't need the law to know right from wrong, but humans who are spiritually dead lost the ability to know right from wrong. Romans 1 through 3 describes the condition of sinful humanity. Ephesians 2:1-3 further explains that we are born dead in sin and subject to Satan. We are simply not born with a "spark" of light or goodness in us. Our spirits are dead because of Adam and Eve's sin in the garden. According to Romans 5 and 1 Corinthians 15, every human ever born (with the exception of the Lord Jesus) was born spiritually dead and subject to satan.
God gave Israel the law in order to point out to them what they were already doing that was sinful. The point of the law (read Romans 1 through 8 carefully, and Galatians) was to point out sin...not only to point it out, but to INCREASE sin. The law was not given to help men become good. It was given to clearly show that all humanity is under a curse. Natural man cannot please God, obey God, honor God, or even seek God (Rom. 3:9-16). We are born DEAD, without the life of God in us, citizens of the domain of darkness (Col. 1:13). The law was given to define sin to a people who had lost sight of the nature of their sins. It was given to make people aware that they were helpless and cursed, and it spelled out the fact that death was the consequence of their sin.
Jesus came and fulfilled that law. He lived a sinless life...not because He prayed hard and managed to overcome sin, as EGW says, but because He was conceived SINLESS...alive with the life of God from the moment of conception. He was the only human who did not have to be born again, to be made spiritually alive. He WAS sinless not because He didn't sin. He didn't sin because He was sinless. He not only lived without sin, but He fulfilled the curse of the law. He took the death the Law explained was the natural consequence for every single human ever born...except for Jesus. Because He was a man, He could die the human death that human sin required. Because He was God, He could bear the infinite sins of the human race....He didn't just die as one Man for another. He was able, because He was God, to bear the sin for the entire human race.
The transgression which the law was added to expose was the natural sinfulness of every man. Unless one understands that man is literally (not just figuratively) spiritually dead from the moment of conception (by Nature children of wrath), they are born into intractable sin. This sinfulness was what the law was given to reveal. As David said, "Against Thee only have I sinned." Mankind does not sin against the law. Mankind sins against God. The law merely identifies the sin that every human does, and it defines the curse of death which is the God-appointed consequence of sin. Read Romans 3 and the short book of Galatians. :)

    • @TheElebert
      @TheElebert 9 років тому +4

Colleen Tinker Romans 7 says otherwise. And Romans 8 explains why we are not subject to God's law.
Romans 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. 6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. 7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. 9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
Verse 10 says the commandment was ordained to life. But when it is broken it brings death. Jesus was asked once what one should do to inherit eternal life and his answer bordered around the fact that we ought to keep the commandments.
Now if the purpose of the commandments is line with what you say, Jesus was out of line to give that response. But we both know Jesus was right

***** Read all the texts that talk about Jesus' human nature. In actual fact the very idea that he could die means that his nature was one that was subject to death. Paul in Romans 8 elaborates it this way:
Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
So your rhetoric about Jesus being sinless because that is how he was born is ridiculous. More ridiculous would be Jesus statement if what you said was true "Övercome as I have overcome..." .
The emphasis on scripture is not the law but obedience. When Adam sinned he had no inherent sin, he was made perfect. So much so, that even Lucifer himself was declared perfect at creation.
Your rhetoric just shows how much you know of the whole plan of redemption. He was tempted on all points as we are and yet without sin, is different from the points you bring up.

It's not a stretch if you look at the terms of the covenants. Sabbath was the sign of the Mosaic covenant (Ex. 31:13-18). Jesus changed the Passover meal into the Lord's Supper, fulfilling its symbols by introducing His own broken body and spilled blood. The bread and wine of Passover became the new covenant in His blood and body. Circumcision of the heart replaced circumcision; the Lord' Supper became the new "remember". Jesus fulfilled the shadows of the law (Col. 2:16-17).

It's pretty simple Colleen. Hebrews 4 in no way suggests that our rest in Christ somehow "eclipses" or "erases" the actual physical keeping of the Sabbath. Rather, Paul is revealing how the literal Seventh-Day Sabbath rest (sabbatismos), symbolizes and celebrates our spiritual rest in Christ Jesus. This is the "katapausis" rest. Paul uses a similar argument in Romans 6, where Baptism is a symbol of our death, burial, and resurrection in Christ Jesus. But the spiritual never eclipses the literal

They had to keep Sabbath if they were lodging in a Jewish home. If they permanently lived in a Jewish home, they had to be circumcised (Gen. 17:12-13). Uncircumcised gentiles passing through had to observe Jewish law while in Jewish homes; they were not subject to the law once they left. The law was not theirs (Romans 2).

On Galatians chapter 3, the best way was to start with verse number 15 than just coming to start with verse number 17. I think in this way we are not doing justice to the scriptures. Matters of the scriptures, a context must always be considered.

You have to keep reading the whole chapter..Not just a text or two..Because as you said you will lose the context..Read the whole thing and look closely at 23-24-25
We were under a guardian..(the law) (some translations say tutor), But we are not under that guardian any more..
The law ended when Faith came to be..
15Brothers, let me put this in human terms. Even a human covenant, once it is ratified, cannot be canceled or amended. 16The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,” meaning many, but “and to your seed,”h meaning One, who is Christ.
17What I mean is this: The law that came 430 years later does not revoke the covenant previously established by God, so as to nullify the promise. 18For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God freely granted it to Abraham through a promise.
19Why then was the law given? It was added because of transgressions, until the arrival of the seed to whom the promise referred. It was administered through angels by a mediator. 20A mediator is unnecessary, however, for only one party; but God is one.
21Is the law, then, opposed to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come from the law. 22But the Scripture pronounces all things confined by sin, so that by faith in Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe.
23Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. 24So the law became our guardian to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

  • @ColleenTinker

Jesus is Almighty God. He could not fail. We know He broke the Sabbath because Scripture said He did (John 5:18). But according to the law, His Sabbath-breaking was not sin because He was fulfilling Sabbath. He was demonstrating that He, the reality of the Sabbath shadow, was here (see Col 2:16-17). He also broke the laws of not touching lepers or dead people without ritual cleansing. He touched them and gave life. He broke and fulfilled the ritual laws foreshadowing Him. They pointed to Him.

  • @ColleenTinker
    @ColleenTinker 11 років тому +9

Adventists insist that "law" equals "decalogue" wherever the terms law, commandments, or statues are used in Scripture. This assumption is false. In Scripture, "Law", "Statutes", and "Commandments" refer to the entire word/counsel of God, not just to the Decalogue. Exodus 35:28 specifically identifies the Ten Commandments as the "words of the covenant" that God made with Israel on Mt Sinai. They are not "the law" generally referred to in Scripture. That "law" is God's entire word.

    Question: "What is sola scriptura?"
Answer: The phrase sola scriptura is from the Latin: sola having the idea of “alone,” “ground,” “base,” and the word scriptura meaning “writings”-referring to the Scriptures. Sola scriptura means that Scripture alone is authoritative for the faith and practice of the Christian. The Bible is complete, authoritative, and true. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

Here's what it says: "Joshua said to all the people, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, "From ancient times your fathers lived beyond the River, namely, Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, and they served other gods. Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, and led him through all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his descendants and gave him Isaac"'" (Josh. 24:2-3).
Abraham and his father and his brother Nahor worshiped other gods. Abraham was called out of paganism, moon worship, actually-that was the prevailing religion in Mesopotamia at that time. God called him not because he was righteous but because He chose Him for His own purposes. He is the One who made Abraham the "father of the faithful" and caused his heart to believe.

He really preferred the whole thing by grace & faith to begin with & there were very few rules, very few laws, everything was to be done voluntarily out of love.--That was His original plan.
BUT AS MAN BECAME MORE & MORE DISOBEDIENT & WICKED, God had to give him more & more laws & rules & regulations. These laws were not made for the righteous, because the righteous doesn't harm or do wrong to his neighbour, the righteous one loves. But they were made for the wrong-doers, the evil people, the wicked.
THE LAWS WERE GIVEN FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE LOVE, who do evil, unloving, harmful things. The Bible says that "the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless & disobedient, for the ungodly & for sinners, for unholy & profane, for murderers of fathers & murderers of mothers, for manslayers." There is only one Sabbath Day, and the 4th commandment outlines exactly which day that is, however, salvation is thru Christ alone...period. Keeping commandments will not earn salvation. But why, in any case, are men so determined in their rebellion against what God so clearly established in order to exalt another day of their own making? All the verbiage trying to defend Sunday observance is little more than an act of defiance and self exaltation, and we know where all that first started. It came straight from Hell, and Hell's legions are it's chief defenders, whether born of men, or the Fallen of God's first creations.
I would ask why so many are determined to follow any man made day of worship instead of the one God so clearly outlined and defined as the one He made and sanctified for the good of man?

So if the ten commandments is itself, the old covenant, and not the promise to keep it under our own power, to what law was Dan 7:25 referring, where times and laws would be changed by the man of sin? And who was or could be the man of sin? In a video by Mark Woodman, the papacy lined up with 21 points from the Bible describing the man of sin. Could anyone other than the papacy be the Antichrist and fulfill all 21 points? If not, I seriously, would not worship on Sunday, if the U.S. passes such a law. It looks like Europe will legislate that all business be closed on Sunday and our President and many legislators who consider the pope to be the moral leader of our country, will also pass this first stage of the Sunday law. Will you obey, if mandatory Sunday worship actually becomes law?

You're misrepresenting the scriptures Ma'am. Arent you afraid of twisting the truth and make it more comfortable for you?

If the 4th commandment is done away with, then presumably the other 9 is also abolished. We can have other god's above God, we can murder, commit adultery, and steal! I've never throughout history, seen anyone argue against those. We all want to give God what we want, just like Cain, we see the outcome of that.

Scripture to prove the Ten C's predated Moses? Galatians 3:16-17 identifies the Decalogue's beginning and ending. The primordial world did not need the decalogue in order to be guilty of sin. Romans 5:12-14 states that sin was in the world before the law, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless, death (the wages of sin) reigned from Adam until Moses.

I'm glad she in more about what the sabbath is than what it is than what it is not. I didn't understand it either. Jesus gives us rest from sin. We live by faith. Jesus made the old covenant obsolete. The old covenant was heaven and earth that passed , because it was fulfilled.
The way they stated in Matthew 5, till heaven and earth pass, not jot or tittle will pass from till all is fulfilled.
Which means heaven and earth cannot pass until all the scripture of him is fulfilled. It was. 😊

Amazing Facts founder Joe Crews was the first person I heard who stated that Colossians 2:16 doesn’t mean what we believe it means. It clearly says the Sabbath is no longer necessary for Christians to keep. Amazing Facts needs to be renamed Amazing Fables.

Colleen may have another avenue for Sunday keepers. I different spin... the problem is it has to many holes it in. I want to cover later in a new Utube. The devil does not give up. His time is short.

This comment will probably go unseen since it's been 10 years since this video was posted, but what a fantastic message! I currently observe the sabbath, holy days, and dietary laws, but recently have been feeling my position(s) on them are in serious jeopardy. This message helped move me closer to that belief. Is there any way to get a copy of the notes that were mentioned during this message? I'm on a quest for truth (see my UA-cam handle name) and am willing to follow the truth wherever it leads, regardless of how it impacts my life.
