Our church is very small and EXTREMELY limited for instrumentalists (one person who plays piano ... that's it!). We would like to use songs from UA-cam and display the video which includes the word for people to follow. My understanding is that we can use the audio, but not the VIDEO with the audio under CCLI. Since our pianist is human, there may come a day when she cannot play anymore. I know there are alternative as far as preparing my own lyrics for our projector, but is there a "catch all" license akin to CCLI that would allow us to use UA-cam videos like I've described?
Very informative! Though the idea of a performance license does make sense, it does not make sense to me that they don't require reporting. So if a person creates a published song and 200 churches play it at their retreats, how does the songwriter get reimbursed since none of the 200 churches are reporting that they used the song? Who does the $300+ go to? I'm sure they work this out somehow, but would love to know how this will benefit the actual songwriters out there.
So if I am using a music track by Chris Tomlin in a lyric video during a worship service, and I am not streaming it, am I covered if I have a CCLI license?
Dave (or anyone else that might know), Do you know what percentage of the fees charged by those two organizations actually make it back to the composer/artist who owns the copyrighted material?
For a worship service that only uses performed music (i.e. a worship band and nothing pre-recorded) you'd want the main church copyright license from CCLI and their streaming license add-on. If you plan on using pre-recorded music in the stream, you can get their new streaming plus license. But Facebook and UA-cam can still give you a copyright claim if you use pre-recorded music.
@@practicalworship thanks. I just purchased the CCLI and the streaming plus. We are planning on doing a lot so it was best to get the plus to be covered.

So would I need CCLI and CCS or one or the other?

What if I want to stream myself playing worship for my personal account? What does that look like?

I don’t, but I do know songwriters are typically one of the first to get paid. Songwriting is one of the more lucrative sides of the music business.
I currently have a challenge of our Facebook Livestream being blocked due to copyright issues. Would these licenses address that issue?
I put in a dispute claiming religious exemption under copyright law and the block gets removed shortly after
Did they upgrade their product? So which one does a church purchase if they have a worship service and stream it live?
