Well, I like the old songs as well as the 'Host' tracks. But when a band develops, it's hard to play the old shit at festivals in the same way they did before. When you find you have a voice, why grunting anymore ?
Well I had short hair also back then. I was serving my country at the military in 1999-00. What a sad time in metal. Nu-Metal and all that. Some songs were ok but it wasn't the same. When did the real metal come back anyway? Maybe 2004? 2005? Anyone remember? Were there a special album?

You got the answer right there in your post as to why people bitch, but you don't get it. Nobody thinks DM vocals are awesome because the lyrics are unintelligible. Yeah, the growls are understandable in the original version. They're also actual growls, unlike here, and the vocals of the song of are based around that. He doesn't even replace growling with any good sounding singing here, he just kinda moans like he was really hung over and protests against doing the dishes.
Don't know this band, but Heard this specific live version of this song on a video, looked up the studio version and the vocals were garbage. But apparently the fans of this band disagree according to these comments XD
I wonder if they cringe now when they see such footage 18 years later.. I hope so. I was soooo disappointed back then. Not because "Host" was a bad album, but because they literally sucked the dicks of mainstream. Bizarre Festival is one of the trendiest mainstream "rock" festivals in Europe, a band like PL playing there, WANTING to play there and fitting the expected style, that was hurtful to a Doom Metal fan like me.
