There is no contest between this, which is sublimely beautiful and simple, and the overwrought, grating, ear splitting English version of this that one hears in their average Novus Ordo mass now. I don't think I've ever heard a good English setting of the Gloria. You can't top what is already so perfect.
@@christopherpavesi7245 That hasn't personally been my experience. They still have it at the many NO masses I have attended at various parishes, even the hyper modernist ones. It just sounds like clumsy nails on a chalkboard. They also break rubrics by repeating lines in it like a pop song. Specifically repeating "Gloria, Gloria, Glory to God in the highest" over and over and over like it is a chorus or something. I don't know how anyone with any affection for music can stand modern Catholic mass settings. The Novus Ordo mass is spiritually harmful to me, and I pray to God that the Latin Mass is preserved.
@@nuglifer I agree, I won't attend the new mass unless it is for a funeral or wedding. If I am unable to attend a Latin Mass, I'll go to an Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy instead.
Western rite orthodox here. We do the Gloria every Sunday at my parish praise God. Done exactly like this but in English it’s the Latin mass mostly in English and omitting the Filioque during the creed. We also have Latin mass every Friday as the main mass.
@@dylanarmour6727 Why would you omit the filioque? If it is omitted that means the Holy Spirit is the same as the Son as they both would proceed from the Father alone OR that God is not actually One because there is no relationship between Holy Spirit and Son.

A beautiful, carefully done example. In my parish it is sung too fast. Chant is meant to be clear and well phrased. The Missa Simplex English version is terrible, breathless (Let's get it over with).
