"Thanks for stopping by our SANY booth! We are very proud who we are, what we offer, and our 5 year/5000hr warranty on dirt products". That warranty is INSANE. That is good protection for the people that buy your equipment.
Stan, always a good and honest review of new machines out there. Great job and thank you for pointing out the good, the bad and the very ugly in the industry.
Hey Stan. I enjoyed your review. As one of your three female followers. I will tell you I am mostly housebound and old and you give me an insight to the world that I don’t normally have. You help me keep my mind active by showing me things that I would not normally see. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks for the recap of your experience regarding wins and fails. I went to ConExpo specifically to see the electric equipment and learn more about it. I have a couple of thoughts: A) yes, that machine is 4 hr run time. But there is no run time whenever you are not manipulating the controls. No energy is expended when you're not on the controls. There is no warm up time and cool down time. Nor is there idle time. 2) we are on the cusp of owners/ clients who mandate the use of electric equipment in their bid docs (think national parks, inner city, HOAs). If you're not onboard with electrical equipment, you'll be missing out on entire sectors of work. Hydrogen is not the future of equipment. There is no infrastructure for it nor are the suppliers set up to deliver like a propane truck does.
A Yes, and hydrogen production, storage and transportation will be so inefficient and expensive to produce and use. The future, I believe, is in batteries.
I just like how you are so honest about your reviews on not just equipment but all the products. So many of us buy this stuff and get very disappointed with quality. Please keep up your great work
Key points for batteries not being ready are: power sources ie many stations on grid using "dirty" power or running on diesel generators and the battery charge/discharge cycles and the rate of power capacity decline over the expected lifetime. Batteries ie energy storage is the future but lithium is capable of all we need.
I prefer an overhead door myself. And although I don't think the new Manitou system is a great option, and that crease in the middle would be annoying, I would still rather have it than a swing out door that I have no choice but to keep closed.
Really enjoyed your Convention videos since day 1 because you asked the questions just like i would (like to know), Your polite and respectful which is something to be admired. Thanks for all ur videos and don't change. Be safe always!
Guy standing on the stairs guarding the volvo excavator in his aussie hat has a hard job. If the government wasn't pushing for this electric garbage it would never exist. The world will eat up the exhaust we create and humans will be long gone without earth batting an eye.
I have also followed hydrogen as an alternate fuel for a long time. I too think electric is the wrong path, especially since we will need to build more generating plants that will pollute even with nuclear. Governments are on a popularity road without thinking it thru. I’m afraid that we will be stuck with electric until the downside becomes apparent about the costs of those ill informed.
I just posted something about this and yah know it’s funny the us has some of the lowest emissions you know where the issue with the human carbon foot print comes from….overseas India china so fourth and so on Id hate to see us screw our selves trying to solve someone else’s problem
I very much appreciate how you show the negatives of the products you test. Not many people do that. Hope you week is going well! Mine is! Keep up the great work!
Stan, I am anti battery powered vehicles PERIOD, gas and diesel are my favourite...BUT that Hyundai hydrogen powered excavator has me licking my lips, I truly think that hydrogen powered vehicles are the future of mobile equipment and cars, ask Toyota, they are developing this for their cars/ truck. Great video Stan, I truly enjoyed it!
I would have to agree with you. Hydrogen all the way! Only problem with hydrogen cars emitting water everywhere is it would make the roads slick in the winter. haha.
There are huge problems with hydrogen and why it isn't mainstream already. The first problem is where do you get it? Most H2 produced today is made from natural gas. If that is going to be the source you are better off just using the NG directly. The alternative is to use electrolysis to split water into H2 and O2 using electricity. You lose about 30% of the energy in the process. Then you have to compress it to huge pressures to be able to store enough to be useful. That loses another 10-15%. You lose a bunch in the fuel cell, then runa motor that loses 5-10% to run a hydraulic pump that loses a bunch. At the point of the electric motor you only have about 25% of what you started with. The longevity of this equipment is unproven and won't likely last very long. The fuel cells in particular, and they are mega expensive. The tanks are an explosion hazard and H2 is such a small molecule that it seeps thru many solid materials like steel. Which actually weakens the material (search hydrogen embrittlement). If the gas ever leaks, it has a very broad flammability mixture range with air, making it far more likely to ignite that other gases we are familiar with and burns nearly invisibility so you don't see the hazard. And I just saw an article stating it actually makes warming worse. Bottom line, we have to be pretty desperate to really be using it. Currently it isn't doing anything to help the environment due to the poor efficiency and where we get it from.
You nailed this video! I am starting a small business this spring in central Mn. I am going to try and catch up on all your videos. Thanks for your honesty.
Completely agreed on the door. I keep rags and glass cleaner in equipment so you can see. What's the difference as if you have a big line or scratch on your glasses.
I like your contrasting remarks about that door. Stoney Ridge Farmer really likes it because it folds inward, you can get out in an emergency where the loader arm might block the door, or a load shifts against the cab. Or you fall into water with the loader arm up. Totally agree that line would be annoying.
Yeah that door is dumb. Happy to see the conexpo vids coming out. Happy i ran into you at the expo. Stan thanks for taking the time to talk quick and thanks for the picture. It made my day!
Great Video Stan. In my opinion, as hydrogen technology gets better, it and hybrids are the best alternatives for industrial equipment. All electric battery power equipment has come a long way, but still has a ways to go before it can fully replace diesel power equipment, especially equipment that runs 10 to 12 hours a day. If you have to wait an hour or more to recharge, that's down time and down time cost money.
The Manitou door would be a dealbreaker for me to buy one, I would lose my mind with that line in the field of vision. Vehicle inspections don't allow for cracks in the driver's field of vision for a reason, and Manitou put one there on purpose. No more whiskey for the engineers there. Thank you for sharing!
Hey man- hold on. Make your decision based on the value of the machine, and the support from your service center. DON"T base it off one simple interaction between me & some people we hardly know. I appreciate the support but I want you to make the best decision that will support your efforts. If thats still GEHL please proceed. I like their equipment. I have just struggled trying to connect to find out more on their machines..
Great video. Thanks. BTW, I appreciate your point of view in these videos. You make it clear that you think like an owner-operator, sadly a disappearing segment nowadays. Your get-to-the-bottom-of-it slant is so badly needed in today’s ocean of emotion on social media.
I have driven a Mustang(manitou) skid with the split door and it did not bother me at all once i got going, I really appreciated the swing up door where i did not lose headspace. It think its not fair to judge that door so quickly. It's amazing what the brain can learn to ignore.
Hey Stan, thanks for the opportunity of explaining the hydrogen excavator from Hyundai. I agree a 100% I think everyone should be gearing their view more towards hydrogen power rather than battery power. Don’t get me wrong I think there maybe a very small place for battery powered equipment but from a longevity, emission, and economical standpoint I believe hydrogen will be a better option to diesel over a battery power system. I appreciate the time you took to talk with me at the show and I enjoy watching and learning from your channel. Keep up the good work with your honest opinions and reviews! Kaleb from Texas!
I could never work with that line going across the windows. And what if a rock slides in between the two panels as your closing them? Will it chip or break? If the new guy were getting into this machine and didn't understand fully the closing of the door, he or she might get knocked in the face. I say NO !
I've never had rocks get between the panels. And, my machine is muddy.... Often! lol They're pretty thick plexiglass, too. The one pain in the ass part is they get pretty scratched up after hundreds of hours, or so, and sooner if you bounce rocks off of the door alot.
As a skidsteer service company owner for the past 25 plus years and owning Case , John Deere and operating different brands, Ive never really been satisfied with any of the door styles but that Manitou door looks like they put even less thought into it then any other of the manufacturer's .In a day and age when things are focused on visibility and safety they come up with a door that will eventually smash someone in the head ,and cause an operator to become cross eyed trying to focus looking through that poorly thought out obstruction cutting through the middle of the window and through the operators sight line ,Fail !. Keep up the good work Stan, you called it like you saw it.
Hydrogen seems like the way to go I was going to put Hydrogen in my 92 Cherokee but I was to afraid to lol. But there are many videos on it and all the guys that added Hydrogen said they were getting ridiculously low gas mileage so yeah I would have to go with Hydrogen Thanks for sharing Stanley 😁👍
@@Dirtmonkey Yeah it's a HHO generator they sell them on Amazon=( Fuel Saving Kit HHO DC3000 for Cars) I just watched a review on it by a reputable UA-camr and apparently it doesn't do anything in that configuration set up. When I wanted to do it years ago it was just a thing on UA-cam people were rigging up with Mason jars and fish tank hose which is why I was skeptical about doing lol.
In regards of sany. I wouldn't drop that kind of coin given our current trajectory with the PRC. You can get parts now but if things go south it'll be difficult.
@@Dirtmonkey well i've been waiting for a part from cat for a telehandler for over a year now- so i'm not coming at this from a fanboy perspective. I'm guessing cat's problem for me is because or brexit or covid (it's a british part) that said Sany operates in a county where if they do something as simple a piss off Emperor Xi they can be shut down over night. The richest man in China (alibaba's jack ma) is currently hiding in Japan because he said he wanted China to be "more open" and they knocked him off his pedestal pretty quickly. It's how it is and I personally don't want to invest the kind of $$ big iron cost with the risk of it becoming a paper weight because someone buys a winnie-the-pooh t-shirt. My grandfather made that mistake back in the day buying some eastern euopean stuff for the farm. no parts = no fun
Whatever happened there was shocking and extremely unprofessional. This was an important launch of all these new models for Manitou. If I were a shareholder, I’d want answers immediately. Lots of money went into bringing these new models to market plus the marketing budget to be at Conexpo was likely huge. Sadly it took a lot of effort and money to create that beautiful booth with those shiny new models and it took mere minutes for a few people in the company to put a really big stain on Manitou’s reputation. It’s as simple as this, if you treat people poorly simply for wanting to look at your products, how will you treat them if they become a customer and need something?
To me it seems she didn't want the Manitou rep showing the Gehl equipment, even though it's the same parent compamy, I believe the rep stepped on some toes there. It was very unprofessional though.
I would like Sanytized also :D as far a battery power (I can't speak to equipment), I think it's best use is for fleets with known routes, school busses, transit busses, garbage trucks, and postal trucks among a few. mainly because there really aren't many "unknowns", you know the start time, the finish time, and it will be parked for the night anyway to recharge. those can all be designed to have enough battery power to complete the job. just wanted to put my 2c in on the subject
yes- battery is perfect for those fleets but at the parking station their has to be an ENORMOUS charging station to refuel all those batteries. A milwaukee tools rep explained it best to me. He said that if Disney world switched all their trucks to electric they would have to have a reserve battery (charging station) the size of a 3 story building 75 feet long. NOT POSSIBLE!
I like the full hybrid models, there seems to be minimal down time when compared to the full battery options. My question would be how self-serviceable are they? And how is the company with things like right-to-repair? Thank you for the videos and the information you provide in them.
80% of electric equipment will be working inside a building or underground. We all understand the charging downfall but, most of the company’s that are buying electric equipment are buying them in quantity’s. So when 1 needs to be charged they jump on another one that’s fully charged. These are the mining company’s or large demolition company’s or tunnel company’s
That door is a disaster, dirt and crud will make it into that split one way or the other ruining the seal probably chipping and cracking not to mention a half way built in fail point so that log can come in much easier😅
I'm not even a contractor and I absolutely love these videos. In my opinion, ANY business not excited to show you their product, is suspect. DirtMonkey would you ever hesitate to show someone your work? Of course not...
That overhead door with the distraction of looking at the bloody line all day is worse than having to rely on an excavator with a 4 hour runtime battery, and no way yet to charge it quickly on site !!
There's actually a lot of really good uses for electric equipment indoor spaces mining. Especially working in downtown environments, demolition jobs or jobs where so much dust is created it's hard to run the equipment that needs air. And yes it can be more environmentally friendly to use batteries to machine is operating enough
Also yard environments would do extremely well with these kinds of equipment. 4hrs continuous run could be a full day intermittent easily. Notice he was saying these are not meant to replace an excavator that just gets dropped in a field. The real question is how much further does the tech need to develop before mass adoption takes off. If they cut that charging time from 1hr to a 30 min lunch break, it'll be really compelling. And the way these tech things advance that could be next year or the year after.
Re fuel cells and the safety of the water: The Space Shuttle had hydrogen fuel cells to supply it electrical power in space, and the water produced went into the crew's drinking water tank.
Best advice that anyone could use when buying a skid steer: Get a main brand. These are the top skid for a reason. (Cat, John Deere, Kubota, ASV, ETC) you may pay more then an off-brand manitou or Gehl but you will forsure know that it is a proven and effective machine. This manitou shows that there's a reason why they dont have nearly the amount of skids on the market as CAT/John deere.
I don't run equipment for a living but that line across the windshield in the Manitou/Gehl would drive me insane operating that machine all day. Why can't they just put a roll up door on it like a Kubota or a Takeuchi I wonder?
That door would drive me insane. Like you said it would be a night mare in the summer with dirt and mud but could you imagine having that for snow plowing? It's a neat concept but I don't think it's practical at all like you pointed out
Let's b realistic. The manitu door will b several thousand to replace and it's way over complicated. To many moving parts. Plus little peddles will build up in the groove. The kubota door is tried and true tech that hasn't really changed in 20 or more years. (Just a modified excavator door). I will say the big downside to the kubota door is DO NOT LOCK IT IN THE WINTER. mine always froze. Lol
That's a big NO on battery powered construction equipment for me. I work all over in remote sites and mountain top sites. So much easier to pack a few 5ers every day to keep the equipment topped than thinking about a towable generator, charging bank, etc. Won't work for me
What should be considered is the 4 hrs is continuous run time, this is time where the machine is actively being used so it can be on for more than 4 hrs ie no input into the sticks or pedals then it will essentially throttle down to point of not using any battery vs a regular machine would be using fuel the whole time. This is covered more in depth on Dirt Perfect channel.
Manitou made themselves look dumb. They don’t even want to try to push and expose there subpar product with you, instead they push you away, the classic “ don’t have time for this guy” maybe because they know it’s subpar lol.
Wow I was thinking about giving Manitou/Gehl a look but that bi-fold door thing is a big turn off. I like the doors that stow against the ceiling but that bi-fold deal is a big disappointment. And the way those pencil pushers treated Stan was quite un-professional. These companies should be hiring Heavy Equipment Operators and diesel mechanics to showcase and demonstrate the equipment not a bunch of useless twats that stand around a water cooler.
Great video Stan. Like the big riding equipment for landscapers....I don't think the construction industry is ready for battery powered excavators, skid loaders, payloaders, off highway dump trucks, etc. The 4 hr run time with a 1 hr recharge time already is BS. How will a company retain operators if the operator is forced to work in 4 hr increments with 2 (or more) hours downtime while the machine recharges? Not to mention, when the machine isn't working...that's lost work time for the project and that puts the job behind as well. I think it's great they are experimenting with battery power but, it's just not there yet. they need much longer run times in between charges. That payloader/backhoe machine with the on board recharging is neat but 2 hr runtime in EV mode between recharging?? Then what's the point of going EV anyway? And I agree with you on the Manitou skid bifold door. The seam of the plexiglass windshield alone is enough to drive me crazy. Not to mention when it pivots back and up to open fully to allow the operator to enter and exit...it comes very close to the operator's head at that one point. No...just no. BAD design. Thanks for your hard work at capturing the highlights of CON EXPO.
"That payloader/backhoe machine with the on board recharging is neat but 2 hr runtime in EV mode between recharging?" It recharges in 45 minutes so that gives an operator a break from fumes, noise and vibration while not stopping the equipment.
@@Dirtmonkey true. But if you run equipment like that you got to love the fumes and noise. Just goes with the territory 😁. Probably gives the neighbors a break too!
8:14 also, most Asian, European, etc companies will have some kind of support or factory building and servicing the products being made, right here in USA and other countries for “ease of access”. As makes sense
Wow, I can't believe that lady acted like that to you, Stanley. In my opinion, that was unprofessional. I would definitely take GEHI off my list. That fact that they wouldn't even let you see the telehandler was just rude.
Hey bro, thanks again for another great product review, and about that door folding up in your face, I'm thinking it would also drip mud/snow or whatever on you when raised up like that. I don't like the crease in the middle of my view like the big guy said, it would piss me off too..👍keep up the great work, looking forward to the next video. 🙏🇺🇲
Per the electric excavator, battery technology is advancing very quickly. In a few years, this machine will be able to run 8 hours between charges. The cost of maintenance be much lower than the I.C. powered machine. This machine may not run today as long between charges as a diesel machine does between refuel, but when was the last time you saw an electic motor refuse to start? Have you ever operated one inside a building with poor ventilation?
that overhead door, i see it hurting me. If i need to get out of the cab for some ressun at a fast pace i would have the feeling of ducking my head to get out and trying not to hit my forehead on the crack.
Thank you Stan!! As has been stated before, I the people that work on the equipment day in and day out know more than any product rep. I agree, that line all day in my field of view would drove me nuts! I wish the Sanya rep would have explained how it is cheaper (tariffs and customs) for companies to bring the individual parts from other countries into the USA. Then, have it assembled here. For the H2 fuel cell. Small clarification, as H2 combines with the 18ish % of O2 in the air, the exothermic reaction releases energy, which is captured to be used on the machine. I like the Hybrid Cat, but I wish we would move to something more efficient than the diesel engine. If we used fuel to drive a mini-turbine to create electricity, then the machine keeps going for a good long time before refueling.
"I wish the Sanya rep would have explained how it is cheaper (tariffs and customs) for companies to bring the individual parts from other countries into the USA. Then, have it assembled here. " Yes- you nailed it. cheaper and easier to build in America and it employs Americans as well!
alot of companies work hard to brag thier products up but my god what are they hiding? maybe a higher placed employee should explianwhat those two womans positions are and why they show people like me to not give those companies any more light than they showed us
EV in heavy equipment is new, it's going to take a while of research, development and testing before it can replace all use cases of excavators. I think it's impressive, good start!
@Stanley "Dirt Monkey" Genadek not really so much interesting. Just a given fact. The premise of these existing to reduce emissions makes zero sense. You're still burning coal 🤷♂️. And diesle for that gen set to charge it.
If it’s 4hours at 100% duty it’s likely 6-8hours for most folks. This machine seems great for new developments cities and a bunch of places where the machine is on the same site for a long time. If it’s moved everyday it could maybe be recharged overnight. Sadly excavation industry is 12-16h days and charging them during the day is not convenient for most.
"Sadly excavation industry is 12-16h days and charging them during the day is not convenient for most." that is the song of our people. Long days and short nights
@@Dirtmonkey yup exactly. might work for city work but not for civil construction. with the Case M series I had to carry a 5 gallon of fuel because i couldnt go a full day (12-16h) trenching without running dry. The N series is better but still very limit.
4 hr of charge is definitely not a gas replacement. But for companies that don’t run their machine for a whole shift. The charge port the had on that can also us 240v 40 amp house power to charge it in 8 hours. Eventually they will triple the battery size giving you 12 hours and at 240v it will charge overnight. You can also match this with an electric pickup truck. The pickup truck has enough battery to charge this and only loose about 100 miles of range. Then you charge the pickup overnight.
"You can also match this with an electric pickup truck. The pickup truck has enough battery to charge this and only loose about 100 miles of range. Then you charge the pickup overnight." I don't know if that is true. they never brought that up.
@Dirtmonkey The vehicle that is charging doesn’t know or care that the power is coming from an electric pickup truck. The CCS charge port is a standard charge port and can be charged from a 240v socket using a standard charger. So far a lot of the electric pickup trucks have a 240v socket built in to power tools and such. That can be used to charge any electric vehicle if you don’t mind loosing range on the truck.
Volvo, as good as their equipment is, I'm still reluctant with their whole electric excavator. You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. Only benefit of having electric is to keep noise pollution down. To me it's just a giant waste because my whole argument is where does the resources come from to a: create electricity, and b: where is the resources for these batteries mined. I know everybody wants the "clean energy" but it takes a lot of "dirty energy" to get that. The window on that skid steer, while an impressive design with a folding window, it's impractical. Again, you hit the nail on the head, and I would add this. That seam is right in the operators field of view, so you would need to be looking over or under for doing work. And also, what if you don't get the door latched properly, or the latches fail? Down on your head if you're leaning a little bit forward. It's a true safety hazard. The hydrogen machine is amazing technology, and going back 20-30 years, people have been creating prototypes for supplemental fuel sources for vehicles. It's about time that it's becoming more mainstream.
What was the opinion of the others that did their reviews? here is my 02 cents: There is a time and place for battery powered. But its not helpful to the majority of us. and this was their big reveal. I am good with them trying to do something but I would like Volvo try and improve most everybody's life. Not a select few that will benefit from battery. Make your overall equipment better, more affordable etc etc. Not give us battery as our big exciting news
FYI - regarding Hydrogen Fuels - Ford has a 100% Hydrogen fuel cell car. They had it in pre-production circa 2010 - 2012, they dumped it when the recession ended, and as the market has shifted full electric it has gone by the wayside.
@@Dirtmonkey No infrastructure for large scale Hydrogen fueling, it can be dangerous as it is very high pressure tanks 5000 to 10000 PSI and there has not been the economic or social demand to push it into commercial production.
I was down in Vegas for my wife and daughters Spartan race, I noticed all the guys going to the Equipment show . Wish I knew you were there Stan!! would have stopped to say Hi
Fuel cell tech is not new. It just has not been used to its fullest extent. I looked at converting an old truck I had to it years ago, just didn't have the money at the time. It is wonderful to see a company making units that can take advantage of it. Thanks for the info. Also as an aside. Hydrogen can be used as a fuel source in a standard internal combustion engine with only minor modifications. In the engines we grew up with, you can change the timing to top dead center for firing and it works great. Always great videos, any salesman should be able to tell you everything about a product, they should not need an "expert". Just my 2 bits.
Whatever happened at the gehl booth was bizarre. I really like their machines, I only use them for snow removal and they are fairly inexpensive, easy to fix, and great dealer support in the twin cities.
The electric trackhoe doesn't make sense at the moment unless it's at a mine etc where infrastructure could be built for it. I see a big market for electric wheel loaders/ skids. Think of all the farms/mulch yards etc that could use one of those. I know at my place it'd would be beneficial over the current headaches with diesels.
From what I understand, they made that door to be able to open if the machine flipped over with the bucket mid way up. Every other skid you can't open the doors. That line wouldn't bother me in spring through fall as take my doors off. In the winter that seem would be annoying
I drive the new model Manitou as a test driver at the Madison, SD plant. Mine is the 2100VT (track) with that folding door. My machine originally had the swing out door, till a piece of broken pallet stuck in a snow chunk went through it. lol. Anyways, I like the folding door! Well, I like that version on that cab. The old version, on the "Yankton" models sucks! I like it because you can run the machine with it open. I have over 2000 hours on various machines, at work, and 550+ hours on my 2100VT. As far as what happened to ya at the booth... That's unfortunate. We make great stuff... At the Madison plant!
I figured a person could eventually get used to that crack with enough time. I think manitou is good stuff. BUT their marketing team would not work with me in any way. I have tried for a long time and got nowhere so I don't have much experience to say more.
@@Dirtmonkey yeah. Unfortunately that's how corporate works, sometimes. I've heard a story or two. lol. Manitou is actually a French company that bought Gehl/Mustang several years back. I'm not sure how long ago. Up until recently, Manitou skid loaders weren't sold domestic. But now they cancelled the mustangs and just have Gehl and Manitou, now. I hope you get to try out the new models, eventually! I think you might like them! I find the controls and seat quite comfortable, as long as you get the air seat!
That's guy that you asked about the skid loader door said exactly what I said that would piss me the hell off and it doesn't make any sense to have the door be a folding door. And the way they treated you was bad business for them. And Volvo don't get me started with them and that electric bullcrap
The split door v groove needs to be painted black so it isn't so pronounced in your vision, matte black. White is too bold and creates glare in your vision. You would get used to it, I would like to see an augmented reality system integrated so you could see a mix of what is actually in front of you and a layout of how it should be with a framework of what you need to remove/move being shown, also you could remove the bucket from your vision with something like that. My friend is working on a remote system of diggers using something like that, remotely operated diggers. Also, I agree with the hybrid version of electric vehicles. The battery technology isn't good enough to go full electric yet, hybrid is the only current technology that works for large vehicles at the moment. I am an engineer that has worked on commercial drones and we are still limited with the battery technology and it is still being worked on. I have seen some promising technology in development but I'm still unimpressed with anything that we can actually buy right now. The drone systems I worked on started at $10,000 so were commercial grade and not hobby toys and we modified the batteries when they arrived. A large excavator needs several Teslas worth of batteries to work all day and that cost would be enormous and not commercially viable yet.

Stan, when you talk batteries, you want to ask how many time you can recharge before they fail.
I will start. Good point
Key points for batteries not being ready are: power sources ie many stations on grid using "dirty" power or running on diesel generators and the battery charge/discharge cycles and the rate of power capacity decline over the expected lifetime.

I think he was an engineer?
I have also followed hydrogen as an alternate fuel for a long time. I too think electric is the wrong path, especially since we will need to build more generating plants that will pollute even with nuclear. Governments are on a popularity road without thinking it thru. I’m afraid that we will be stuck with electric until the downside becomes apparent about the costs of those ill informed.
@Dennis Palmer Ballard on BC was on track for hydrogen, then suddenly toxic lithium mines took precedence and batteries got funding over H
I just posted something about this and yah know it’s funny the us has some of the lowest emissions you know where the issue with the human carbon foot print comes from….overseas India china so fourth and so on Id hate to see us screw our selves trying to solve someone else’s problem

I appreciate your honesty stan. You are such an awesome entertaining content creator! Thanks for the years of amazing content.
I appreciate that!
Only problem with hydrogen cars emitting water everywhere is it would make the roads slick in the winter. haha.
@@Dirtmonkey Stan funny car won’t run my tail pipe frozen with icicles
@Stanley "Dirt Monkey" Genadek as far as I know for hydrogen cars, there is a button you have to push to release the water.
@@Dirtmonkey I think that You and I are use to slippery roads, so no problem there.

I have driven another series Gehl trackloader with this overhead door and it works perfectly fine - no issues with the centerline.
Completely agreed on the door. I keep rags and glass cleaner in equipment so you can see. What's the difference as if you have a big line or scratch on your glasses.
yep- my thoughts exactly
I like your contrasting remarks about that door. Stoney Ridge Farmer really likes it because it folds inward, you can get out in an emergency where the loader arm might block the door, or a load shifts against the cab. Or you fall into water with the loader arm up.
Totally agree that line would be annoying.
That line was the deal breaker on my first impression

Kubota #1 door 💪
Yep- Love the overhead door.
Am literally dealing on a new Gehl track loader, the way they treated you has changed my mind, thank you!
Hey man- hold on. Make your decision based on the value of the machine, and the support from your service center. DON"T base it off one simple interaction between me & some people we hardly know.

I could never work with that line going across the windows. And what if a rock slides in between the two panels as your closing them? Will it chip or break? If the new guy were getting into this machine and didn't understand fully the closing of the door, he or she might get knocked in the face. I say NO !
agree on all points
I've never had rocks get between the panels. And, my machine is muddy.... Often! lol They're pretty thick plexiglass, too. The one pain in the ass part is they get pretty scratched up after hundreds of hours, or so, and sooner if you bounce rocks off of the door alot.
Excellent video Stan. That door would drive me nuts- I would not even consider purchasing that machine solely because of the door.
That door didn't sit well with me.
That door bugged me
As a skidsteer service company owner for the past 25 plus years and owning Case , John Deere and operating different brands, Ive never really been satisfied with any of the door styles but that Manitou door looks like they put even less thought into it then any other of the manufacturer's .In a day and age when things are focused on visibility and safety they come up with a door that will eventually smash someone in the head ,and cause an operator to become cross eyed trying to focus looking through that poorly thought out obstruction cutting through the middle of the window and through the operators sight line ,Fail !. Keep up the good work Stan, you called it like you saw it.

@@Dirtmonkey well i've been waiting for a part from cat for a telehandler for over a year now- so i'm not coming at this from a fanboy perspective.
"how will you treat them if they become a customer and need something?" well said. Good question.
I was gonna check their website but after those viscous bitches snotty looks. I’ll check other brands
To me it seems she didn't want the Manitou rep showing the Gehl equipment, even though it's the same parent compamy, I believe the rep stepped on some toes there. It was very unprofessional though.
That door would drive me nuts!!! I would be trying to look above or below the whole time!
yep- me to
I would like Sanytized also :D
as far a battery power (I can't speak to equipment), I think it's best use is for fleets with known routes, school busses, transit busses, garbage trucks, and postal trucks among a few. mainly because there really aren't many "unknowns", you know the start time, the finish time, and it will be parked for the night anyway to recharge. those can all be designed to have enough battery power to complete the job.
just wanted to put my 2c in on the subject
yes- battery is perfect for those fleets but at the parking station their has to be an ENORMOUS charging station to refuel all those batteries.
Good questions- may be a Huddig rep would jump in and address them.
That makes sense in that application.
That door would drive me nuts! The hybrid and hydrogen concepts I think are way better then electric any day.
Yep- thats how I see it.
That door is a disaster, dirt and crud will make it into that split one way or the other ruining the seal probably chipping and cracking not to mention a half way built in fail point so that log can come in much easier😅
once a rock gets in that seal that door is by by
I'm not even a contractor and I absolutely love these videos.
In my opinion, ANY business not excited to show you their product, is suspect.
DirtMonkey would you ever hesitate to show someone your work? Of course not...
Im very impressed with Sany. Looking at the telehandlers they offer in the next few years
yeah they have good stuff
That overhead door with the distraction of looking at the bloody line all day is worse than having to rely on an excavator with a 4 hour runtime battery, and no way yet to charge it quickly on site !!
yep- doesn't make much sense to me.
I would not run that door! I feel that crack would fill up with dirt and turn brown and be even harder to look at all day! Nope no way!!!
yep- first pebble in there when you close it and oops
That hybrid articulated tractor is pretty slick!
There's actually a lot of really good uses for electric equipment indoor spaces mining. Especially working in downtown environments, demolition jobs or jobs where so much dust is created it's hard to run the equipment that needs air. And yes it can be more environmentally friendly to use batteries to machine is operating enough
I see that. But Volvo is only making 11 of these. So they are projecting much demand either I would guess.
Perfect way to describe any backhoe.... It's a mullet 😂!!!!
Re fuel cells and the safety of the water: The Space Shuttle had hydrogen fuel cells to supply it electrical power in space, and the water produced went into the crew's drinking water tank.
woah. I had no clue. That is cool.

Glad you like them!
Great video. this was real talk, and unbiased. Everybody had a chance and some chose the stink eye.
They all break. so its about parts and service.
It's a neat concept but I don't think it's practical at all like you pointed out
That hybrid backhoe is incredible.
It makes sense to me
How long till that door goes out of alignment and shatters when you close it?
I see a rock or pebble getting in there and snap.oops
Absolutely
Hey Keith- got your message but been swamped. Sorry for not texting back bud.
Manitou over head door is an issue waiting to happen. But I like the full slide up door like kubota
I hated my Kubota until I tried it. Then after using it. REALLY liked it. SO maybe that manitou door is ok. But maybe not
I think the bifold door from manitou is in response to kobota, especially for the ag side of their sales
That might be. But its not for me.
Lol
"Plus little peddles will build up in the groove. ' one pebble in that crack and I see a big problem with that door.
That loader backhoe hybrid thing that is cool!!!
I thought so as well.
That's a big NO on battery powered construction equipment for me. I work all over in remote sites and mountain top sites. So much easier to pack a few 5ers every day to keep the equipment topped than thinking about a towable generator, charging bank, etc. Won't work for me
Nice one Stan. 👍👍🏴🏴
Thank you sir
I love that bifold door because it's not in the way no matter loader position or implement used. Kinda awesome.
Isn't he sponsored by Volvo? I would guess he would cover it in more depth.
@@Dirtmonkey Yes, ua-cam.com/video/fFeIPhf3Qm0/v-deo.html

Wow I was thinking about giving Manitou/Gehl a look but that bi-fold door thing is a big turn off. I like the doors that stow against the ceiling but that bi-fold deal is a big disappointment. Hey Stan I’m just wondering did you cut ties with LMN? I haven’t seen the LMN banner anymore
I started using Jobber again.
As makes sense
agreed
Wow, I can't believe that lady acted like that to you, Stanley. In my opinion, that was unprofessional. I would definitely take GEHI off my list. That fact that they wouldn't even let you see the telehandler was just rude.

I don't like the crease in the middle of my view like the big guy said, it would piss me off too..👍keep up the great work, looking forward to the next video. 🙏🇺🇲
Yeah- that big guy said it well.
I’d love to see the sany booth more in depth

that overhead door, i see it hurting me. If i need to get out of the cab for some ressun at a fast pace i would have the feeling of ducking my head to get out and trying not to hit my forehead on the crack.
Yep. I didn't like it.
I think that door is blind to bite someone's finger along with bonking your head on the way open and shut.
" Yes- you nailed it. cheaper and easier to build in America and it employs Americans as well!

so what is the point with evening promoting battery then? Why are so many companies playing that game?
I can understand electric for jobs where noise is a issue but other than that its a farce.
noise or emmisions-underground work etc
JCB (England) have been developing these engines for the last two/three years. Take a look there amazing.
I will. thanks!

here is my 02 cents: There is a time and place for battery powered. But its not helpful to the majority of us. and this was their big reveal. I am good with them trying to do something but I would like Volvo try and improve most everybody's life. Not a select few that will benefit from battery. FYI - regarding Hydrogen Fuels - Ford has a 100% Hydrogen fuel cell car. They had it in pre-production circa 2010 - 2012, they dumped it when the recession ended, and as the market has shifted full electric it has gone by the wayside.
I had no clue about that. Why would they dump it?
Im learning a ton about hydrogen. BUT I had no clue about retrofitting it on older gas engines. Interesting
7:39 Nice shirt! Take care Stan
🙏
Great video, Stan
Glad you enjoyed it
Whatever happened at the gehl booth was bizarre.
Excellent point.
From what I understand, they made that door to be able to open if the machine flipped over with the bucket mid way up. Every other skid you can't open the doors. That line wouldn't bother me in spring through fall as take my doors off. In the winter that seem would be annoying
I haven't flipped very many machines but I do kknow they have an escape hatch. Either the back window or roof will allow a person to get out
I would like the line in the bi-fold door CTL if it could be used for grading somehow with a HUD or auto level.
😂 Tell us how you really feel.👊
What could go wrong by switching everything to electric? That's nothing like putting all your eggs in one basket.
Yeah- Im not for it. I like trying to get better and improve though
