Wacky Races is a fun show. I don't mind the stereotypes because I know it was due to the time it was made. The reboot could use some work but I wouldn't say it's all bad. I miss Paul Winchell, his voice was fun. One update I suggest could be that they incorporate other types of races. Camels, elephants, ostriches that to have some variety. Thank you for this review.
To be fair to _Perils of Penelope Pitstop_ Penelope actually escaped from most of the Hooded Claw's deathtraps on her own, she just let the Anthill's take the credit. Just the same I always thought Penelope Pitstop should be kinda like Daisy Duke from the _Dukes of Hazzard_ TV show, A beautiful woman capable of tearing down and rebuilding an engine in the dark room. Hell Daisy could even hang with Bo and Luke back when she had her 1974 Plymouth Road Runner (and yes the car was named for The Roadrunner Cartoon)
Very underrated channel. Love these reviews. Didn't even know there were remakes of Wacky Races.

I will say that both Jim Cummings, and Paul Winchell have gravely voices.
Thing is that this Dick Dastardly is actually Dick Dastardly the third, the one from catch the pigeon is his grandfather and the one from the original is his father
IF you want, they did a Wacky Racers comic series a year or so ago that was set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. It was called Wacky Raceland and it was....interesting. Of course the other comic that came out at that time was Scooby-Doo Apocalypse which is a zombie story and honestly wasn't bad. Both are at least worth looking into especially for the car and character designs for the racers.
I just wonder how come the red max wasnt in dastradly and muttley show. He flies a plane and is a parody of red baron. Also pat pending could of been a great antagonist also to dastradly.
One you missed was Muttley's short lived solo series where he was a detective. Maybe it was a relative though because the show was called Mumbly but he looked the same as the Laff-A-Lympics character.
Mumbly is a different character, but I think it is Muttley’s cousin.
The reason Dick Dastardly and Muttley (not to mention Clunk and Zilly) were chasing Yankee Doodle Pigeon in "Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines", was because the show was originally going to be called "Stop the Pigeon", and would feature German characters instead of Dick Dastardly, Muttley, etc.
I would say the Show series Total Drama spiritual successor to Wacky Racers.

You know, I think the reason why people didn't the 2017 series was because they try to have a story on this, when the original Wacky Races was focused on the racing themselves rather than trying to tell a story, think of the 2017 series being like the e/i cartoon "Turbo Dogs" just without the education and more of the meta, hell there was even an episode where they addressed that problem and was the focus of the episode, and I agree, I really prefer cartoons based off car racing when the focus of it is the racing, that's why I wished the pilot for "Mickey & Roadster Racers" (Race for the Rigatoni Ribbon) was more like that for the rest of the series, what do you think?
Mickey and the roadster racers is still focused on racing, even if Mickey Mouse doesn’t win all of the races. Same thing goes with blaze and the monster machines, but with blaze winning every single race!
@@jackiegonzalez6814 Yeah, well, most of the time they're just stories of their adventures in their hometown, I'm talking about a cartoon that feels like an animated broadcast of a competition (examples being not just the original Wacky Races, but also Laff-A-Lympics, Yogi's Space Race, Fender Bender 500, and even the Total Drama Series), and when I saw the "Race for the Rigatoni Ribbon" pilot for the show, I really thought it was going to have Mickey & the Gang car racing around the world, with a new location, different winner, and wacky pun prize given to said winner, maybe have the viewers go online and guess who's going to win each week and if they guess right they can win prizes (like in the original concept for Wacky Races, which I kind of imagine Fathers in the 1970s getting together each Saturday morning to watch Wacky Races with their kids and bet on the races at the same time by the way), like it's focused on showing a competition rather than telling a story, but they can have wacky cartoon antics, just to do it like that [also, am I the only one who thinks the 2017 reboot of Wacky Races is a little *too* meta, like they're constantly breaking the 4th wall and have a way too fast pacing of telling jokes, and I also imagine, the reboot getting a third season, but it do the same thing "Wabbit" did when it got changed to "New Looney Tunes" (the same show just with an entirely new element that changes everything about) it would have the original racers come back (including a reveal that Professor Pat Pending is I.Q.'s Dad) plus some new ones (including a Japanese techno punk dj girl who drives a Neon Tokyo Drift Car with a sound system hooked up to her car to cause shockwaves by playing loud music & a common family consisting of a happy go-lucky yet silghtly psychotic mother, a a wise yet bumbling father, an emo teenage boy, a fashion crazed teenage girl, a comic book geeky little boy, and a rambunctious little 2-year-old girl, who all rides and drives a common Family Studebaker and tries to win a race while trying to keep the perfect family) in order to go with the classic formula of them focusing on the races they go on and have prizes for the viewers each week who went online and guessed who'd win that week, I call it "the New Wacky Races")
the Don of Creativity oh, I understand now and that sounds like an awesome idea!! And as for blaze & the monster machines, some episodes that do have races that are either for the entire episode or a short race at the end of a episode if crusher does something before the race even begins!
Looking at these old shows, I have to ask one thing. After all these years, hasn't the lawsuit between Hanna-Barbara and Cartoon Network Studios been resolved yet? I ask this because it was this supposed lawsuit that brought the network to not only drop shows like Wacky Races.
But also classic Cartoon Cartoons like Cow & Chicken, Dexter's Lab and of course, The (ORIGINAL) Powerpuff Girls.
Kids today would love Dastardly, Muttley, Jabberjaw, Penelope Pitstop, Speed Buggy and all the classics we grew up with; I know it
What lawsuit ?
Cartoon network and Hanna Barbera are both owned by Warner Bros and Time Warner (together with AT&T as Warner Media) they can not be sued against each other if they are owned by the same parent company. That's dumb.
I think the reboot was pretty good. it's was meant to be a self aware parody of sorts. I always like when a reboot does something new. keeps things fresh.
I haven’t seen wacky races ‘60s because I was born in 2005 and already I like it more than wacky races ‘17
As someone who had warched the 1968 version back in my childhood days, I do have to agree with you since I felt that the 2017 reboot is not as good as the original version.
I just wish that they could bring back the other racers who were left out and whilst Pandora Pitstop and the PDQ Crew are nice new additions, I wished that the show could use them a lot more.
For what I got the 2017 reboot couldn't have all the racers for strange copyright reasons, but some were supposed to do cameos in season 3 before it got cancelled
And in Dick's defense, the reboot establishes he's actually the son of the og Dick, so it's normal to see him act different lol

I like the reboot. I was uncertain at first but I've always had a soft spot for Dick Dastardly and I really like his new camp, histrionic personality, I think he's adorable lol

Idk, i really love Perils of Penelope Pitstop, for the most part its Penelope saving herself and the anthill mob, plus the whole point of the show was to spoof the dime melodramas of early hollywood like perils of pauline and exploits of elaine (saying that the series is supposed to take place roughly at the turn of the century cuz its based off the film The Great Race which it in of itself takes place in like 1909 makes sense)
Lazy Luke and Blubber Bear are my favorite wacky racers. Probably because I liked bears.

To be fair Michael Maltese wrote most of the original Roadrunner shorts before going to Hanna Barbera and wrote the original Wacky Races and the original spinoffs.

I remember watching Wacky Races in the 90's when I was little and I got the complete DVD collection, still I really wished they have released the reboot of Wacky Races 2017 as the complete DVD collection just like the original.

Wacky Races is Mario Kart with Waluigi in the lead role and you cannot tell me otherwise.
I'm pretty sure that the vampire's name, Bela, is a reference to actor Bela Lugosi, who starred as the iconic Count Dracula in the original 1931 film, and became the most famous version of Dracula to this day. (If I recall correctly, in the original Wacky Races the Gruesome Twosome just called each other Big Guy and Little Buddy.)
Legoshi from Beastars is also named after Bela Luogsi according to an interview with Beastars creator Paru Itagaki.

You kinda skipped explaining why The Dread Baron and Mumbly even exist. Simply put, rights disputes between Hanna Barbera and Heatter-Quigley Inc., with whom they apparently co-created Wacky Races. Therefore HB made two obvious expies for their Olympics tie in.
I agree that the new Wacky Races could benefit from more Racers. But I do like the new stories.

I was pleasantly surprised, I didn't expect you to include the 2 spin-offs or Yogi's Treasure Hunt, Laff-A-Lympics and Fender Bender 500. I actually forgot Fender Bender had Dick Dastardly in it. It would have been nice if you could have explained why Hanna-Barbera changed Dastardly and Muttley to Dread Baron and Mumbly for Laff-a-Lympics. I thought maybe it had something to do with the fact that the Australian animation studio that HB worked with to create the original series still held part of the copyrights, but that's just a guess. As for what show Winsome Witch was in, I remember seeing her on the Banana Splits show in syndication. But that show also contained cartoons from the Atom Ant and Secret Squirrel shows, so she could have originally been on any of those 3 shows. I'm not sure which. All this reminds me of Yogi's Space Race, which would have been much better if they had used Dastardly and Muttley (or even Mumbley and Dread Baron). Instead, they used a bad guy who pretended to be a Peter Perfect type, which his real identity was more like Dick Dastardly.

You forgot the pirates racers also. They don't show as much but they do race in some episodes. They have a ship looking car. As for older shows you forgot the tom and jerry mumbly show, mumbly was on dyno-mutt, and yogi bear and the magic flight of the space goose. The laff a lympics comic confirmed mumbly and muttley are brothers and so are dastardly and baron.
It should be noted that a Candian Group that made Punch Out!!! For the Wii Re-Did "Bear Hugger" a "Candian Boxer, who chops wood, eats pancakes, has a moon shine jug of XXX or least Maple Syrup, Fishes, and trains with a Bear"

I dont think they were cut out due to being offensive. I think they were just trying to limit the cast to focus on the characters and plots. We did get I. Q and Captain Dash and his crew in this series...I think that's probably them trying to be relevant.

Great review. I do have some mixed feelings about this new WR reboot.
Two slight quibbles; It's Blubber Bear, not Blabber, because he cried and blubbered while Luke drove with his feet while sleeping (who could blame him?). Also, I can't tell if you are saying Professor Patent Pending or Professor Patton Pending? In the original show, I only remember ever hearing him referred to as Pat. Patent Pending is the original phrase his name was a spoof of, it wasn't his name. If you were saying Patton Pending, that's actually good, and would make a better pun, plus it could easily be what the name Pat is short for in this instance. But I never heard him called Patton in the original show; but then, they never used the last names of the Scooby gang in their original show but they apparently had them anyway. So maybe Hannah Barbera came up with the name Patton Pending in the planning stages, but never used it? Is that the case, or is it just a case of mis-remembering?

An character called Patty Pending is coming later in the show and episodes 13 through 28 have a lot more racing and better stories. Judging by recent reboots by Warner Bros( new Looney Tunes and the Tom and Jerry Show) they get always better and they bring always back all the classic characters later in the first season or in season 2

I know. I wasn't going to go into too much detail about the history of Mumbly or the Dread Baron. Plus I couldn't find too good of a quality video of the Mumbly show or Laugh-a-lympics for that matter.

I knew about Yogi's Space Race, but I wanted to concentrate exclusively on the characters from Wacky Races and their spinoffs. Perhaps if I did a Yogi Bear retrospective in the future. That actually may be fun to do.

Thanks for the heads up. I am taking care of it, but wow, that is nothing but my stuff. How did you find that? When I searched for that all I got was mine and the feature from the Wacky Races DVD. Also, I don't understand why. My name is plastered all over those videos you can tell they are not from them. It's kind of the point of my borders.
I came across it by complete accident. I've was watching clips from the wacky races reboot, and had 'wacky races 2017' as the search query. I also had the filter set to 'Sort By < Upload Date'. It was the second or third result at the time I think.
I don't get why either. You'd think all the watermarks, names, boarders ect. would be enough to put people off stealing others content but I guess not... they even copied the thumbnail.
I think they have a program that does a mass upload that includes title cards and descriptions, but I think it searches for different titles and whatever came closes, they would use. Most of the titles were either switched around or from someone else's video. They uploaded all of my available videos within an hour.
Ahh I didn't think of that, it would explain how they could upload so many so quickly and switch up the titles and stuff. Hopfuly they won't be able to upload yours or anyone else's videos anymore with all the copyright claims on their channel.
