What the homeless need is homes, not handouts. In these big cities there is a major shortage of affordable and/or subsidized housing, forcing marginalized people to live in cars or tents. Fix that issue before you enable homelessness with free handouts.

@@howardsmith9342 well for a long time now since before we started keeping track of time, when the resources ran out in an area the people would move to a new area where the resources were plentiful. I suggest that's what the homeless do. They can go to areas where there are jobs, and more affordable housing. This will in turn cause housing prices to go down in the over populated areas, because there will be less demand.

@@howardsmith9342 you have a point. But there are homeless because of bad circumstances, and there are the habitually homeless. I say give them all the same chance to rebuild their lives, and that's it. Many are homeless because they cannot or will not assimilate to a functioning society.

This is not about partisan politics but rather about the incredible inefficiency of socialist ideology applied to government. The city council contains a "Alternative Socialist Party" member who has also taught Economics at a local junior college (now that's scary) and whose stated response to opposition to her policies is to "take it to the streets". She unfortunately has council colleagues who support her views. The lesson it is hoped that the council has learned is that they were only elected to represent their constituents and were not anointed to dictate. But still the Seattle Soviet aka city council continues to promote their extreme views. Another council member was heard to suggest that in addition to promoting Safe Injection sites for drug users, that the city should also buy the drugs for those unable to provide them for themselves.

This isn't really accurate as large metro cities always have the most homeless population. Everyone flocks to the mega city hoping to make it but then find out the cost of living is sky high and they can't afford to live there but then its too late to leave because they dont have any money to leave either. Nothing new. This has been going on for centuries. It has nothing to do with democrat run gov't. Its greedy business owners exploiting the populace.

I think that every major city in the country is going through similar issues. I live in Philadelphia, and not only are we a sanctuary city, but our current mayor and district attorney are liberal to the point of nausea. I look forward to getting out of this shithole city as soon as I can.

I live in PA, and always feel sympathy for the people who live in places like Philly, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Erie that aren't radically liberal but have to try living with their policies. People ask me how I can stand living where I do...the entire county has 1 red light, no medical facility, 1 grocery store, no public transportation, no prison. It also has no crime (to speak of) no homelessness, no great drug problem ( we do have a lot of alcohol drinkers, but it's hard to accidentally overdose on Yeungling lager, and Noone has ever gotten a fentanyl laced rum and coke). If I have to drive 45 minutes to get to "civilization " I consider it MORE THAN an easy price to pay knowing I haven't locked my doors but 3x in the 20 years I've lived here.

Most of them get light sentences for horrific crimes, do only a 3rd of that time, get out to commit more crimes, to go back in. Meanwhile, living a better life then some law abiding citizens have. But the chronic homeless are use to living the way they do. Giving them a "paycheck" to be homeless will only make it worse. Because the average lazy citizen might find this to be an attractive lifestyle. Not to mention the corruption that will undoubtedly come into play.

With regard to the Chick-Fil-A tweet... lesson of the day: If you seek out attention, you’re going to get it. - posting everything you do to social media is nothing more than attention seeking behavior, we all know this, and not everyone will give you positive attention. Want to eat at Chick-Fil-A without being attacked for it? Just eat it quietly and keep it to yourself. No one cares what you had for lunch.

However, there are only two ways to Profit from the Poor (they have almost no money) except to 1) get them addicted and/or 2) get the government to Pay you to Help them or to Incarcerate them. Everybody wants to Profit. There is no altruism anymore. Too many mouths to feed.

We actually have some of the most friendly gun laws in the Union despite our reputation that Seattle lends us. Although I lived is Seattle for years I have since moved. It is now my understanding that Seattle's homeless problem is really a drug problem. Completely different thing. Perhaps some started out with drug problems and perhaps some resorted to drugs because of their homelessness. Nevertheless it is a big time drug problem.
But the judicial system is ineffective to enforce the law. Instead they are decriminalizing and even enabling much of this behavior and so it continues. And it will continue to spiral out of control until they identify the real issue. Seattle is drug infested just like San Francisco.

I understand his point in general that big companies have more power and I'd like some kind of check and balance meant for the small business owners, most of them have it rough and most people are employed at a small business.

People were not born homeless. They became homeless at the point that they could not pay the rent anymore regardless of whatever deviant behavior they may have. Anyone could put a roof over their head providing they could pay the rent. Not understanding this facilitates homelessness and those becoming rich from this social problem.
