  • Here are the best film camera settings for street photography! There are truly only 3 settings you need to memorize!
    I switch back-and-forth between a 28mm and a 35mm lens.
I usually use Portra 400 or Lomography 800 for film stocks
And of course, always rocking the M6.

Love it Chris! Dig you break down of the settings, and other thought processes you have while shooting street!

Omg I've wanted a guide/video about this for so long, thank so much! The details, like explaining HOW to +1 the film, instead of just saying the word "push" really helps!

The light meter trick and pushing are different things, more like opposites actually

It's interesting to hear someone else's process for this stuff. I shoot an M6 as well, typically a 50 or a 35mm lens and I shoot almost all black and white. It's all Acros 100(pushed two stops to 400) or Tri-X(at box speed usually, some times 800). I'm almost always around F8 and 1/500th and zoned to about 15ft with a 50mm and between 5-8ft with my 35, obviously this varies a little bit but it seems to work for me the vast majority of the time.

For quick manual metering from light to shadows, I use my “2 stop rule”. Basically, for example, say, in bright daylight you use EV16, if the sun gets behind thick clouds, do +2 EV, or if you walk into shadows lit by the bright sky, +2 EV. Or in area with scaffolds +2 EV on top of that (+4 in total). All of these conditions can be combined.

Question.. so do you still have it developed as if you shot the images at boxspeed??

If someone is shooting B/W it’s always good to spend some time in the darkroom. Making your own prints and processing is really the best way to figure out your own exposure.

I just bought a Pentax KM to try out and honestly am really confused with how the exposure dial is set up. Anyone have any knowledge on how that works?

What length flash cord do you use? 3’ or 6’?

Do you pull during development for the extra stop of overexposure?

Hey Chris! Great content as well, but I believe you're overexposing more than 1 stop. For example, your settings for "Broad daylight" Iso 800: S:1/1000 A:f/8 However if we follow sunny-16 we would have: S:1/1000 and A: F16 so to overexpose by 1 stop (eq. 400): S/1000 A: F11 so by using F8 aren't you overexposing by 2 stops? Thanks and keep up the content coming! Cheers

By shooting 800 film at 400, does that make the image darker?

    • @SkaterBrx
      @SkaterBrx 2 роки тому +1

No it's the other way around: iso 800 is 1 stop more sensitive to light than 400. So you overexpose it that way

    Leica Leica Leica
It’s every where here on UA-cam why why why
I would lie if I said that I don’t wish to get a Leica one day because it’s a great camera to have
these days I am using just a cheap analog Canon Eos 300 with a 50 and 35 mm
The problem is Film photography is expensive and it’s a long journey but of course it’s worth it
Analog photography is the real deal
I think it’s also good to use old vintage glass on a Mirrorless camera to get this Film look
I am using my original Sony A7 with an old Canon FD 50 mm 1.8 plus using some red and blue filters
So what do you think about adapting old lenses or Mirrorless cameras ??

“I promise I won’t post it anywhere…I ended up posting it anyways” real classy 🙄🙄🙄 people doing exactly that just makes it harder for other people trying to take street photos
