I just wanna say that UA-cam recommended this video randomly to me and I really enjoyed it and connected with it, especially being of the same generation. This quality of video definitely deserves at least 100,000 views, and I really hope it gets there!
The scream of gamecube and bionicals hit home for me. I got back into a childhood hobby, riding bikes and taking it to the next level, racing cross country mountain bikes. It brings back the youthful kid in me while keeping the adult me healthy. I know 10 year old me would be a huge fan of 30 year old me racing through the woods with no care.
I watched this the day it released and came back to it today. Love it so much, definitely deserves way more views than it already has 😢 Hopefully it gains some traction!
2 days ago I was driving and halfway through a random song, Halsey comes on as a feature. I never called myself a Halsey fan, but this weird rush of nostalgia came over me, and it was pretty emotional. Her debut album and indie-fame coincided with the start of college for me ('14-15), and her highest pop-culture relevance coincided with the full gas pedal on my college career ('17-18). Now, she's pretty much been forgotten. And a superstar who was so big at the time, is no longer cool. And since the pandemic, but more so now that im 27, there's been this weird feeling like overnight the millennials have been forgotten about as "the future" and Gen-Z is the only thing people are talking about. Feels like we're being forgotten about too, and Halsey is the visual reminder of that for me. Not really sure how to process that. Great video, Dave.
That’s such an interesting perspective that I definitely have been feeling lately too. Same thing happened with Gen X’ers, often referred to as the forgotten generation lol culture puts a huge emphasis on “the youth,” whether it’s trying to appeal to them or more likely, constantly dunking on them and criticizing them for everything. You’ll see this pattern throughout history too. Expect a video from me further discussing the cultural component of nostalgia sometime in the next uhhh year probably lol thanks for sharing that insight and the kind words ☺️
I completely share your sentiments. Great video and especially nice touch on uploading it after running it through a VHS. As soon as I saw the UA-cam player was in 4:3 I knew this was going to be good stuff! I also consider myself what I like to call a "nostalgia junkie". I dig deeper and deeper just hoping to uncover a new nugget of a nostalgia hit. At first it was game consoles and physical media/hardware. Now my entire fashion sense has morphed into this vintage thing. Which I get sounds pretentious. But going to different vintage markets and events just to score an old crewneck or a pair of Levi's that remind me of something my dad (or someone's dad in a 90s movie) would wear has become a gratifying hobby. I know it's important not to just dwell on the past. But I try and use what I loved and remembered of my childhood to inspire me in my work and life going forward. Gamecube and Bionicals. We are the same kid.
That’s awesome, keep doing your thing. My little hobby has making making my own VHS’s of modern movies. I like that you used the word hobby because I think nostalgia is at its healthiest when it’s seen and indulged in as such, rather than an all encompassing way of life
Your wife is right, the music sounds amazing :) during the video, which got me thinking a lot, I kept wondering "where does this song come from, that sounds awesome". Do you upload your music somewhere?
You’re the best, thanks for sharing!!! My honest to god answer is I’m gatekeeping my background music for future patreon potential if things shape up for something like that but I have other music up on SoundCloud and Spotify too 😬

I'm a simple man. I see Dave Caya post a video. I like.
