The fantastic W&W soundtrack from David Wise has been Revamped with improved quality, text, tracklist and a visual background: ua-cam.com/video/CKe9AGa-q8Y/v-deo.html
Dude that fucking music that plays when you have to hit continue or start over -Ohh my God. So many times I just wanted to listen to it as long as I could and would have to time it right to not start all the way back at the beginning! And so many times I ended up back in the beginning and I would be like “NOOOOOO!” I loved music and appreciated it even when I was a little fel.
I had played this game once when I was like 8 with my cousins. More than 10 years later, I heard "Tree" in the background of an AVGN video, causing me to search DOZENS of NES title soundtracks. Another 2 years later, I'm turning 21 and finally remember this game and "Tree" thanks to this video!"
The themes for Forest of Elrond and the name entry (initial registration) sound like a sped-up rendition of Huey Lewis and the News's "The Power of Love."
Thank you. Footnote, back when I still played consoles I always thought it would be cool to have Kuros as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Oh well, not popular enough I guess.
2:09 a tear fell because I remember this song later in life around 1998 I tried to recreate this this song on a hip hop beat on my computer and I quickly fled away from the thought of copyright infringement haha!
Rented this game years ago in the late 80's. Wizards and Warriors is a perfect example of difficulty like many other NES games, but the music like many NES games is remarkable!!!
I remember this game felt very strange and a bit scary when I was a kid. I didn't beat it until I was an adult. Really, it's a fantastic game. I can't remember having seen anything quite like it.
Probably my favorite NES game. Difficult (yet the unlimited continues made it easy) yet enjoyable (along with Wizards and Warriors 3). Knives and the throwing axes helped. I remember one stage I couldn't get past without one of the potions (lava stage I THINK you NEEDED pink potion). What's interesting is a friend of mine who's a lot better at NES games than I am could never beat this game and yet I beat this game when I was a kid and I beat it again a couple years ago.
Out of every Nintendo game out there this is by far the best music out there. I used to love this game. I played it more than any other game. I think I beat it Before. It’s hard to remember. I remember having to walk on fire. Goddamn this takes me back man! I love it! I wanna play this right now! God I remember all of these musics! When he’s in the cold and the music is playing in the background! Ohh my God man! So much nostalgia. And when you’re running out of energy and you’re almost dead and that music plays you know you’re in trouble. Oh shit! The bees! Dude! Holy fucking fuck. This game’s music was genius. It fit perfectly with the game. Jesus! I remember getting that fucking wond! Oh shit! When you’re in that fucking ice! Oh shit! And when you’re in the trees running around and it’s all colorful! Fuck dude! I love this shit! Ohh my God man! I remember when this music starts playing and you’re getting all those treats! Shit it’s literally been 20 years. Fuck dude. Whoever did this, you’re a fucking genius. I’m sitting here and listening to the entire thing.
Intro theme is one of the best NES 8 bit themes. Nic game too, all those childhoodmemories... I hope it will be available some day on the upcoming Nintendo Classic Mini. Thx for the effort.
My favourite too! I remember that I thought it was very similar to the slow part of Metallica's "To live is to die", and I still do. 🙂 But if this game was released in 1987 it predates that Metallica album (And justice for all) by a year.
This was the first ever NES game I played by myself nearly 30 years ago. I remember I was at my mom's boyfriend's place and his kids weren't home, so I had free reign of the NES. I had watched them play games like Zelda, Mario Bros, and Gyroscope, but this was my first time playing alone. I picked it up pretty easily and enjoyed playing the game. A few months later I got my own NES for Christmas with The Legend of Zelda, which became one of my favorite and most influential games, and I've been a game designer ever since.
Oh man...hearing this...it makes me think. You seriously need to do the first Gauntlet. This was great though man. You brought back some serious memories of when I was playing the hell out of this game back in 1991.
8:33 I could just stand around outside the castle and just listen to that awesome music. I just loved that level for the music alone, in spite of it being ANNOYINGLY hard. Much like rest of the game. ^^
You just said more Truth than you realize. I used to do Just That. I would sit there and bask in the glory of the game and how awesomely Rad this song was 8:33
I played this Wizards & Warriors game along with many other great NES titles (such as The Legend of Zelda, Rygar, Trojan, Castlevania & Mega Man series, the Super Mario Brothers chain, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, etc.) as a kid, and they are all STILL great to play & listen too!!!! Classics indeed!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you play & download these games & tracks!!!! ☺☺☺☺☺
I remember this game. First NES game I ever beat. I was 8 years old! ...Of course, the unlimited continues really helped... This has one of the most memorable soundtracks I've ever heard for a game. ...Though does anyone else think 3:17 sounds a bit like Jaws?
I've had the bit starting at 2:09 stuck in my head so hard lately, it's a relief to find it! Also noteworthy cuz it's in a bizarre time signature--one bar of 8, one of 5, and one of 6. I guess you'd call that 19/8?
I was born in 1984 and one of my first memories is watching my Dad beating The Legend of Zelda. Wizards and Warriors was one of the games we owned. I love the Title music to this day.
Ahh the beauty, grace and AWESOMENESS of WW 1. I still remember playing the old black label games when this came out, I was like OMG a carton box with an entire picture on it.. holy crap! I couldnt ever figure out how to get out of the forest, but considering it is such incredible music, it wasnt such a bad place to get stuck in all that time! I was always scared to get caught on the forest floor with the bug bear monsters running around. Creepy and scary at the same time!
Ahh, one of the greatest games/soundtracks to hit the NES yet again! I never got into Ironsword much back then but am now... just to see how much more ASS Kuros can kick, this time against huge frogs, lazy wind elements and flea-filled god bears...can it get any better Kuros? Maybe Malkil just needs his ass kicked again in 2014... he is immortal right.
This series is a recent discovery, for me. It seems like Rare was making great action games, even before Donkey Kong Country! I can hear the stylings of DKC and Dinosaur Planet on here. David Wise is fantastic.
Thanks so much for your work! This game a several others have EPIC music! Unbelievable sense of wonder and adventure and foreboding from this, Gauntlet, and Shadowgate! Much appreciated!!!!
"Strength lies not only in our swords and shields, but in our hearts and minds. It is the courage bestowed upon us to face our fears that truly makes us warriors." - Kuros
Hehe this game was legendarily hard, maybe not the hardest out there but 90% of the game all you heard was the low life music. I don't recall if I ever beat the game but it felt rewarding achieving milestones back then to.
This game was very tough, but it would have been WAAAAAAY harder without a couple of features: One, the fact that you respawned EXACTLY where you died previously (except, of course, during boss fights), and two, unlimited continues. Like many of us, I played the HELL out of this game and enjoyed almost every single second of it.

A classic which I'll remember my entire life.
Agreed
Thou hath discovered awesome nes soundtrack.
verily....
Truly a timeless work of unrivaled mastery
Thou hath discovered a gem.
I miss playing this game, this was a very underrated game
Likewise
One of the most memorable soundtracks from NES, and this is not a high budget game.
How do you know it wasn’t a high budget game?
Dude that fucking music that plays when you have to hit continue or start over -Ohh my God. @@BrentHutchinson1 Were you in charge of production at Rare in the 80s? If not, then STFU.

Something about this game was really charming. :)
This game is probably what helped to form my opinion of the tonality of medieval sounding music. So dark and and harmonic.
Easily, one of my top 5 NES games. I still run through it every now and again, just for nostalgia's sake. Such a great game!
It's hilarious that the low health songs is actually in a major scale hahaha sounding all happy like "Yeah your might die great" hahaha.
If Im ever on life support or in a coma, my family needs to play this video. Surely, I will rise!
That's the best intro music I've ever heard. Wow.
Look up Solstice. These two themes are absolutely a perfect tie in my mind. They're the essence of NES chiptunes.
Every once in a while, I need my 8-bit music fix. This is one of the best soundtracks ever written for 8-bit gaming. Thanks for posting it up.
The themes for Forest of Elrond and the name entry (initial registration) sound like a sped-up rendition of Huey Lewis and the News's "The Power of Love."
Oh man, when you play the boss and you have to do some special trickery in order to beat him and that music plays in the background-oh sheeeit
Used to play the Tree song on Bass during band practices when we were taking a break. Such a fun song to play.
Thank you.
Footnote, back when I still played consoles I always thought it would be cool to have Kuros as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Oh well, not popular enough I guess.
In David Wise we trust.. Best composer of all time!! I love this man
YES YES YES!! Such an underrated soundtrack.
The low health has a major Marble Madness feel to it (also composed by David Wise)
Marble Madness was arranged for NES by David Wise, based on compositions by Brad Fuller and Hal Canon for the original arcade version.
That's a great observation. This music will last the test of time.
Low health is an incredible song
Gripping for life!
2:09 a tear fell because I remember this song later in life around 1998 I tried to recreate this this song on a hip hop beat on my computer and I quickly fled away from the thought of copyright infringement haha!
Awesomest entering a door music in the history of video games.
Got me right in the feels with this one, 5 years old playing this and loving the soundtrack.

7:07 the hardest beat in gaming history, facts!!!
CLASSIC game. Bought it as a kid back in '88.
Love this game's soundtrack, my older brother and I used to play the crap out of this game at the time.
Out of every Nintendo game out there this is by far the best music out there. I used to love this game. I played it more than any other game. I think I beat it

You know what, I can't believe I beat this game like nothing as a kid. One of my favorite games growing up o.o.
oh, the late nights come back to my mind. I was drooling when Ironsword came out afterward!
Badass ancient warrior box art along with Deadly Towers! :D
Deadly Towers is extremely difficult to beat. I only beat it once.
As a kid, 2:47 low on energy, I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die. Eventually I did. Hit, leg flailing down a few times before restart.
My friends and I would sing "I'm gonna die" in sync with that same music, lol.
@@Number0neSon Exactly what I would sing! Too funny.
Had no idea David Wise was behind this, thats awesome.
Someday I hope to become a powerful wizard, so that I too, can be a smug cloud overlooking my castle.

One of the best NES games and no question one of the best soundtracks.
Who else killed themselves when the low health music started playing just so it would stop?
Totally. Especially because you had infinite lives.

So, too, does the Fire Caves theme (7:05).

The beat in Forest of Elrond would make a killer hip hop song.
Ah…2:49 in, the memories of chanting “You’re gonna DIE!” with my brother when my dad was at low health…
Nintendo the grand champion of game sound tracks !! Nothing like 8 bits tunes to go after that boss one more time 😌😀😀
So many memories of this game.
