    My mother used to play this on our hi-fi & sing it back in the late '60s when she did her housework...I was 9 in '68. I then began to sing it w/ her although I had no idea what the words meant if I had the words correct in the first place. When her friends came over they would sing it & we all sang it together. When she passed away I had this song played for everyone. We all wept & sang. A beautiful song w/ beautiful memories

    The words mean I am a truthful man
    From the land of the palm trees
    And before dying I want share these poems of my soul
    My poems are soft green
    My poems are also flaming crimson
    My poems are a like a wounded fawn
    seeking refuge in the forest
    The last verse says, with the poor people of this earth
    I want to share my fate,
    The streams of the mountains
    please me more than the sea

    I love this song Back in the 60s my sisters would play this song over and over again and I fell in love. The Sandpipers sang this Cuban folk song so beautifully. As I listen to it today it sounds as good as it did in those days. Such a smooth soothing haunting song. One of my all-time favorites.

    I do love this song; ever since the 60's. The chords are a simple 1-4-5 progression, but there are some beautiful (subtle) suspensions at the 5 chord, that are absolutely heavenly. The backup vocals - so sweet.

    The sound is as smooth as the mood is uplifting.
    This tune tugs at your heart, beckons you to move along to the rhythm and lose yourself in the vibrations of the wind or the lapping of waves.

    I have listened to this particular album at least once a month since it's release and have taken it around the world playing it for countless people. Every band I have ever been in has been enlightened by its content and production. They were genius' at this label.
    My most treasured possession is this original pressing with the back of the album (in red felt) autographed by the entire band as if it were passed around to each other at A&M upon release....
    This the most important collection to me on one record. by far the most outstanding production and mix (especially panning) I have ever heard. Each track has it's own subtle identities yet blended together with a masterful style and talent. I have spent a 40 year career in music trying to achieve it's sublime simplicity.....in essence. the streams of the mountains please me more than the sea.
    I can't thank enough who ever is responsible for this splendid hour of my life...
    Yours truly.

    TO ALL IMMIGRANTS BEING TREATED UNFAIRLY AT THE BORDERS AND ALL OVER

    • @pinklady7184
      @pinklady7184 2 роки тому +3

      There is nothing much on the other sides of borders. Why go there? The other side is not home, no sense of belonging there.
      While immigrants think of greener grass on the other side, they never expect to find plastic grass there. Life on the other side of any border is not rosy as their true home back in their own country.
      What do they find on the other side? Homesickness, loneliness, language barrier, poverty, struggles, unemployment, homelessness, emptiness, etc.
      Their true home is where they come from, where their own language and culture exist, where they feel their true sense of belonging among family and friends.

      @wishiwasawhale 2 роки тому +1

      Everything you say is true but you have to consider why they think the grass is greener on the other side. They could be fleeing from war or persecution. It would be great if they could stay at home and lead happy and productive lives.
