"Really love your peaches, want to shake your tree" is one of the classic lines from the 70's.
It's actually one of the classic lines of the 50's. A chunk of the lyrics for this song were STOLEN from "Lovey Dovey" by The Clovers, which came out in in 1956.
"I Said You're The Cutest Thing That I've Ever Seen
I Really Love Your Peaches, Wanna Shake Your Tree
Lovey Dovey, Lovey Dovey All The Time"
--Ahmet Ertegun / Eddie Curtis
The age of 'dirty magazines hidden from mom'. Every boy going through puberty was thinking about a centerfold pic type image or girl at school outgrowing her training bra on "shaking peaches" image painted.
@@nazfrde Didn't know that. Well I'm glad Steve Miller persisted. Censorship was intense in 1950's. That was the era Elvis was boycotted for swinging his hips. 25 years later, Michael Jackson and others grabbing their junk, Robert Plant in see thru spandex no undies on stage, Davey Lee Roth copying Plant, LoL! 700 Club almost gone finally.
@@nazfrdeAt least according to Wiki, Ahmet Ertegun and Eddie Curtis are given writing credits on the song. If that was indeed the case on the original album cover as well, I'd say they likely had permission to 'sample' they lyrics and they were borrowed, not stolen.
One of the most sensuous lyrics ever... Fantastic.
Us young stoners loved him singing that he was a midnight toker.
FLY like an EAGLE. Got goosebumps just typing this !
How many of us can relate to being the "Midnight Toker" growing up in the 70's?! Lol. So many cool catch phrases in this song...
I graduated in 77 and just recently found out Steve Miller never smoked pot. For some stupid reason I felt like I was ripped off lol
@@kraig7777 Lol. We took off and ran with that phrase anyway...
"Sir, I did not inhale!" It was the breath of life for a few years. I got out of it eventually, but I do have some fond memories of those years, I think...
FLY LIKE AN EAGLE LIVE, WINTERTIME, THE WINDOW.
A total classic. 😎
Girl you're my angel, you're my darlin'...
Steve Miller is on tour RIGHT NOW.
Whenever I hear this, I instantly think of Homer Simpson...
My fave Steve Miller Band song.
Steve Miller - guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer. Born in Milwaukee, raised in Dallas, went back up to University of Wisconsin-Madison, spent his senior year in Europe, dropped out just a few units shy to graduate. He then went to Chicago to soak up the blues scene, moved down to Austin, then found his way to San Francisco which is where he formed the Steve Miller Band in 1966 (originally the Steve Miller Blues Band). He invited his childhood friend Boz Scaggs who was in Europe at the time to fill in for the guitarist / singer who quit. Boz is on the first two Steve Miller Band albums. Other comments will fill you in about his musical upbringing.
No brainer 😅jam
While the band was formed in San Francisco, Steve Miller himself was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His family moved to Dallas, Texas when he was 7.
Fun fact: Steve's godfather is the legendary Les Paul.
Steve Miller is the singer, songwriter and guitarist. The band was founded in San Franciso and had multi-racial players. His band also launched the career of Boz Skaggs.
Steve was taught how to play by absolute legend of music (music, equipment, and recording), Les Paul. Please read about the late great Les Paul. You will not regret it and will learn a lot. A brief summary would be a disservice.
Check out other good songs by the Steve Miller Band. "Keep on Rockin' me Baby", "Jet Airliner" and "Fly like an Eagle." thanks for posting!
Both MUST HEAR Classics,, The Steve Miller Band "Living In The U.S.A." & "Space Cowboy"...TRUST ME!!
Absolutely! from 'Sailor' and 'Brave New World'...those albums are the real deal.
@@bookhouseboy280 100% Agreed 👍
❤️
Steve Miller band is from San Francisco California
This song is still played on classic rock radio stations and was a huge hit when it came out in the 70's.
Thank you for the reaction. Suggestion their song, "Jet Airliner", written by a Rhode Island, blind Jazz musician, who only success and only income for the rest of his life were the royalties from Steve Miller Band for his song Jet Airliner.
I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker... what a great line, such a fun, fun song! Steve is singing, and he was playing the slide, they are Americans from San Fransisco, and they've been around since the late 60's. I've been blessed to see them play multiple times live over several different decades....always a sing a long fest because they've got a long list of hits, plenty in that bag to smoke on for sure fella's!
Not from San Francisco - Miller was born in Wisconsin, grew up in the Dallas area where he met Boz Scaggs and formed their first band. That said, very popular in the SF music scene of the mid to late '6os.
@@timlazuka1658 the band started in San Fransisco, that's just a fact. I never commented on where Steve was born if you re-read.
@@michaelfried3123 You said "they are Americans from San Francisco," and "they" would include him. Where somebody is "from" is where they were born, in my language.
@@nazfrde go troll somewhere else dude, or learn to read.
@@michaelfried3123 Not a dude.
Another great band. Love this song.
Fun trivia: Les Paul was his godfather and taught him how to play guitar. At 12 years old Steve and Boz Scaggs formed a band. Back then we called him little Stevie Miller.
Another one: Steve never smoked pot lol. He wrote the smoker and midnight toker lines because they rhymed and fit the song!
Steve's parents were best man / maid of honor for Les Paul and Mary Ford
@@cazgerald9471And got Married in his folks back yard
That's rock and roll royalty right there
"THE STAKE"... is my favorite Steve Miller song.
Yes! The Stake is what I came here to suggest!🖖🏼
Yes !! Forgot about that and I love it too. " Nobody loves you quite (or like ) the way I do. " EPIC
Can't go wrong with Steve.
This is another whole album review another great one.
Steve Miller Greatest hits was on at every party i went to in the 80s and 90s along with Bob Marley greatest hits LOL.....
took me back in time when life was simple and good, thank you, miss the music of the 70s.
Some electric slide guitar going through some Wah Pedal for the lead guitar.. can’t beat that ..
Fly Like An Eagle should be our USA National Anthem. Steve Miller Band had serious mojo and great songs. Original and well written and produced. You couldn't have your FM radio rock station on for 2 hours in 1980's without a Steve Miller song sneaking in there. Jet Airliner was probably overplayed. Fly Like An Eagle is really special. As is this. Bongloads tunage.
Les Paul was Steve Miller's Godfather, and he taught him how to play guitar.
He is truly a Bad Ass!
Wild Mountain Honey. Not enough people do that one. It’s something else.
Yes sir the ghetto boys absolutely sampled this! Old rock ‘n’ roll made a lot of cool hip-hop songs later on down the line!
Love Steve Miller... hadn't heard this in forever. Thanks for playing it. 2.o
"Evil" from that same album is 🔥!
When I was in high school we would skip school and listen to this on 8 track all day long!!
Great band, awesome music!
I remember that album cover from when I was a kid, I'm 61 now, I remember YOUR CASH AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT TRASH is on that same album, and MARY LOU are the ones I remember.
I’m going to recommend Jungle Love as your next Steve Miller track.
Steve Miller was born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin. His mother was a blues singer and his pathologist das was a jazz recording engineer. He learned to play guitar from Les Paul who visited their home often.
The family migrated to the Dallas area in the late 70’s. I went to High school with his nephew in the late 70’s early 80’s. His parents lived not far from where I grew up (they had some of the the gold records in their entryway. He had a house in Dallas that many friends of mine got to visit with his nephew.
We are all the pompitice of love.....
Steve's dad was not only a doctor but a studio engineer, he and his wife were best man and matron at Les Paul and Mary Fords wedding, Les and Mary were Steve's God Parents
This is when they actually made the music without computers but actually played the instruments
Love this song ❤😊
Its not often you hear slide guitar with a wha wha pedal. Thats Steve Miller for ya! Great!
Steve Miller Band " The Stake" is 🔥
Playing in Connecticut this Saturday. Can’t wait. So many good songs.
His songs a very singable. Take the money and run baby!
Steve Miller went to HS with Boz Skaggs in Dallas. The SMB put on a great live show. Not surprising of course. One of the all time greats.
Little Stevie "Guitar" Miller 👍❤🤙
One of my top 5
I’ll be sitting second row from stage dead center Saturday night with Steve in CT.
this band reminds me of lazy weekday afternoon by the river on a hot summer day. Playing hooky from work with just a few close friends and our gals. BBQ going on. Music on speakers playing on the back of a pick up.
Heck ya. Good times.
Steve Miller is a VERY interesting guy....
Steve Miller is the lead guitarist and lead singer. Boz Skaggs was in his earlier band before going solo.
The original, the best. Great memories from my teen years.
I just found out very recently that Les Paul, who basically invented the electric guitar, was Steve Miller’s godfather! He saw Steve playing guitar at six years old and took him under his wing.
Such an iconic 70’s song! You can’t believe how big this was!
Peace
Steve Miller and Boz Scaggs got Texas Connections and throughout careers
I saw Steve at the Hammersmith Odeon in London in 1982. They were a great group.
Smooooothhh
Saw them in concert 74 winterland SF 🔥🎵 First time hearing this song. Peace ✌️
Guitar virtuoso Les Paul and his musical partner Mary Ford were regular visitors at the Miller house. The Millers were the best man and the matron of honor at the December 1949 Paul/Ford wedding. Paul became Steve's godfather.
Steve Miller - Fly Like an Eagle on the Midnight Special , quite a bit different than the studio version probably his biggest hit after The Joker . Great talent from a family of musicians
❤❤❤
Les Paul taught him to play guitar. I love his music. Your Saving Grace is one of my favorites.
Hope you'll find your way to play " Electro Lux Embroglio /Sacrifice ".
Best song from Steve Miller's Book Of Dreams LP.
Features Les Dudek on the smoken 🎸
Fun Fact: Don Felder of the Eagles taught Steve to play Guitar....
Steve Miller Band was formed just down Hwy 80 from you in SF and Boz was in the band while they were playing clubs in the Bay Area
Gangster of Love is an old Johnny Guitar Watson song. Y'all would love his early blues stuff and later funk music.
The window is the next song of his I would love to see you hear it for the first time
I remember when this song came out. Steve Miller Band was already known but this one makes you sit up and take notice. Esp. the solo
the video is great as well
You guys play the best tunes here
ABRACADABRA!!!
Steve Miller Band are certified hit makers
Avoid "the hits"....most bands hits are their most boring tracks...hits are decided on by Execs, not fans.
Fly like an eagle
At 3:09 I like the way Miller makes the guitar sound like a cat-call whistle. I like when instrumentalists mimic another sound. You're reactions 👍. I like that you are musicians yourself.
You really haven't gotten into Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, The Byrds, The Velvet Underground, The Kinks (early stuff) who are really the wellspring of the Rock movement after 1962, and Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Who, Black Sabbath, Allman Brothers, Hendrix aside who you've heard some of.
That's just Rock. The R&B subgenres created and changes in the 60s and 70s is a whole other paradise.
this song was on " That 70s Show" when the kids are down in the basement passing a spliff.
Cool song hey guys, nice to know you love the Simpsons too. He's has some other cool songs too, delve deep guys. Steve Miller is the guitar player and singer as far as I know. Fly like an eagle is another great song of his.
They been doing it Reggae style for years.
Love watching you guys and your analysis.
pompitous of love.......God I love the seventies. :) LOL
Love this reaction. And as a Spurs fan I love the fit!
Go Spurs Go!
I got to see Steve Miller band back in the day at the Nutter Center, in Ohio. They sounded exactly the same live.
One of my favs. Bought the vinyl and still have it.
Steve just like uncle Bob doesn't have a bad song ✌️
You should try fly like an Eagle or take the money and run by Steve Miller band.
Dallas, Texas. Birthplace of SRV, Dusty Hill, Jimmie Vaughan and thousands of others.
You guys are tops! Love the song love you
Excellent choice of song for a reaction too. Homer & Ghetto boys.. lol
Thanks again brothers for the trip down memory lane😎
I’m a Joker and Smoker and a midnight Toker ❤. Love the Simpson comment 😂😂
Taking me back in time. Check out Your Saving Grace and Mercury Blues. Thanks fellas great reaction. Much appreciated ❤
Please dig into this band, they have sooo many great songs. Fly Like An Eagle, Jet Liner, Take the Money and Run...so many.
😎👍
Stevie "Guitar" Miller...from the Midwest, Wisconsin to be exact. Yes he plays guitar and sings! He was huge in the mid-late 70's. When I was 12 "Fly like and Eagle" was my favorite song haha..
Try Steve Miller's My Dark Hour. Steve Miller and Paul McCartney, just the two of them on all instruments .... when the band was late.
Steve Miller Band has a slow groove like nobody else. Keep On Rocking Me Baby and Fly Like An Eagle could play all day on a loop.✌️
Wild Mountain Honey...
Listen to Steve Miller Band Number 5 to get an idea of where Steve was at before the commercial side of him emerged. Also the album Anthology will blow your mind. Paul McCartney is ppaying the drums and backup volcals on My Dark Hour
A MUST listen to cut on the album.
Another 8-track flashback, cranked this on my Craig under dash player driving back and forth in high school.
Pompatus is a nonce word coined by Steve Miller in his hit single "The Joker" (1973). Dude invented his own word.
