- You may remember in one of my previous vlogs when I stood in front of a 'sau tabu' or chiefly burial grounds in the village of Cuvu. I was hoping to see the magnificent sau tabu in the village of Viseisei, Vuda. Unfortunately, it wasn't that easy. I needed to follow protocol. I will return in order to get this done but, for the time being, I had a look around Viseisei village.

Bula Mr. Khan. Thank you for bringing and sharing our history and mythology.ihave been watching mist of your posts. I have a request. If possible, can you try and find out and maybe being us an episode of the legend of the this gave that is supposedly somewhere in the Nakauvadra mountains where the mythical God Kaalia or adegei is soppised to reside or had resided. This is a cave which has water, and the water is b r lived to be salt or sea water. Will appreciate it very much if you are able to do this.

Traditional fijian! I was expecting fijian style houses but also nice to see modern homes, mentained nicely 😀 👌
Sadly, the traditional ones are rarely seen these days.
I love Viseisei Village and Vuda Point. I spent a 3 months 'housesitting' a friend's sailboat at Vuda Marina and got to know the people and the area well. I'd LOVE to live there!

we used to go to Vuda point a lot to swim when we were younger!Was soo beautiful and I remember a big pond there that used to have a lot of water lillies in them,I loved exploring the place.This was all before the Marina was built.
Rory, you have some fascinating memories of the place. Vuda was also noted for its rich archaeological remains most of which have been permanently lost under the marina.
@@ThePaleBlueDot Yeah I do have lots of memories,most of them made in the western part of Fiji.I left there in 2001 and havnt been back since.So your videos allow me to see Fiji and I miss it.Listening to you talk to the locals reminds me of words I have not used in 21 years! So its good to be reminded of them again along with the memories.
@@rorynesta7766 Thank you, Rory. I want to expand my range to cover the whole of the South Pacific (countries otherwise known as 'Pasifika') but for the time being, I'm building a foundation in Fiji Plus I want to be based and focused here.

The first burial ground shown to you by Livai is the burial ground of the SAUTURAGA. The SAUTURAGA are the traditional king makers. A sub clan of the chiefly clan/chiefly household that installs the chief. They are not story tellers or keepers of stories.
Vinaka. I would like to visit the chiefly sautabu and I gather I would have to approach the chiefly clan of which the late Tevita Momoedonu was a part.

You just cant walk into a village you have to pay respect to be allowed. If I recall this village is on both sides of the road its quite large and you have to drive through slowly its also very clean and tidy too. The commentator in this makes lots of mistakes for someone who thinks he knows and literally invited himself to the birthday celebrations instead of waiting to be invited.
Perhaps you didn't quite grasp what was going on but I was being given a tour at the invitation of someone living in the village. No, the village is only on one side of the road. Ordinarily, to enter a Fijian village, you have to do a "sevusevu" which means handing over kava to the turaga-ni-koro (the village headman). I did that (not shown). As for the Tui Vuda's (paramount chief of Vuda of which Viseisei is a part) birthday, I didn't need to be invited. I can invite myself. However, I did present some kava to him on the day. I was received very graciously by the Tui Vuda who, together with others present, knew my family personally and said I was to be treated with the greatest respect. There were no mistakes made. PS. I also took quite a few photos of and for the Tui Vuda with my DLSR camera.
