LSU fan for decades. After Joe Burrow, Chase and Jefferson in 2019, I thought I saw the best college QB-WR combo ever. Jayden Daniels, Nabors and Brian Thomas Jr. topped that combo in 2023. No question in my mind, if LSU had a defense, the 2023 team would have won the national championship. Daniels was a joy to watch. I watched your reactions. Amazing wasn't it?
As an Arizona State fan I couldn’t be happier for him. Glad he had a chance to escape our shambolic football program to go to a school where he could shine
Jayden Daniels was co-favorite preseason to win the Heisman trophy with Williams, but due to LSU suffering two losses in their first five games he fell under the radar. Slowly as the season went on his numbers were just too good to ignore, and his versatility as a passer and runner were the best in the country. He played 6 top 50 defenses and had the best quarterback rating and passer rating of any Heisman winner ever. He led them to a road win against an undefeated Missouri which included TDs on 4 of his last 5 drives while having a rib injury. He tore apart Alabama’s defense before taking a roughing the passer hit that gave him a concussion at the start of the 4th quarter. Against Florida he broke records for passing and rushing yards combined in a game. Truly a special player and a very deserving Heisman winner
His two receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas were the leaders in the country in receiving yards and TD’s. I would recommend you watch their individual highlights.🔥
This is a very underrated LSU team because their defense was very poor. This offense is very comparable to the 2019 offense with a heisman winner at QB and two receivers predicted to be first rounders.
The reason he wasnt mentioned prolly as much was he had the worst defense in college football which made his games less impactful when he didnt end up winning them. Its definitely a testament to how good a player he is that despite not having too much success in the win/loss column he still winded up winning the heisman trophy. Special is what I use to describe him. Just special.
On top of being the athlete he is, he’s just a good, Level headed guy. Really appreciate that about him on the field. So sad the defense hand he was dealt. He was beyond incredible. I cannot imagine if we had the defenses of the past paired with this offense,QB, and Malik and Thomas. Geaux Tigers!
Grambling is a historically black university (HBCU, if you ever run across the acronym) also in Louisiana. LSU also plays Southern which is another HBCU, located in the same city (Baton Rouge)
what’s up guys love the videos. Jayden Daniels is the most electric player i’ve ever seen in person. never thought i would seen another qb like Burrow.
At 3:13 on the QB run, Jayden had just been taken out of the game with a rib injury. He was wincing on the sideline barely throwing. That play was absolutely huge for LSU's comeback. Cheers!
FYI scramble is when the QB takes off running but that wasn’t the intention of the play! Also, Jayden had a habit of running high so he is susceptible to a lot of heavy hits.
Those rainbow throws are freaking great how he slots them. A scramble, from my understanding at least, is when a QB run is not the designed play. So you'll often hear the commentators say "QB draw" or "designed play" when the QB runs it either on a fake handoff or direct snap. You'll also often hear "broken play" when the routes are finished and no one is open so the QB has to make something happen so they "scramble".
Well stated and dead-on right. The introduction of RPO (run/pass option) into modern offenses has lead to a lot more QB runs. I know it is a gray area but I consider that type of QB run a "designed" run.
03:25 is called a Run Pass Option (RPO) where the QB decides whether or not he hands off the ball, throw the ball, or keep it and run it himself. A lot of Jayden's big plays came off plays where he would run it himself. Scrambling is when the passing play breaks down and the QB has to get out of it. 06:00 is a scramble.
Crazy to think that JD5 stats were on par or better than Burrow during the 2019 season as well and Nabors and Thomas’s number rivaling Chase and JJ….if we had any sort of defense who knows how this season would have gone for us. Geaux Tigers!
He did not get his deep game going until this year. He finally got it going and LOOK OUT. He changes the whole dynamics of the game and provides instant momentum. It was frustrating in 22 watching him looking confused staring downfield with wide open receivers and then take of running. LSU QB coach Joe Sloan is amazing developing high end QBs.... I am an LSU season ticket holder..... JD has been amazing to watch develop
You are a fool. He wasn't confused he was being cautious, especially with people like you in his back. Everyone wanted the backup to play so why would he risk interceptions. He had no chemistry with the recievers and got to LSU late so he was still unfamiliar so he trust what he knew and that was running. The recievers also dropped many balls. They were sec west Champs. So ungrateful you people are.
On what you said about quarterback runs, scrambling is whenever the quarterback runs and it isn’t designed on the play. Whenever a quarterback is a a good runner like this however, a lot of times the coaches will draw up plays intentionally running them. Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether it’s designed or not but usually in a designed quarterback run the quarterback doesn’t look to pass the ball and runs immediately. Or, there is a play called quarterback draw where he looks up for a second or two not as long as usual and takes off once he’s looked long enough to get the defense to drop back a little
A half decent defense and LSU could have been a playoff team. A little bit of a disappointing season for LSU probably contributed to the lack of Jayden Daniels requests.
1:52 Grambling is an Fcs school out of Lincoln parish Louisiana the history they have there is crazy. They have the second most wins under their best head coach Eddie G Robinson. Though these days they stink.
Basically all of the plays up until you paused to ask the questions were QB draw plays, where he drops back, holds for two beats for the middle linebackers to move towards covering the flats, then runs right up the middle with no resistance until the safeties. Later plays were mostly scramble plays (aside from one straight fake-option QB run play). I'd forgotten that he broke Deontae Lawson's ankles (at 6:00).
You guys are correct Jayden was not mentioned earlier in the season because his performance came out of nowhere as a LSU fan if anyone besides players on the team or his parents said they saw that coming they are lying
Scrambling is all done behind the line of scrimmage. It can turn into a run, if he goes past the line. The best scrambling qb in NFL history is Fran Tarkenton. He has a whole highlight reel of just him scrambling.
@@jefftee448Sure, Lamar was a good passer in a pro-style offense in college, but a lot of dudes come out as more polished passers, especially 23 year olds like Jayden (Lamar was only 21). It's and HBCU that plays in Division I FCS and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), the same conference that Jackson State (where Deion coached) play in. 3:33 - Damo is correct. Scrambling is when the QB is running around trying to avoid the sack. He can scramble and then still throw, or he could scramble and run (the whole action there could also just be called scrambling), or he could drop back see no one's open and just take off which could also be called scrambling in my opinion but probably less so. Additionally, yes, the play could be a designed run like a read option where the QB chooses to keep the ball, a QB draw where the QB fakes the pass but runs, or a QB dive where it's pretty much run all the way. 5:21 - I don't THINK that's a horse collar because I only see him grab his shoulders and not the collar of the shirt or shoulder pads (if he did, it would be). As for rag-dolling a guy into the legs of another player? I don't know of any rule prohibiting it but it IS pretty savage.

It’s the QBs responsibility to avoid big hits, not the defenses job to let him down gently. That particular tackle actually wasn’t even as bad as it looked. If anything, the Alabama defender who got Daniels’ body thrown into him probably took the worse of it lol
