I think Shutterstock ruled by "BOTS" so after facing 10 times rejections like subject is not in focus I just leave Shutterstock and upload on iStock and it get accepted wisely 🤝.
It's nothing like that. Shutterstock is very strict and only accepts the best and istock accepts anything now.. Thats the truth 😅

November month has been the month of highest rejections on Shutterstock. The same reason "The main subject of this image is not in focus".............. Frustration is same photographs are very well accepted by other stock agencies.........

You nailed it Dada. Like many of us I too have got this rejection many times. Its a shame. I was quite disappointed recently when Shutterstock rejected 18 images of the total 25 I uploaded and that too within an hour and half after the pics were uploaded. Yes, I had mentioned 'Selective Focus', 'Blur Background' etc.... in the title. To my utter surprise all these photos (except 2-3) were accepted by other stock agencies. I have experienced this more after I have been uploading more quality photos on Shutterstock. So what I have concluded is that the review process of Shutterstock is more strict gradually over time.
You are right... But It's not strict.. Its wrong.. Strictness can be avoided with good photos. But they are rejecting good photos too 😒

Ive just started doing shutterstock for fun and cuse i want extra cash rn and i like photography so why not combine it this was very helpful shutterstock can hurt the fealing of new photographers as they dont know what is happening and they will think that they suck at photography wich is a shame

I admire your positive mindset. You are right, the reviewers have nothing against contributors so rejection shouldn't be taken personally. I have few photos that were rejected by Shutterstock but accepted by Adobe Stock. Recently, I discovered 2 Lightroom sliders that increase my acceptance to Adobe, ands these 2 sliders are luminance and color noise reduction. So easy to use, just hold option key (Mac) while adjusting the sliders until the noise is beautifully and gradually reduced. Tada! Thanks for this video.

My 10 photos got selected out of 12 photos.
earlier most of my photos got rejected and the least expected one's got accepted
But now the photos which I have accurately expected to be accepted has been accepted.
Now I have now some idea how to upload photos that will not get rejected

I read on the internet that one person before got 99% of his photos accepted. But when Shutterstock and Adobe switched to AI review - this percentage went down to only 40% accepted. This has been my experience too. About only 40-50% of my photos are accepted - even though I use a Canon R5 with very expensive lenses. How insane is AI? Once I took a photo of a dump truck unloading gravel. Was tons of dust! Why was the photo rejected? Dust and grain!!!!

I had submitted almost 24 images. I started to upload last weak. But all of my photo had rejected due to this focus issue and some of with noise issue. But I had got a mail 2 days before that "welcome to shutterstock. You are now a contributer" I don't know how. But now my problem is they are not accepting any of my photo I had reaploaded. Note that weekends are the worst time for rejections on shutterstock. Someone on their forum emailed & told me that. So definitely upload during the week. & put focus on foreground Or selective focus. BUT if too little of the image is in focus , it'll be rejected. I'll try my old Minolta lens & retake the photo rejected to see if it's sharper if yes fair enough. if not then shutterstock are wrong.
Even though you deleted your 1000 word rant about shutterstock I will still reply... It's about consistency. I have crossed 1000 usd. If you give up after rejection and have only a portfolio of 35 photos then consider yourself extremely lucky on those sales. Its true the income is not gonna make any Contributor rich overnight but there's nothing called easy money and that too money for those photographs which would have remained in hard drive anyway. (10c come on, why do you still bother with them) WWhy can't you admit thaqt they're wrong sometimes? the CEO knows nothing about media and photography and just boasts about A.I. They recently reject very good quality photos which are entirely in focus at f8 or f11 & say there's noise in a photo when there isn't Their reviewers or A. I. mistake trees & foliage for noise.. I checked at 100% shot in raw at low ISO & converted to high q JPEG photos so Shutterstk are wrong about 50% of the time AND no other agency rejects them. Remember they don't use human reviewers most of the time, they use A.I. which doesn't work to review. I am 33c to payout so will leave then cos they're not going to change

I have also had photographs accepted by Adobe, iStock and Alamy that have been turned down by Shutterstock due to the photo being out of focus. I’ve asked my photography instructors at college if they think the focus is too soft. They’ve always said no.
I’ve tried to improve my focus to get it tack sharp, but I’ve recently read that some lenses are sharper than others. I have enthusiasts-grade Nikon and Nikor lens. My zoom is not fast. So maybe a small portion of the problem is because of my lens. I don’t know. But this issue has made me mindful of focus.
As for artifacts... if you’re using Camera Raw (probably Lightroom too) be very careful of using the dehaze or clarity sliders. If I use those sliders above 3 or 4, Shutterstock tends to reject for artifacts. I try not to use those two sliders at all when uploading to Shutterstock.
Absolutely.. Its better to avoid clarity and dehaze totally.. To make the image pop, just tweaking the contrast and levels are fine to avoid getting into rejection due to artefacts 😅
The Teaching Doc Yes, I do that. Some photos need a bit on help when taken under harsh lighting conditions.
I recently took some candid event photos on a morning with a lot of glare. I used clarity and dehaze then as I was giving them to the event. Shutterstock is rejecting some because of artifacts.
Alamy accepted all 24 photos! Not that I’ll sell any on Alamy. 🙄
iStock doesn’t want to accept the event photos because that’s strictly a Getty thing. I could apply to Getty, but they usually only accept photojournalists. So even though the JDRF want me back next year (as a volunteer photographer), Getty won’t accept me.

On Thursday I uploaded 20 images to shutterstock of which 16 were accepted. Yesterday I uploaded 22 from the same original batch (so taken at the same time, in the same light and of the same subjects etc) and they rejected every single one!! Out of focus, noise etc. The pictures were near identical in quality so it has to be that the curator just decided to reject everything on a whim. I'm pretty angry right now. Shutterstocks website says "simply re-upload them" well Where's the magical re-upload button? There isn't one! Im not amused 😡

Bro, I'm going through the same with them. I got used to pixel peeping @ 200% or higher and nitpicking the heck out of my pics and got to an 85% success rate. They just shot down 6 of 8 over the weekend. One was for underexposure. That pic is lighter than the Atlanta nighttime panoramic that they sold for $500 two years ago! Like WTF??? Not everyone likes cartoonishly bright overprocessed garbage. But, I guess they do now. 😕

OMG This is happening to almost ALL of my Pictures! stating the "Main subject is not in focus" .. When as a artist or photographer I chose it to be that way, I chose for the portrait to look like a portrait in the back to look blurred because of the aperture etc, so why does shutter stock reject it all together? I'll take two pictures of the same object or same scene one with no enhancing no portrait effect nothing white balance all out of whack and that one will get uploaded and the ones that I've found tuned and made look a hundred times better and light room are another photo editor, or simply by taking a picture the right way gets rejected and the plain Jane the one gets accepted.

Noise / Film Grain : Content contains chrominance noise, luminance noise, sharpening noise, or film grain that detracts from the main subject.
Focus: The main subject is out of focus or is not in focus due to camera shake, motion blur, overuse of noise reduction, or technical limitations of the equipment used (e.g. autofocus searching, camera sensor quality, etc).
Missing Model Release: A model release is required for this submission but was not provided.

Relax. There is no limit to accepted or rejected photo. Once your account is activated then you can have infinite number of rejections :)

Teaching doc I am new to ss only a couple months I have watched this video many times tried writing shallow depth of field it is not working is there anything else I only have a portfolio of 3 images I have submitted more than 100 images but all say not in focus one image in my portfolio is actually not in focus and I was surprised when they accepted that but not the sharp images.Is there a certain shutter speed you need or something. I have tried about everything .

Hey! Just a question, why does shutterstock keep rejecting me by the reason of "The image is pixalated or not sharp/too much noise"? Almost áll of my good looking photos are rejected. (i use dslr and not phone) and i Edit them in Adobe light room.

OMG. I get this often! But other stock platforms like Adobe, Alamy and iStock accept them. This has been confusing. I’ll now listen to your video. But it sure helps to know it’s not just me.
Another one I get turned down for is for excessive artifacts, but 9/10 those images are accepted by other stock platforms. Does anyone else get that?

It means you need to upload the original source image which you edited. You need to upload it as property release...
All vid mix You have to upload the reference file as a small JPEG. It shows up under Releases.
I took one of my photos and applied filters to it to make it look like a weird looking background. They called it an Illustration, and I had to upload the original pic as a small JPEG to prove it was mine.
So... as for Illustrations, if you use a photo as a guide, that photo needs to be your own. They will not accept someone else’s photo as the reference file.
If you’re drawing and creating freehand, that’s all good. Still need the reference file tho.

It means you have to click properly. An improper optical photograph cannot be edited even if tried hard. I cannot comment without seeing the photo but reviewer decision is final so try to improve camera clicks is what all I can say. All the best

No idea. But you need a large 24 inch color calibrated monitor and zoom the photo to 100% and then check sharpness. Shutterstock checks after 100% zoom.

In Adobe Photoshop l increased the clarity and sharpen of the image that not got accepted and after that it got accepted.

I'm a new contributor in Shutterstock. In my experience, I upload more than 40 photos but they never accepted one of my photos. This is really hurt but I never give up, hope one day they will accept my beautiful photos. Thank The Teaching Doc for sharing and advice.

Yes beginners who don't know photography very well but try to sell that have this problem. First learn and then earn...one u have mastered photo graphy Shutterstock will not reject. Facebook and Instagram make every one think that he is great due to 100 likes 😂😂

I have made Shutterstock profile a few days ago. My first image had rejected, and today my second image have rejected by the same reason. How I resubmit my image. I use contributor app and there is no option to resubmition. And I didn't get any email of rejection by Shutterstock..... Please let me know.thankuuuuuu

I don't think you have seen my Shutterstock updated terms and conditions video. Anyways answer to your question is absolutely yes. Never upload similar looking images. That is considered spamming and will invite account ban

These questions don't have any value. Number doesn't matter. Quality matters. 😁
But I would save maybe 5000 high quality diverse commerical properly model released colour graded pics can get you there. Good luck.

Thank you bhaii. It really works the photo one I have uploaded was rejected for the out of focus issue. Adding a title of selective Focus in the image helps out to get approved for the exact same image.🤝
