- Join me as I take on the challenge of restoring a 1980s New Bright Atomic Powered Robot!
This classic "bum and go" robot has seen better days, but with some careful attention and a bit of ingenuity, I’ve brought it back to life. In this video, you’ll see:
Replacing Cracked Gears: Watch as I meticulously replace the cracked gears that were hindering the robot’s movement.
Creating New Wheels: Using pulleys and O-rings, I craft new wheels to get the robot rolling smoothly again.
Enhancing the Smoke Effect: The robot’s signature smoke effect gets an upgrade and works better than ever.
Repairing the Record Player: I give the internal record player some much-needed TLC, bringing back its charming voice that says, "I am the atomic powered robot, please give my best wishes to everybody."
Cleaning the Motors: The motors receive a thorough cleaning, ensuring the robot runs like new.
Whether you're a fan of vintage robots, interested in mechanical restoration, or just love seeing old toys brought back to life, this video is for you. Watch the full process and see this atomic powered robot restored to its former glory!

I used to have one of those! It didn't bring peace, but there was a little happiness.
Best message from a robot, ever. Thanks for another great video, Randi.
I won the auction for this and I'm looking forward to adding it to my small, but growing, robot collection.
Thanks for sharing the robot building traditions at the start 😂 and best atomic powered wishes to you for fixing this little fella right up!
I'm full of made-up traditions. Glad you enjoyed it.
He looks awesome hanging out with my Omnibots. You did an amazing job on this restoration.
Looking forward to the video about the smoke-thing part. Great video as always.
I had him as a toddler - it was my FAVORITE toy - especially the smoke rings!
I had a cousin that had it.
Very cool robot! Glad you got it back up and running!
Oh my god that has to be the sickest collection I've ever seen
Thank you. I've been working on it for almost six years now. Everyone has been refurbished and all have a video.
My brother still have one , it's in gold color and speak in german. ( a gift from my father vacation in Germany late 80's)
Of all the toys I remember having as a kid, the ones I remember with the most fondness are the Tomy handheld games, the Disney handheld movie viewer with the cartridges and most of all, a Marx Shooting Gallery game. I loved that thing. It was completely enclosed and it had a gun attached and it could fire either single shot or machine gun. Of course, Pong and Atari 2600, but I was a bit older for the 2600. I think I was 12 or 13 when I got it. I don't think I ever had a robot. From what I recall, they just weren't around when I was age appropriate for them.
The first toy robot was the Lilliput from the 1930s. Toy robots have been made in abundance since the 1950s after the sci-fi boom in movies.
So, it wasn't because they weren't around, just not on your radar. The vast majority of robots that I own, I don't remember. I really only remember, and had, the TOMY robots.
Why does his voice make me think of South Park?
Well, a very cool toy, hope he goes to a good home!
Randi Rain has all the best stuff. Make sure to will your stuff to someone who will take care of it in case a big pile of retro toys falls and buries you.
I remember when I was a kid my friend has this. Also, his generates smoke. This has the exact voice audio.
I never forget the voice audio because I always remember that it had a Robot accent at first then the accent changes to Italian when it says "Please give my best wishes to everybody".. which is weird and funny.
Throughout the years, I was questioning if my memory served me right. This confirmed it. LOL
I'm sure this was it. They made a bunch of these.
I wonder how much they paid the guy to record this.?or did he receive small royalties over time
Heh! I had one of these. We reversed the polarity on the voice motor. He said something that sounded like "fear not, for I have no hair"
That summons demons. Didn't you learn anything from the Satanic Panic?
@wimwiddershins
"Fear not, for I have no hair!"
* *Colin Mochrie appears* *
"Whaddya want?! As a demon, I charge hourly."
I LOVE what you do!!!
🤖 Please give my best wishes to everybodeh 🤖
Nice one as usual! I'm always fascinated by those little record players. Also funny bloopers at the end.
Yes, I want one from the Bag of Laughs.
"Give my best wishes to everybody" he says as he seems to be mowing down humans with his laser gun, by the sound of it 😂At least the robot has a sense of humor.
It's a smoker and a joker.
cool 👍
Nice one, I still need to fix mine as been too busy with other stuff and health playing up, still need to find him a battery door and have now found my Pino who atleast wants a wheel for one of his feet and a battery cover, he however may be getting a Fallout inspired make over as he's got a passing resemblance to Liberty prime.
I may have a battery door come to think of it. It's all about finding it. Contact me privately sometime and I'll look for it.
@@RandiRain Thanks Randi, I'll send over a message at somepoint, I'm in the UK but it shouldn't be too heavy on the postage.
Surprised you haven't got all the colours! I think I have, although hoping there might be some rare variations out there!
At one time I was collecting them and had a bunch of the colors.
@@RandiRain Oh another thing to note, which you might know already. One tyre is larger than the other to compensate for the pull to one side. You will note that when worn, they no longer drive in a straight line...
@@ollyk22 Interesting... I did not know that. Thank you very much.
@@RandiRain no problem, keep up the great work 🙂
is the four screwed virtues a true thing??? also what do you insert to the smoke generator????
Of course not. Don't ever believe any nonsense like that from me. The smoke is made from just 3 in 1 oil. I'm going to be doing a video on just the smoke maker soon.
This is how the AI rebellion starts
Like I've said many times, I for one welcome our robot overlords.
@@RandiRain Easy for you to say - they'll keep you around to fix 'em! :)
Hey Randi rain do you know what that robot from New bright.
Yes. In the video description I mention it's from New Bright.
Tab soda?
Exactly... Disgusting soda.
It was so stupid when they banned radioactive toys, just because a few kids died of radiation poisoning. And that critical mass that wiped out a small town in Iowa.
I know... What could have possibly been the problem?
@@RandiRain Lazy parents who won't take responsibility by buying iodine tablets and bathing their kids in Chlorox!
@ian_b
I, for one have welcomed our atomic overlords. So, I can't sleep at night because I glow a funny color. It's fine.
@@brianm6337 This is a good use case for Atomic Dark Glasses, available at your local toy store. Living in the Atomic Age does have some minor tradeoffs...
i would swap you my R.A.D. Robot - 1998 - Remote Control - Toymax
for one of your
Radio Shack Robie the banker robots
If it was any other robot, I'd probably do it. Those are an easy fix. I could always do more, but the RAD robots are some of my least favorite robots there is. I have a RAD 4 that I haven't even touched, and a RAD 2 that I think is extremely annoying.
@@RandiRain Robie are cool i have been looking for one for a long time .. love the little dance it does when it eats a coin 🥰
@@FSK1138 Are you not in the US? Because they're a dime a dozen here.
