Fighting Coercive Control - Small steps for Hannah - Hannah Clarke, Sue and Lloyd Clarke | I Catch Killers
All that Sue and Lloyd Clarke have of their daughter Hannah Clarke are her footprints. Those prints inspired Small Steps For Hannah - a foundation working to stop the cycle of domestic violence. Sue and Lloyd join Gary Jubelin to discuss red flags, coercive control and what is being done to put an end to it.

Problem is that someone can still get a DVO on someone without any charges. I have one currently on me because I wouldn’t let someone come to my home because they were still in contact with my ex.(recommended by Police) Magistrate ignored my testimony my evidence including breaches, then cancelled my DVO on him and granted his? I wish I was joking but I literally have it on paper in the transcript, it blows my mind.
Thanks to Hannah’s Parents for bringing light to it but sadly this is going to take a very very long time before the justice system actually acts on it. Justice System already doesn’t even follow laws or rules that are already in place. 😢

What a great podcast and what amazing people the Clarkes are having to relive their family’s heartache over and over so they can save other women and young children. Well done Gary and Mr & Mrs Clarke.👏👏👏👏

I just want to express my thanks for the funding put thru to Centre for Women & Co here in Redland Bay, the changes they are helping to make in people's lives are massive.

I think of Hannah & her children often. I’m from New Zealand and my heart broke when it was reported. I really wish this never happened to your family 💛🩷🩷💙

Great idea re the ankle bracelet but they don't have the resources. Plus DV and coercive control is such a massive issue out there, prob the government wouldn't want to be liable. Too big of a problem
Incredible people. What amazing people. The trauma they go through is unimaginable. Big hugs to them

They need psychological intervention, debrief of their trauma and causative issues, and to be given skills to navigate their ptsd, bpd, trauma, history of abuse (upon themselves and others) etc. It doesn't fix itself. And women and other "weaker" men have been their punching bags for too long. The issue is generations deep and cultural as well as individual. IN the case of this guy and Daniel Billing, both had left previous relationships with a child and that is a deep grief and trauma, that needs to be addressed and that probably fuelled his narcissism and need to have the relationship appear as flawless and happy. The guy clearly wasn't coping, with the idea of loss or abandonment, etc. Also those children were put in harms way by staying in the relationship. that needs to be recognised. it's not just about the mother. Kids absorb, learn , take on, react to and repeat what they are exposed to. So staying can be as an act of abuse. How you deal with contact with someone with a 'criminal mind' is different to someone who is going through trauma and grief. It needs to be nuanced and assisted. They aren't going to seek help and often the help falls short / is second rate (there needs to be a review of the psychotherapeutic services). Definitely a holding cell / help centre specifically treating people with this issue is needed.

Gary u said in your other video that u were kicked out of the home u were living in with your detective longtime partner. Cut through the BS here, your bad behaviour that u confessed to must of been very bad to be forced out. Maybe it was bad behaviour over a long period of time & she had had enough.
If the details had been reported to Police a DV/AVO order would no doubt have been issued with u as the perpetrator.
Are u going to put your offending behaviour details under your name in the national DV register your so keen on? Do u think u should wear an ankle tracker because of your DV incident that night?
I'm not writing this to have a go at u. I think your a good guy. I wish we all could discuss DV as its one of the most important issues in our society.

I really love the idea of the ankle bracelet! I’d even volunteer to wear one too, so that my location can give relevance to the person I’m afraid of coming close to me and monitoring me. It would also end the counter claim that women often lie about being threatened.

My heart goes out to you and your family, this effects way to many people, when you get into a relationship you are not owned, never get into one if you are looking for that other person to make you happy or what they can do for you. Happiness comes from with in and a good relationship is when you both want to do the best for each other with no expectation

Do you know someone in this kind of relationship? Talk to her, let her know you are there for whatever she might need to get out.

With any new legislation, I worry about how it can be abused. Good intentions can lead to bad outcomes.

Its anti-men & in fact a great injustice to make laws criminalizing 10x thousands of aussies for making funny jokes about their wives & having couple arguments.
Its so so far off the mark to protecting women from being murdered.
