It amazes me how vitriolic people get at the mere suggestion that they could give money for enjoying a creative work. Who the hell are these people who make no contribution to the final product (and are still able to enjoy it for free)...complaining that the person who put time and work into the product might like to receive some compensation for their efforts?
NSC, I wish you all the best and can't wait to see what videos you make. Hell, I'll even kick in a dollar myself. Creativity is sufficient, not dependant. And you sir are quite creative (especially for a guy using MS Paint ;-)

As I watch the pledges build, I'm really pleased that the majority, overwhelmingly, are for amounts of one or two bucks. That's great, as it's painful for nobody, and it can add up eventually. :)

For all you criers who cry about begging etc. He is not forcing you to give money, you are free to do so or not. Don't want to give money? Don't give it, no need to cry about it.

+Eitan Blumin (BigHeadAtheist) if you regard begging in the definition of asking earnestly or humbly, sure. but most people, when thinking of the meaning of begging, i believe would be in the context of asking over and over or trying to tie the request to something that is supposed to tug on the heart string of someone or make them feel guilty if the request is refused. but yeah, people in general that claim individuals that put out a service like nonstampcollector for free then asking those that enjoy the service is begging then companies like hulu should be seen as despicable.

In any case, I don't berate NSC for "begging" (or however you wanna call it).
NSC probably has a lot on his mind in his real life, and he can't afford to work on these cartoons more often.
I can understand it and I think it's a totally legitimate thing to do.

Don't be one of those guys who you never hear from until finally an e-begging video pops up. I would have liked you to have produced maybe two recent videos (over the past 3-4 months, at least) before the begging started. It would just feel better to me. Even Mr. Deity usually begs at the end of his videos, not INSTEAD of a video. But what's done is done. I hope that you'll at least produce more for those who are supporting you.

Anybody who devotes their time and effort to making content at LEAST has the right to ASK for compensation. That's the best part about patreon in my view. Those who don't want to pay for the content don't have to. Those who do feel moved to pay for it, can do so. And I love the fact that channels such as this wait till they get big before asking for compensation. Once a channel gets tens of thousands of subscribers, the product is obviously valued by the market. Good for you NSC on your success and I hope you can turn your valuable content into a successful business. Cheers.

I myself would feel as though I had to be held accountable to people who paid money on a rolling billing cycle, so I don't do it.
That said, we all want to find a way to work for ourselves, and if people enjoy paying money/"donating" and or can afford it, no problem.

I honestly had no idea what Patreon was until recently, but I barely use other social media platforms, so that does not surprise me. I usually just prefer to communicate in person because it is more meaningful.

+onelovecandy I'd love to do a follow up to it. It turns out to be a tough act to follow, though. I can't believe it only took about 3 weeks to produce that, and it involved a complete change of direction half way through when I realised I could make it focus on contradictions.
Anyway, with no shortage of subject material, it might be something I can look at over the winter!

I know this is hard to estimate with projects that are stretched out over a long period of time, but what do you think how many hours it takes to make one (average) video?
+NNOTM Very very difficult to say, but the next one will run for about 7 minutes but will have taken as much as 15-20 hours total maybe? maybe more.,... It's spread over the last 5 months and however long it takes to find what I think will be about 5 more hours of drawing and audio editing. That's a very rough guess.

One thing I don't understand with Patreon: What happens in the hypothetical example where +NonStampCollector produces 30 videos during one month. Am I just charged 30$? I would love to become a Patreon, but I also want to know what the theoretical limit (if there is one) for how much you could be charged is.
+Martin Larsson You can cap it at $x per month. And anyway, if the one video that I do put out in one month is shit, you can decline to go through with the pledge anyway. I think the Patreon company is more concerned with keeping pledgers happy than pledgees, - as it should.

You have my full support NSC. Your videos where among the first I had seen years ago that dealt with these topics. At the time I was early on in finding my place as an atheist and you helped me to not only laugh at the absurdity of religion, but also to continue to strengthen my reasoning and communication skills to better share my position with others.
