Ive been looking to hear this accapella of "sitting at the edge of my bed" man ! I remember this when i heard it on one of those mr magic cassettes i used to record. I was like man this is underground.
Fantastic! Originally recorded this on a mono tape recorder from the Mike Allen show as a teenager. Still sounds so effortlessly powerful and atmospheric.
Classic sh!t DBL Crew BMC Stand Tall…we was proud af of them,Donnie D was a cool dope ass dude,he called me Lil Donnie D (Dontay) from around da way iykyk
yep "eric b for president" came out in 86 and changed the hip hop landscape - from drum machines to more funk based samples in the same year ..those were the days!
Hip Hop changed tonnes in the early 80s. Went from focus being on the DJ, to the having old school original MC stars with Kurtis Blow, Melle Mel, etc to the 'new school' of LL Cool J in 1985, Run-DMC, rest of Def Jam, etc before like you say Rakim, KRS, Kane, etc coming into the fold. The ten years from Rapper's Delight being the first commercial Hip Hop song up to the last year of the 80s was probably Hip Hop's biggest period of change. So it's inevitable with such rapid change that something would seem outdated in retrospect for just beings months or so out of touch with the current sound
that is not the andy griffin sample, it is some other sample that de la soul got slammed for sampling on one of the early track got sued big time. ,,,,, i can't remember the correct sample tho...
