Reviewing the Silvercrest Slide and Negative Scanner

- This is an older model that was originally sold through Lidl supermarkets. My wife purchased this as a goft for me several years ago, and I have only just gotten around to using it now. The original cost of the unit was 29.99 EUROS and that was a mark down price as it was a last unit. No surprises upon opening the box the unit was complete and in good shape. Operation was straightforward despite the challenging looking users manual. I took the liberty of comparing several other models available on the Market today.
1. Kodak Slide N' Scan 5" LCD Display. Price; 200 EUROS Reviews 4.8 Stars on Amazon
2. Rollei PDF-S 240 SE Multi Scanner for Photos, slides, and Negatives. (including image editing software). Price: 114 EUROS Reviews: 3.5 stars on Amazon. There were a number of negative comments on this unit, so be sure to check and see if they have responded accordingly to the ciriticism.
3. Reflector: The unit I reviewed is the X-33 Scan Slide Scanner Series 64530 With Blue tooth tech. Price was 158.81 EUROS and the reveiws while mixed were higher than for the Rollei. with 4 stars average.
Finally there was a high tech (what I presume to be a professional model) offered by DIGITNOW. Their product was described as: "igh resolution 135 movie/slide scanner, slide viewer and convert from 35mm negative film & slide to digital JPEG Save to SD card, with slide input Feeder No computer / software required. " Price : 1,096.20 EUROs.
After the comparisson shopping, I was pleased with my gift and the quality of the reusults it provided.
Hello Everyine, I have been remiss. I appreciate your pateince between writing, teaching and travel vlogs, I was abit overwhelemed. I promise once I return to Belgium, I will definitely get to reviewing the negatives function, as I need to put this to good use.
I just picked up one of these Silvercrest scanners in a charity shop last weekend for £5. I'm very happy with the results. Much better than a similar device from a different manufacturer that I got a few years ago. Don't forget that you can scan 35mm negatives also and converts them to positive. The results are decent and are fine and acceptable for most domestic users.

I never knew they had such a contraption.. slides always had better color reproduction than photographs for some reason..

Once there is dust and lint inside, you can't get rid of it. Other than that, it's ok.
Hi! Thanks for your comment. Well, you can try to use those cans of condensed air spray. I would recommend wearing white cotton gloves for handling negatives and slides to avoid damage. They also double for my coin collection as well.
I lost the license code which was on the CD container. Someone can help me?

Yes, soon, Sorry was away working in the /Middle East for a year. Basically the negatives work in a similar fashion as for the slides. I will do a separate video for those shortly

Hello Heather! My apologies, I had not been very active recently. Yes there is a different set up for the slides and the negatives. I will do another video just for negatives. Thanks for reminding me. I teach full time and sometimes get overwhelmed with work. Again my thanks. I will note down the negatives video to produce.

Hi, Does this scanner take all types of slides? There where Kodak cardboard slides, Agfa plastic slides and thicker plastic slides (not sure who made these) I have all three

Yes, in fact I used all three types. Some of the harder AGFA types has to actually be unclipped from their plastic retainer s first though.
Anyone familair with this item using on a mac? I can't install the software due to the newest OSX 11.7.3 that's on my mac nowadays.
Geez, sorry to hear that. You'd need to ask a specialist with that. Perhaps you can borrow a friends Laptop or get an old rebuild for the job? It might be worth it if you have some important memories to copy over?
I bought the Silvercrest scanner some time ago and have only got round to opening the box now. How do you load the software if you don't have a CD drive? Most new laptops don't have a CD drive. Before I throw the scanner away, I thought I'd ask you. Hope you can help!
You can get a plug is CD reader. It will hook into a laptop using a USB connector let me see if I can find one for you. Here is one. They generally run anywhere from $25 - 50.

Does anybody have the file for the drivers/software to run this scanner? I bought this scanner from a flea market and unfortunately it came without the CD with the software. Thanks
