In my town the McDonald's management is sneaky in advertising the Value meal. They even charge an "upside fee" for the meal drink😂 secondly they are asking "would you like to round up the change" for donation to XYZ Charity. SMH 😂
The last McDonald’s in downtown Pittsburgh just closed recently. The decided not to renew the lease. That is three in total since the pandemic. These restaurants I think are just not willing to pay $15-22 an hour. Watch out for more automation in the future.
I think you’re right. I think McDonald’s knows what’s up. And they know more than we do. And a lot of companies have left San Francisco so what does that mean? Even alot of tech companies left. It’s scary. I used to go to SF in the 70’s and it was sooooo different and never would I have thoight this day would come. My dad is 90’s and when I told him what was going on in SF he just can’t comprehend it. He says he can’t even imagine it.
I had to look up the Front St. location. I didn't know there was a McDonald's there. I know the Market St. and the Sutter St.(?) stores, they'll be fine bc of the tourists. If I lived in SF, I would love to live in the Financial District! Close to the Ferry Bldg., Chinatown, North Beach. If only the rents would drop.
Can’t wait to witness most every McDonalds in California either go 85 percent automated or out of business in April when greasy Gavin’s minimum wage goes to 20 bucks a hour. Come on down get your 20 dollar Big Mac
The city isn't coming back anytime soon. The cost of living is still too expensive for any industry other than tech to come in here even though the quality of life keeps going down.
It's not necessarily that McDonald's corporation shut down the restaurant. Most of these fast foods are franchises and are owned and operated by ordinary people who invested their money in the business. They pay McDonald's the corporation a franchise fee. The family that operated that McDonald's probably could not get enough customers to pay what it costs to stay in business. The city government now or in the future needs to do whatever it takes to make people want to come downtown. No people. No business. Simple.
Mc Donalds has to change with the times. SF has to change with the times. Financial Districts are almost a thing of the past. Or they they won't be as big. SF will adjust just like other cities.
I hope your right, SF is not the only city suffering in CA, Downtown San Diego has lots of closed business, Downtown Sacramento too, same thing in Downtown San Jose, Oakland is death. California needs to repeal prop 47, catch and release and be more business friendly if they don't want the state to turn into hawaii (lots of tourists, but not any other industries)
@danielr3661 good point. Hawaii at least doesn't have the homeless squalor. The squalor keeps restaurants closed, hotels empty and tourists elsewhere.
You are right about McDonalds - I don’t know any locals who eat there - I do like their unsweetened ice tea so will go through a drive through to get one but I don’t think I have eaten the food at McDonalds in at least 20 years - there are so many better options. But I think it would be interesting if you went out to the neighborhoods because to use your words, the neighborhoods are poppin! The business streets out in the neighborhoods don’t appear to have slowed down - it is downtown that is dead.
Also because more and more people are ordering online the advantage that Mcdonalds has had for decades which is being on every street corner and prime locations disappears because other burger joints on a web site have the same amount of real estate as everyone else and when the customers are stationary at their house then having convenient locations doesn't matter anymore , everyone is on an even playing field. As a matter of fact , in the future having a huge amount of brick and mortar stores will go from being an advantage to being a liability.
I've been going to that area regularly for years. I used to eat at that McD's once a week until they raised their prices. I decided I could get a better burger at the Melt, or a breakfast sandwich at Peet's, both less than a block away. The Melt, which stayed open during the Pandemic, and still seemed to be doing good business, closed suddenly earlier this year. It's been replaced by a pop-up with limited hours. I was in there last week and it was doing well. There were no McD's in San Francisco until the late 70's, when the city finally let them in. That Front Street building was formerly a Women's Bank which was damaged in the Loma Prieta earthquake. After that, McD's moved from a small location in Embarcadero Center to the larger Front St. building. San Francisco has a long history of revitalizing itself and it will do so again. I'm not worried.
Sad...look at the shady government in cali...close things down, move all the middle-class out, open up years later with a different plan. Own nothing be happy.
ive followed you for a while now moved from SF at the start of the pandemic, I agree with you J I love the city but i hope the city government fails because tourism can't always be the answer. Someone else said for mcdonalds prices you can just go somewhere else better. I dont know why CA or the government pick on certain industries why not raise min wage for all industries prices are going to go up regardless. $4 for an iced coffee vs starbucks $4 for the same iced coffee ill go to starbucks or peets.
Well, McDonalds have already closed a number of McDonalds locations downtown over the past 10 years. That place with the blacked out "Donut World" on 7th and Market. That was a McDonalds. That lot on the north east corner of Van Ness and Golden Gate, that was a McDonalds. 3rd and Brannon, that was a McDonalds. A bunch more that closed too. But now that ihis fukin McDonalds closed, somehow it's a big deal. Don't fall for all of this doom and gloom bullshit. They want you to feel discouraged. It's your world. If other people are afraid and can't figure out how to make it, that's on them.
Yo, Jermaine. Various McDonald's have closed in the city on occasion years ago, so I'm not too surprised. One used to be right next to Burger King downtown and another was near a cable car stop in Chinatown. I've eaten at both places in my childhood. Fun times. Now I'm tempted to want their french fries again because those often got me hooked besides the Kids' Meal toys that I often bugged my parents to buy.
I think rents and home prices will have to come way down from were they are now and then they may rebound a little but the days of SF being a super expensive city to live in may be over which may not be a bad thing.
SF is weak. High crime rate, high homeless rate, high rent, low accountability. Don’t blame the pandemic. Everyone is leaving because of those things stated above. Oh on top of that, government increased the taxes for business to operate in SF! And the crimes committed are now “low priority”. Don’t get it twisted. I live/work in the SF Area. This place is doomed
California big cities are shitholes right now, even Downtown San Diego and Downtown Sacramento are full of closed business, i wonder if people will realize they need to change their voting habits....
I don't know much about SF but McDonald's is amazing on real estate choices. They were buying all over NY in the 80s when many areas were cheap. 2008 crash they renewed their leases at a discount or bought the buildings. Yes take a loss for a few years then make it up over the next 20. Why renew a lease that's probably overvalued in today's market . Maybe in 8 years they can buy it off the bag holder landlord for pennies on the dollar LOL ooh I see a few other comments with good points too. If a lot of people buy via delivery these days there is no need for so many McDonald's stores.
Oh my gosh I have said all along what you just said. I told my family I think it’s going to be like Detroit . Is rent still expensive even though there is nobody to rent? That’s what I keep wondering. Would they keep the rents up if there is nobody to rent?
They need it be high to pay the taxes that the politicians are using to line their own pockets because the people voted for that shit. It’s literally their own fault.
To me the only nice thing in SF is the Golden gate bridge anymore and I was in SF all the time and I never go there anymore it's just not what it was 😢😢
Love how dumbasses will say this is cuz of crime or homelessness lol But yeah my buddy works in property management in the city and says that commercial spaces are over 70% vacant for his company. Just one of the unintended results of remote work . All of my friends who had remote jobs left to cheaper economies or with their parents to save up for a home. That’s why the bar scene is ass now. Most 20 something -30 year olds dipped. Another factor is because of the lack of housing here, most service workers commute from the east bay. But the eastbay has been raising their pay, so lots of them are no longer willing to commute out here; so hard to find staff here. Lots of other factors… I could go on lol
Thank you Jermaine you are great
McDonalds burgers shrunk the meals have less fries and the drinks are smaller . In frisco . The Big Mac should be called lil Mac lol .
The drinks cost 1 dollar.. any size..
In my town the McDonald's management is sneaky in advertising the Value meal. They even charge an "upside fee" for the meal drink😂 secondly they are asking "would you like to round up the change" for donation to XYZ Charity. SMH 😂
Lets face it....nothing lasts forever!
Rent haven’t fallen to meet the lack of demand.

I don't blame the investors because some of the employees in Fast Food are Arrogant and ungrateful to even have a job.

That's because minimum wage is 20 an hour. They cant afford that. Every one wanted a living wage and this is what you get.
… I am moving in the area to work as a CO and looking for a place to rent and omg. The prices are insane…
Is Noah’s Bagels still around?
Just barely

There's no lease or building problems. The fact of the matter is that SF is a city in decline, and it's not vibrant.
if the macdonalds on market closes, its the end of times

Sadly, SF is not going to be revitalized for another 10 -15 years. I never thought SF would reach this level of despair.😶

The lobbies in McDonald's in Vegas are pretty dead all over town ever since the pandemic even though they do a good drive thru business.

I don't think SF will be the new Detroit but maybe the new Baltimore, death downtown with thriving suburbs...
Is there only offices around there??
