i remember playing GTA: SA when I was like 9 and I thought that the "drugs" that they constantly talked about was "frogs."

I do think some frogs/toads have either poisons that produce drug like effects or bodily fluids that can be used for drug usage, so 9 year old you was onto something
When I was 10 I used to think that Big Smoke was CJ's uncle, mostly because in the first mission's cutscene Carl says "It's me, Carl, chill! chill!" to Big Smoke and since I'm Brazilian the "chill" word pronunciation almost matches the Portuguese word for Uncle (wich the Portuguese translation to Uncle is "Tio"). So for like 3 whole years (until I actually learned to speak English) I thought that Grove Street Families were like an actual family, as if everyone in the gang were CJ's relatives.

I think _every_ child who played this acted significantly differently when their parents came in. Even when I was 15 and they were cool with it, I still played GTA V a little more conservatively whenever my parents walked in just on instinct XD
I think I still played San Andreas normally though I remember as a kid my dad would tell me “I don’t like when you play this game” but he didn’t explain why and it made me feel bad so I stopped playing it as much when they were around the living room
The parts where you spawned in the strip club, the Torture scene and trevor doing weird shit when you switch to him were the scenes where I was scared that my mom would suddenly enter the room
I still ran over grandma's in front of my parents
I mean, my dad at least knows I play gachas and did killing games in the Sims so if I was allowed to play GTA I'd still probably be running over people if he came in.
If my mum came in though? I'd just turn off the TV entirely. I still do that with The Sims if I'm not building houses because I'm embarrassed about it even though I'm 13 now.

When I was 13-14, playing this game I also watched those videos with the X-files music about the creepy stuff in GTA, even if they were just edited. Because of this connection of music and content, X-files theme still creeps me out. I'm 26.
San Andreas was creepy and still is in some places. Its so open and there are remote parts of the map. The Back O Beyond and Bone County just have creepy locations.
Especially as a kid even younger than you said, playing this game there was a mystifying thing about San Andreas.
When I had the game as a kid my family and I had never owned a console before. We didn't even know what a memory card was. I couldn't progess beyond what I could play in one sitting. It gave the new areas of the game such a mysterious and uncharted vibe. I remember trying to explore them in the planes you could steal at the airport and being shot down or crashing in the country side then having a wanted level and being wasted by police.
It was really fantastic to experience as a kid, and its something I can't relive with all I know now. I think that's where the urban legends and rumors started.
The fact so many have childhood memories of playing GTA, and especially without their parents knowing how violent it is, is kind of a testament to how useless ESRB ratings are
Same for me, especially since I'm 15 and actively play Fallout New Vegas, and my 8 year old brothers love watching me play it.

I had the "UFO" bug before. It's when a plane's model doesn't load, but the lights are still there. Someone relay that information to Joel.
I liked jumping on the train and just letting the train ride me around the map and it was very calming in the game to do that 😊
Future Deathgun6 my favorite thing was stealing the train and driving it so fast that you could slide through the barriers that seperate the different parts of the map

Part of San Andreas’s magic is that it was around when the Internet wasn’t quite as refined as it is now with people having data on everything. lots of urban legends in games back then could be passed around and it would work but nowadays people don’t fall for it
Hope to see more of these this probably the funniest stream Joel has done this year.
I have like, the vaguest memory of my dad playing some of the early game, but like... several different times. Once with my uncle, dad and I. My uncle needed my dad to translate what he needed to do while i was there for support, i guess? I think i couldn't have been older than a toddler. I don't remember them playing other missions, so i feel like they banned me for being a boo boo snot child

Helicopters can sometimes spawn under the road and you can only see their lights, this happened to me as well. Mystery solved?

The UFO thing he sore was probably a police helicopter with the searchlight on it spawns sometimes in the city's but mainly in the riots

i remember that i tried to be a police in san andreas, everytime the police was following a car i would follow them and shot the guys that where trying to escape from the police, or block the way

I remember playing this game on PC and I found a glitch or whatever at Ryder's house there was a guy with pink boxers and he was indestructible. I shot him, nothing, I beat the shit out of him, still nothing and he stood there at the corner in Ryder's house

I remember a gta sa video and it had one of those gta 5 stunt towers in and it was in multiplayer. In video people on top of the stunt tower had pink limos and trucks and it pimp style tiers. I always wanted to find the video.
Btw big smoke was in cjs house cuz he was forced to kill him by crash, the two pigs that arrest cj at the start. He still had heart tho n decided not to. Same reason for his long ass order at cluckin bell.

The giant orb, pretty sure it was a glitch from the sun rendering and stuff. Saw it like twice when playing but on the mobile version so I'm not sure if thats the one lol

When I was a kid playing GTA, I saw a video for the "San Andreas Ghost Car." A beat up, driverless car would appear in the woods at a certain time. I actually thought it was real and furthered my belief when I went to that spot and low and behold, a beat up car rolled down the hill. I believed the ghost car for a long while after that. I know now it was just a coincidence, but what caused it? 🤔

Speaking of weird things you swore you saw in this game but turned out it never happened to anyone else, was there an actual heart attack in the game?
I am not sure if it is real anymore or if it was some kind of fever dream but I recall as a kid playing on the original Xbox I was eating dinner and left the game running not paused because CJ was in his home when I suddenly hear "Good bye Grove Street!" and my health started draining slowly and Cj was making pain noises.
But it stopped because in the panic of it I grabbed the controller and ran around and accidentally went through the door and when I went through the door my health wasn't being drained anymore but I did keep the damage.
before I started looking it up online I would have told you with 100% certainty that there were heart attacks in the game but now I have no idea what I saw or if I saw it at all, all I know is I have this weird memory.
Well when cj is very fat the game tells you 5hst there is a risk of that so that might have happend then
