  • Here are few of the fabrics difficult for beginners to work with.
    1. LYCRA: Lycra is an extremely stretchy fabric and it's not an hidden fact that stretchy fabrics can be difficult to handle both during cutting and sewing stages. There are some machines that wouldn't even sew lycra fabric if a special type of measure is not applied. So it's best beginners stay away from lycra until they are good enough to handle such fabric type.
    2. VELVET: Aside the fact that Velvet is another very stretchy fabric, it has other characteristics such as NAP which is the direction which the fibers lie. A garment can look mismatched if the pieces of the garment are cut in different direction of which could be a confusion for a beginner.
    3. BROCADE: Unlike the other fabrics mentioned above, Brocade isn't a stretchy fabric but because it frays a lot and shrinks fast when pressed, it'll definitely be a challenge for a beginner to handle.
4&5. ORGANZA AND ORGANDY: and Organdy are example of sheer fabric, meaning they share almost the same characteristics. They mostly have slippery nature which makes them not stable while cutting and that can be a very frustrating one for a beginner to deal with. Also sewing sheer fabric requires high level of care and attention.
    6. LIQUID ORGANZA: Liquid organza is a silk blend heavy organza fabric. It's glossy, highly slippery in nature and it frays a lot. Even as an advanced dressmaker, you must be extremely careful when handling liquid organza as it can get damaged easily if mishandled.
    7. ASO-OKE: Aso oke is an intricately woven fabric popularly worn in western part of Nigerian for special events.. Aso oke is neither stretchy or slippery but just as brocade, it frays very easily that if you're careful all the yarns would have dissapeared before you start sewing.
It requires high level of attention to work with.
    8. BEADED LACE: Lace fabrics generally can be difficult for a beginner to handle but when it's beaded, it becomes even more difficult to work with because you'll need to have some of the beads removed before you can sew and if care is not taken, the fabric could be damaged in the process.
