I want a Johnny & Rob let's play series. I don't care much for let's players on youtube, but you guys are already fun to listen and watch so that sounds like a really great idea.
HappyConsoleGamer That is what I expect and want from you guys. That way the personal experience and knowledge of the game will reflect in the let's play. Too many let's players do it blind or don't offer any tips or... what I'm trying to say is there is no value to be found in most let's plays.
ripoutyourprejudice very cool! the last thing I would want is for this to be a stereotypical "lets play" channel, maybe we would do them during the week every once in a while :)
Please do a Let's Play series! Of all the reviewer-duos on UA-cam, I love watching you two do videos together the most. You guys have the very "real" element that doesn't feel manufactured like other folks; your long-lasting friendship that was founded on video games and has stood the test of time really makes your channel special. Your stories really take me back to the early 90s and the nostalgia is genuine. Keep it up, you guys are awesome!
5:53 rofl that's a cool guy right there. I used to sneak into the principal's office when I was in middle school, and look at files in her office. I didn't do anything bad, one time I saw a draft for our examination papers submitted for her review, but I didn't look at it because I didn't want to cheat the exams.
Oh man. I love your stories. Both of you are the most awesome collectors I've ever seen. You value the memories more than the tangibility of the games(price, condition,etc.). I despise some collectors who are too hardcore and forgot the joy of collecting awesome trinkets and such stuff.
Re-watching some of the older videos, and I forgot how hilarious Rob's impressions were in this, such a great episode as a whole! Can't wait for the reviews you guys mentioned someday doing in this video :)
You guys just brighten my day! You guys really just talk about what you love and its really refreshing! You guys are such a positive influence. Stay awesome guys!
I actually have kind of a fun memory with Willow. I was in the kitchen when my sister came in and I said "which finger holds the power to control the universe?" But then my hand got squashed in the fork box, so I screamed, and then my sister said "Well, not that finger"!
Your collection really hit my nostalgia button. The NES Final Fantasy was the first RPG for me that was enjoyable enough to beat more than once. Legendary games guys.
Nice! I had the oppurtunity to purchase about 35 LNIB boxed NES games from Babbages back in like 1998, but my broke ass teenage self couldn't afford more than four of them at their price of $14.99 for most of them. I remember seeing Mega Man 1-6 all lined up in their excellent condition boxes for less than $20 each. Those were the days.
So many memories with the NES and the best part is that you can only pick up your favourites and still have an amazing collection. Final Fantasy was so good!
The covers of the Ninja Gaiden games were always so damn cool looking to me as a kid, was hard to not wanna pick it up and play the hell out of them. Also man....the new Strider....holy hell is that amazing 0__0
All of those Dragon Warrior games - nice! The boxed Bionic Commando brings back some great memories. It was the first game that I ever finished. Great vid guys!
I played chip n dale every day when i was like 4 and 5 years old and i honestly forgot about it over the years and recently on my xbox one browsing games i seen Disney afternoon collection that has a few games and checked the screen shots to see what games are on the collection and seen the pic of game play it instantly brought back all these memories as a child its crazy that things can be deep in your mind and a picture or sound can bring them back from decades before i bought it of course and love it
No thanks guys. Leave the Let's Plays to fools like PewdiePie and those others, I enjoy your videos for getting memories from just listen to your memories. Gotta admit, I never have been much into the NES, only had three games for it before trading it in for a SNES, but those videos are still great stuff for me. Keep it up! Oh and I want this LaserDisc episode asap!
shadoom Think realistic, dude. How many Let's Players does UA-cam have already? Do we really need ANOTHER of this sort? They asked, I gave my opinion on that.
***** I for one think it's a good idea because Johnny and Rob will tell stories and be funny playing, not screaming like 5 year old ala Pewdie Pie, and it's not like they would be doing only "let's plays," there would be few, which would make them better than "let's play" overkill. That's my 2 cents.
PewdiePie is really wack, there are a lot of Let's players out there commentary or not that it can be over whelming. But i would like to see them do a let's play, it might work I want to see them do let's plays of a variety of games like maybe some from PS2 to Gamecube, Xbox 360 and ect.
thank you for showing trojan I have been trying to figure out this nostalgic game from when I was a kid that I borrowed from a friend and played so much and I have not been able to figure out the name for literally 15 years and you have made me remember. Thanks guys u have made my day ordering the game online right this minute
I know the feeling, Rob! Finishing a game without dying and thinking "yeah this will never happen again." You did that with Kid Icarus; my game was Gun.Smoke. Finished the game without dying once (did lose some horses though) and the amazing part is that back then I didn't know you could press A and B together to shoot straight!!!
Its 6AM, and I was sitting her on YT wanting a good long video about anything nintendo related. checked my subscriptions, and this was there. Perfect timing.
batman on nes so awesome, I just traveled back in time listening to u guys.... great music, amazing graphics, challenging levels, gears and weapons, nice cut scenes and kick ass bosses especially the joker. it deserved a full review.
I'm a Master System guy, who went round to my friends house and played nes/snes and borrowed friends commodore's and spectrums (live in UK, Herefordshire) . The games were good I think because they either made you think, blew sht up or were jst fun fun fun ... great days. Would totally love to 'come round yr house' and play all those games, and the ones behind you, right through non-stop, all day!!
I'm afraid that is frowned upon. I went to Johnny's house demanding that he let me in to play video games. He politely asked me who I was. I was infuriated that he didn't know my name. I began to throw rocks at his house and spit on his car. I can't believe that he called the cops on me. What a jerk! He was far from being a "Happy Console Gamer" on that occasion!
Haha.. the story about Neil or "ShhNeil"? was funny. ;) He was a Ninja who snuck into people's backyards and used his ninjitsu skills to reorganize they lawn furniture and trim their shrubs..LOL too funny to picture that in your head. ... .... ... I was more stories about our friend Neil. :P
Touching more on their Batman segment and how Johnny was so blown away by the animation. People, more so kids, now days, don't understand how good they have it when it comes to video games. Back then, these NES games blew us away and when the Super Nintendo and later Genesis games came out, it was like a religious experience seeing how some of these game looked, visually. I can still put in some Super Nintendo games and it takes me right back to when I first saw them and I still think the games look amazing, to this day! With all of the huge processors, RAM, GPUs, etc... that are available now days, younger kids will just never appreciate what it was like to grow up in the golden age of video games and see all of these visual advancements happen right before us.
The thing about Hydlide is that it was basically the pioneer for the entire action RPG genre that would evolve into games like Zelda and Ys a few years later. The problem was that it was an early 80s game that was revolutionary in its time being ported to the NES in the late 80s when the games that it had inspired had already released.
Oh wow! I had no idea that the original Goonies even had a boxed release. I've only seen it on the play choice cabinets back in the day. Also holy butts your Willow impressions are AWESOME!
Great video! Your right, the nes box art was and still is fantastic! Enjoyed hearing your memories on the games! Thinking I should do a NES collection video soon :) thanks for sharing.
"If you don't know the frustration&exhilaration of Ninja Gaiden, you're watching the wrong channel!" Right on! haha That was sweet.Always love your enthusiasm,it keeps me coming back :) Btw,i couldn't help but notice...no Metroid. You guys bring back the stories or mention it from time to time, and you do not have the boxed game.I'm perplexed.Or did you talk about it before...i forget.
I want to see that Willow review! I love that you guys went "w-iiii-l-l-l-loooowwwww" right when you saw it. XD My parents do that a lot. That movie was so nostalgic for me. Oh, and of course nice collection. I would love to have Dragon Warrior 1-4 boxed in my collection.
Nice to see boxed NES games! Usually when I see videos of NES collections its the carts only. Personally, as a game collector myself, I can't understand how a collector could be satisfied with a collecton of unboxed games!
That's a very nice collection of boxed NES games you have featured in this video, and the only games that I have in my NES collection that still come in their original boxes are "Mega Man 2" and "DuckTales 2". :)
I so agree, Sunsoft's Batman nailed Gotham via NES graphics. The way the shadows are cast diagonally on those brick pillars, and just all the ways they expertly used lighting totally sells the noir atmosphere. And as a sprite, Batman, himself, looks fantastic. I've always loved the way they arranged the colors on his costume to make his shape distinguishable, as well as using just enough details to make him appear as the Batman we know, but not cluttered looking at all, not drowned in too much detail. One of the more solid looking games on the NES, for sure. I think a lot of people have found out about it now considering videos like this, and the James and Mike Mondays episode, but it definitely deserves more recognition as one of the better, or best, on the system. Also, I know this is an older video, but Sh'Neal is such a fucking legend. He's out there somewhere, rearranging patio furniture and decorating lawn gnomes with Hawaiian apparel, to this day.

I only buy all my games complete with box. I know that not everybody like to do this since everything its more hard to get and way more expensive, but if is not in original box, really its not for me. (personal opinion) ...Thanks for your show, its been nine years watching your shows.
A friend of mine visited family in the u.s. He came home with smb3 maybe a year before we got it in Norway. We played it on a pal nes, without sound & black/white Epic Love your channel:)

inamoratasamazing Though never got the box for the first legend of zelda. Found a working cart for it at a local used game store back in 2006 though. Man I played the hell out of that game. Too bad Zelda games these days want to hold your hand so much, it felt great to be lost and progressing through the game by exploring instead of being babied the whole way through like I couldn't puzzle solve...
Faxanadu is great! it's a minor classic in my book. I had this game as a kid so I'm very nostalgic towards it. But I also think it's a fun experience. man i remember Faxanadu it was one of my favs for the nes i played it a ton, i remember when i finally got the best armor in the game I thought it was so cool.
Robman and Johnny should definetley do a lets play together but only of old games and them talking meanwhile of memories and stories. I dont want the typical Lets play video but Johnnys special take on it just like this whole channel i would LOVE that.
You guys should definitely do some lets plays of old games. Also I wanted to add that you should do another video like this one but talking about all ur super NES games . Really enjoyed the video!
Hahaha, I always used to farm all the health pellets in Bionic Commando in the first level as well XD helped me immensely in the long run, and because of that, I was able to beat the game finally :3
If you ever did a lets play it would blow other channels out of the water because unlike the lame dumps I really think you love playing games and are genuine and won't dub back over the recording. Love the collection.
I want a Johnny & Rob let's play series. I don't care much for let's players on youtube, but you guys are already fun to listen and watch so that sounds like a really great idea.

***** I agree. So long as the quality of their normal content doesn't suffer, though, I'd be really happy with extra LP stuff on top.

All of those Dragon Warrior games - nice! The boxed Bionic Commando brings back some great memories. It was the first game that I ever finished. Great vid guys!
Bionic Commando was my jam back in the day. Loved that game!
"Never in any other game"

They're psycho ninja friend sounds... AWSOME!!! I would have died from laughter at his antics.
Rob looked so happy back then.
I hope he gets better soon. 🙏
I love the thumbnail screenshot haha also the ending nonsense. Thank you for the upload.
great job guy one of the few channels ill happily watch for 30 mins straight!

I love waking up on a Sunday morning and seeing a new video from you. If I could I would give you a million thumbs up.
You should do an episode on what games you played when you were sick lol i played alot of games when i was sick mainly handheld.
Uniracers
They did do one about skipping school, which could also apply to being sick lol
The use of music on this video is fantastic 👍

I was surprised when I got older and realized how few people had played crystalis on the nes. Loved that game. Willow never got much respect either.
Tmnt was a great game... Everyone always slates that game!! one of the first games I ever played on the nes, awesome video dude nice collection!
Oh wow! I had no idea that the original Goonies even had a boxed release. I've only seen it on the play choice cabinets back in the day.

I love this episode!!! Absolutely amazing. Make more reviews like this!
startropics was soooo gooooodddddd.
Thats one of the games im still missing in my collection.
great NES games, all nostalgic,i can't choose who's better, but all of it is greatest
Batman for NES is one of my favorite games ever! I don't have the box, but I have the game and the book. EPIC GAME! GREAT VIDEO!
That TMNT music in the background brings back memories of supreme frustration.
awesome guys! Almost nobody talks about crystalis, but I played it almost by accident last year and it's really really good!
It's funny how many memories can be invoked around console games........sigh sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock and re-live them again lol
Brings back good memories of gaming.
I did paused the video, and i did searched the Tombs & Treasures review.
Very nice add-in for this video.
Crystalis was my all-time favorite game on the NES. Good times.
Nice to see boxed NES games! Usually when I see videos of NES collections its the carts only. Personally, as a game collector myself, I can't understand how a collector could be satisfied with a collecton of unboxed games!
I gotta say even as a late 90s kid i like the NES box art the best
Chip 'n Dale was an awesome game. I haven't thought about in a few years.
It’s so funny to rewatch these old episodes and realize that there was a lot of swearing back then 😂
That Strider is very under rated. love it.
That's a very nice collection of boxed NES games you have featured in this video, and the only games that I have in my NES collection that still come in their original boxes are "Mega Man 2" and "DuckTales 2". :)
I so agree, Sunsoft's Batman nailed Gotham via NES graphics. Another great episode. I like when u guys talk about your old memories with video games, so some Let's plays would be awesome.
This episode even nearly made me start to expand my collection to the NES :) (never got one and now it can get petty expensive - I'd only go for CIB games as for my other collections)
I remember back in 1991 when I got my first NES with super mario bros 3. I was exited as fuck.
Should make more of these longer episodes like this with Johnny and Rob just talking about games and stuff.. like the Game Chat episodes :)
I only buy all my games complete with box. I know that not everybody like to do this since everything its more hard to get and way more expensive, but if is not in original box, really its not for me. (personal opinion) ...Thanks for your show, its been nine years watching your shows.
You've got a great little collection of boxed games. I've played most of them.
A friend of mine visited family in the u.s.
He came home with smb3 maybe a year before we got it in Norway.
We played it on a pal nes, without sound & black/white
Epic
Love your channel:)
Crystalis, the first RPG I ever played before I even knew what the genre was. Pre-RPG addict years.
When I was a kid, I would cut up my boxes and hang them on my wall as a kind of mini-poster.
I regret nothing!
Also, just recently picked up Crystalis and can't stop playing it. It's so good!
When I saw that Ninja and before you said the name, nor have I even played the original NES games of the series, I was already nodding my head in approval, I too eve though as a late 90s to 00s gamer, know of the frustrating fun of Ninja Gaiden...
Man. I was born in 1988, first game I beat was Metroid, second Bionic Commando, third Crystalis. This video caused so much nostalgia. Still have the old carts, not the boxes though sadly...
inamoratasamazing Though never got the box for the first legend of zelda. Found a working cart for it at a local used game store back in 2006 though. Man I played the hell out of that game. Too bad Zelda games these days want to hold your hand so much, it felt great to be lost and progressing through the game by exploring instead of being babied the whole way through like I couldn't puzzle solve...
Johnny and Rob never disappoint. ;) great vid as always.
Faxanadu was a wicked game. picked it up a couple years ago made it about 3/4 through it.
probably my favourite nes game
6:15 I wish there was a video showing that news article or even a "HE IS HERE!" video featuring Shneil.
That was a great Billy Barty impression 😄
It's nice to hear the Crystalis music at 10:00!
Faxanadu is great! it's a minor classic in my book. I had this game as a kid so I'm very nostalgic towards it. But I also think it's a fun experience.
The atmosphere in particular (with the somber, slightly alienating color palette and the music that at times is epic, and at other times eerie and menacing) makes for a very unique action RPG. Getting new weapons and armor (which you would see equiped on your sprite) is so satisfying and badass.
I reccomend it, give it a chance and learn how to manage the different keys and items, and it will become a very rewarding experience.
man i remember Faxanadu it was one of my favs for the nes i played it a ton, i remember when i finally got the best armor in the game I thought it was so cool.

You guys should definitely do some lets plays of old games. Also I wanted to add that you should do another video like this one but talking about all ur super NES games . Really enjoyed the video!
In the Minish Cap you could get an ocarina that worked like the flute and even had the classic jingle.
Awww man bionic commando was a 10/10 for me epic game completely loved it and I knew exactly what you meant about the pellet farming!!!
Makes me want to break out my old NES. Thanks for the inspiration!
Yes a Laserdisc episode please! Children of the Corn was the first movie I ever saw on Laserdisc. Scared the shit out of me.
Wow! You have a really nice collection of boxed NES games.
Heh heh, I love that the hero in Hylide is called 'Jim'. I'll love to see let's plays!
I LOVE Chip & Dales and TMNT for NES! Meaning to snag them soon boxed.
That Trojan game , I played that long time ago , forgot all about it until seeing it here.
I know this video is about NES-games but I have to say: in every video my eyes are locked to that MUSHA-box, such a great game!
The flute (recorder) is in Zelda II, but it doesnt warp you.
I have the same T-shirt Rob was wearing in this video. I got Rygar for my birthday one year
Save On was a really good place to rent NES games back in the day.
23:25 For those who don't know, it was also in Ocarina of Time.
+electricmastro That would be an ocarina, not a flute.
I love your way of presenting. thank you
Rygar!!!! My fav. back in the day. . .never got around beating it sadly.
Yes to some let's play, cos you guys will make me laugh the whole way through it.
