- We continue the fifth series of the CPSA's How to Hit videos, sponsored by Browning. In this series CPSA Senior Coach Simon Arbuckle will be covering the Trap disciplines of Down-the-Line (DTL), Automatic Ball Trap (ABT), and Olympic Trap (OT).
In this episode, Simon tells us how to hit DTL targets from each of the five pegs, focusing on gun hold point, visual pick-up point, break point, and foot position.

I use 1/4 and 1/2 all day long but can only shoot steel shot but it works fine. Last Saturday i got 89 of 100
Ps dtl is a slow target that you can get on so quickly with a few inches of muzzle movement and get on target so quick!
Ly. Hope this helps. Also CPSA only train method which will never allow you to shoot maintained lead for other disciplines such as Olympic skeet
I think swing through is the method for single trap.

3/4 and full
IC & M or M & IM. The target speed is not that fast.

Interesting every shot he takes clay is dripping like he's trying to aim using the bead on barrels and not eye
Lee P, not quite sure what you mean by the clay is dripping but I can assure you that there was no aiming. The weather on the day of filming was cold and extremely windy making the targets very erratic to say the least. There was no time to hang about and try to make sure, just the classic trap shooting "see it, shoot it".

Which chokes do I need for dtl
Most people use 3/4 (Improved Modified) and Full. But you could comfortably use 1/2 (Modified) and 3/4 (Improved Modified) from common mark (15m).
1/2 and 3/4 will be fine no need to over choke for trap 👍
You are not a particularly good shot are you? Why are you waiting until the target is dropping until you shoot? Take it on the upwards flight. Happy to give you some proper coaching.
